GREETING SENTENCE Everyday Greetings (Sapaan Sehari-hari) 1. Good Morning (Selamat Pagi) 'Good morning' is pronounced when we meet someone in the morning until noon. The phrase 'good morning' is answered with 'good morning' , and is usually followed by an expression of asking news (how are you today?). ('Good morning' diucapkan pada waktu kita bertemu dengan seseorang di pagi hari sampai menjelang tengah hari. Ungkapan 'good morning' dibalas dengan 'good morning' , dan biasanya dilanjutkan dengan ungkapan menanyakan kabar (how are you today?). 3 Example Conversetion: Made : "Good morning, Cici. " (Selamat pagi, Cici.) Cici : "Good morning, Made. " (Selamat pagi, Made.) Made : "How are you today?" (Bagaimana kabarmu hari ini?) Cici : "Fine, thank you. How about you?" (Baik, terima kasih. Bagaimana denganmu?) Made : "I am fine, too. Thank you. " (Aku juga baik-baik saja. Terima kasih.)


2. Good Day (Selamat Siang) 'Good day' is said when we meet someone at noon. The phrase 'good day' is replied with 'good day' . Then, the conversation continued with a chat about the activities carried out. ('Good day' diucapkan pada waktu kita bertemu dengan seseorang pada waktu tengah hari. Ungkapan 'good day' dibalas dengan 'good day' . Kemudian, percakapan dilanjutkan dengan obrolan tentang kegiatan yang dilakukan). 4 Example Conversetion: Aisyah : "Good day, Cici. " (Selamat siang, Cici.) Cici : "Good day, Aisyah. " (Selamat siang, Aisyah.) Aisyah : "Where do you want to go in this hot day?" (Kemana kamu ingin pergi di hari yang panas ini?) Cici : "Well, I want to go to the book store. " (Aku ingin pergi ke toko buku.) Aisyah : "What do you want to buy?" (Apa yang ingin kamu beli?) Cici : "I want to buy note books and pens. " (Aku ingin membeli beberapa buku catatan dan pulpen.)


3. Good Afternoon (Selamat Siang/Sore) 'Good afternoon' is pronounced when we meet someone at 13.00 until 18.00. The phrase 'good afternoon' was replied with 'good afternoon' . Then, continue the conversation with the desired topic. ('Good afternoon' diucapkan pada waktu kita bertemu dengan seseorang pada pukul 13.00 sampai pukul 18.00. Ungkapan 'good afternoon' dibalas dengan 'good afternoon' . Kemudian, dilanjutkan pembicaraan dengan topik yang diinginkan). 5 Example Conversetion: Aisyah : "Good afternoon, Joshua. " (Selamat sore, Joshua.) Joshua : "Good afternoon, Aisyah. " (Selamat sore, Aisyah.) Aisyah : "Do you want to go to Rahma's house?" (Apakah kamu ingin pergi ke rumahnya Rahma?) Joshua : "Yes, I do. I want to study with her. " (Ya, aku ingin belajar dengannya.) Aisyah : "May I join you?" (Bolehkah aku bergabing denganmu?) Joshua : "Sure. Let's go there together. " (Tentu saja. Mari pergi ke sana bersama-sama.)


4. Good Evening (Selamat Malam) 'Good evening' is said when we meet someone between 18.00 and 24.00. The phrase 'good evening' was replied with 'good evening' . Then, continued with light dialogues. ('Good evening' diucapkan pada waktu kita bertemu dengan seseorang antara pukul 18.00 sampai dengan pukul 24.00. Ungkapan 'good evening' dibalas dengan 'good evening' . Kemudian, dilanjutkan dengan dialog-dialog ringan). 6 Example Conversetion: Made : "Good evening, Joshua. " (Selamat malam, Joshua.) Joshua : "Good evening, Made. " (Selamat malam, Made.) Made : "It is a cold night, isn't it?" (Ini malam yang dingin, bukan?) Joshua : "Yes, you're right. That's why I bring a thick jacket. " (Ya, benar. Oleh karenaitu, aku memakai jaket yang tebal.)


5. Good Night (Selamat Malam, Selamat Berpisah) 'Good night' is pronounced at night. The phrase 'good night' was answered with 'good night' . Then, the conversation is usually continued with the phrase 'have a nice dream' . The phrase 'good night' is said when parting at night or when going to sleep. ('Good night' diucapkan pada malam hari. Ungkapan 'good night' dibalas dengan 'good night' . Kemudian, percakapan biasanya dilanjutkan dengan ungkapan 'have a nice dream' . Ungkapan 'good night' diucapkan pada saat berpisah pada malam hari atau ketika hendak tidur). 7 Example Conversetion: Mother : "Are you sleepy, Dear?" (Apakah kamu mengantu, Sayang?) Daughter : "Yes, Mom. " (Ya, Bu.) Mother : "Go to your bed and sleep. " (Pergilah ke kamarmu dan tidur.) Daughter : "Certainly, Mom. " (Baiklah, Bu.) Mother : "Good night, Dear. " (Selamat malam, Sayang?) Daughter : "Good night, Mom. " (Selamat malam, Bu.) Mother : "Have a nice dream. " (Semoga mimpi indah.) Daughter : "Thank you, Mom. " (Terima kasih, Bu.)


6. Goodbye (Selamat Tinggal) 'Goodbye' is said when you are going to part with someone, either in the morning, afternoon or evening. The phrase 'goodbye' is answered with 'goodbye' . . ('Goodbye' diucapkan pada waktu akan berpisah dengan seseorang, baik di pagi, siang, maupun malam hari . Ungkapan 'goodbye' dibalas dengan 'goodbye'). 8 Example Conversetion: Cici : "By the way, Ihave to go now, Aisyah. " (Ngomong-ngomong, aku harus pulang sekarang, Aisyah.) Aisyah : "It's OK, Cici. " (Tidak apa-apa, Cici.) Cici : "Goodbye, Aisyah. " (Selamat tinggal, Aisyah.) Aisyah : "Goodbye, Cici. " (Selamat tinggal, Cici.) Cici : "See you tomorrow. " (Sampai jumpa besok.) Aisyah :" See you. " (Sampai jumpa.)


7. How Are You (Bagaimana Kabarmu?) 'How are you' is a form of greeting used to ask how someone is doing. The phrase 'how are you?' followed by mention of the news from the interlocutor. If all is well, the expression used is 'I am fine' . Otherwise, the expressions used are 'I am not fine' , there is something wrong with me...... ' , and so on. ('How are you' merupakan bentuk salam yang digunakan untuk menanyakan kabar seseorang. Ungkapan 'how are you?' diikuti dengan penyebutan kabar dari kawan bicara. Jika baik-baik saja, ungkapan yang digunakan, yaitu 'I am fine' . Jika sebaliknya, ungkapan yang digunakan, yaitu 'I am not fine' , there is something wrong with my...... ' , dan lain sebagainya). 9 Example Conversetion: Joshua : "Is that you, Made?. " (Apakah itu kamu, Made?) Made : "Yes, it is me.Are you Joshua?" (Ya, benar. Apa kamu Joshua?) Joshua : "Yes, you're right. How are you, Made?" (Ya, kamu benar. Bagaimana kabarmu, Made?) Made : "I am fine. Thank you. How about you?" (Aku baik-baik saja. Terima kasih. Bagaimana kabarmu?) Joshua : "I am fine too. Thank you. " (Aku juga baik-baik saja. Terima kasih.)
