Teachers are arguably the most important members of our society. We are that critical point, that makes a child ready for his/her future endeavors. It is undebatable, that teachers possess transformative powers through evidence of how they positively influence children's lives daily. The value and impact of a teacher cannot be ignored. ANDREW, ST THOMAS AND PORTLAND TIP FRIENDLY SOCIETY When employees are allowed to represent their company at conferences or events, they are developing themselves and providing the organization more exposure. Employees can help acquire new customers and retain existing ones when they are viewed as trustworthy leaders. Teachers are the fore runner of the education system. How you represent your brand will reflect not only you but your institution, your students and the society by large. Hence, as an educator you want to own and hone your brand so that you will attract others to the profession, to your institution and as one who is sought after. Is my image in tune with my profession? Am I as a Brand reflecting my school's true image? What will be my legacy brand years to come? It is often said that clothes and manners do not make the man, but they greatly improve his appearance when he is made. Whether this statement is real or imaginary, the most important fact is that your appearance and how you treat people, influence the opinions of everyone around you. As you grow as a professional, you are indeed building you "I" brand. But have you ever considered what will your brand be remembered for? It is important to reflect and ask yourself: As teachers, you are role models to your students and stakeholders in the community. As you develop and own your "I" brand, always be mindful that you have to protect your brand. You do this by how you dress, speak and interact with others, just to name a few. Ensure that you blossom into a brand that will stand the test of time and one that you will always be proud of.

Branding is an important feature of any business, product or service. As one plies his or her trade, talent or skills there is always the need to differentiate yourself from your counterparts. The teaching profession is no exception. As you demand your recognition, there is a greater proposition to enhance your brand, as an irreplaceable asset and to possess skills that cannot be substituted. Be mindful that if you don't have it, you can't copy it. Educators, go build your brand as one that inspires, changes lives and shape humans into their potential. Nuggets Suszeth Hemmings-Bryan HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND ADMINISTRATION MANAGER JTA CO-OPERATIVE CREDIT UNION St. Thomas Teachers Association Teachers Own Your Brand Symposium Denva Nesbeth PROPERTY MANAGER AKAM ASSOCIATES, USA Grace Kennedy and Lasco, are a few of the iconic brands we have in Jamaica. Apple, Samsung, Toyota, and Honda, these are some of the world's most iconic brands. What all these companies have in common is that their brands are well known and well respected by consumers. Branding is very important to any individual or organization that deals with the public. If the public does not trust the individual or organization, it's almost impossible for that entity to survive. That is why all these companies spend a lot of resources to make sure their brand/image remain positive in the public's eye. Just as branding/imaging is important to these iconic brands, it is equally if not more important to educators. Educators you not only instill trust and confidence in the public, but also in your students and parents. You are shaping young minds for the future. If the students do not have confidence in you, it will create a domino effect where you will find subpar students which will lead to subpar adults later on in life which is not good for society. While you encounter many challenges on a daily basis, your brand/image goes a long way to define who you are.

Branding is a term in marketing used to promote one's product or self by becoming known by a target market or just the wider society. For a teacher to brand oneself it means to present yourself in a way that you make a statement. One that you are remembered for and/or terms you are affiliated with when heard or thought of. Terms such as educator, kind, loving, helpful, nurturing, guardian or even disciplinarian. As teachers you should own your brand, make your mark and be known for what you love and do. Be bold and put your brand out there for the world to see. Your brand is needed by everyone.
