Director Positions

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

The Community Outreach Portfolio is responsible for creating and expanding events and
opportunities for Gustavson students to get involved in their community and address issues
of affordability and mental health. This year we are looking to expand and revamp the
portfolio and take on new large scale events and projects setting the groundwork for years to
come. Our work plays an essential role in creating opportunities to grow the community of
the CSS, the community of the Gustavson program and allow students to create a difference
in the world beyond Ring Road.

This year we will work as a team to create and bring in new events large scale events and
initiatives to the portfolio. As well as continue past legacy events and initiatives. As the
incoming Executive of Community Relations, I love to work with enthusiastic people towards
ambitious goals. My ideal candidate brings together compassion, innovation and hard work
and likes to work within a dynamic and growing team. If you should have any questions,
please do not hesitate to contact myself, Carl Haynes at [email protected] or the
current VP of Community Outreach, Ravien Sidhu at [email protected]

ENGAGEMENT

Do you want to work in the craziest portfolio the CSS offers and have a blast doing it? Well,
then you’ve come to the right place! The Engagement portfolio is responsible for all the fun
and wild events that the CSS puts on through the year, from CRASH Week to Shipwrecked to
the iconic BCom pub crawls and insane athletic tournaments. I’m looking forward to
planning some new and captivating events and initiatives for students to get even more
involved. The Engagement portfolio makes students time at UVic more than just school and
studying, but a memorable and exciting experience. I am motivated and love to work hard,
but also am excited to have a lot of fun as the incoming Executive of Engagement. My ideal
candidate would be driven to push boundaries and work hard to create a culture of
excitement and a great year of events with our students.

Please don’t hesitate to inquire about the portfolio or positions available to myself, Paige Cey
at [email protected] or the current VP of Engagement, Caitlyn Santos at
[email protected].

EVENTS

The events portfolio is responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating four large scale
events throughout the year. These events include the Grad Gala, the Greater Victoria
Business Banquet, the Gustavson Commerce Club Appreciation Dinner and the Gustavson
School of Business Conference. As the incoming Executive of Events, I am determined,
motivated and committed to providing the best events for the Gustavson student
community. This year my goal is to provide students with unique experiences and give them
a chance to make life long memories at these events.

I am looking for directors who are innovative, creative and are able to approach a problem
from different angles to maximize the success of events. Ideal candidates are individuals
who are organized, committed and passionate about their work. These individuals should
not only be capable of thriving independently, but they should also excel in a team setting. If
you have any questions about the events portfolio please contact either myself, Sarika
Kumar at [email protected] or the current VP of Events, Clio Hofler at
[email protected].

ACADEMICS

The academics portfolio is one of the most vital portfolios within the CSS and is way more
fun than it might sound! This portfolio is designed for developing personal skills and for
enhancing student development by exposing Gustavson students to opportunities that will
help them in the real world. As the current academics portfolio stands, this team is
responsible for hosting events such as pre-core case competitions, speaker series, the
buddy program and international student program.

As the incoming VP of academics, one of my goals is to break the stigma around Academics
that it might be “boring” or that you have to be “super smart” to be a part of it! This year my
team and I will look at rebranding the portfolio with this goal that all the events we host are
intended to help students with skills they need out of the classroom. Gustavson students
will improve their public speaking through case competitions, their technical skills through
various workshops, increase their knowledge about different work fields through networking
events and much much more. I am looking for team members that are creative, hard-
working and have great interpersonal skills to participate in a collaborative environment.

If you have any questions about the portfolio, please contact myself, Yamini Iyer @
[email protected] or the current VP of academics, Katharine Lazar at
[email protected].

CORPORATE RELATIONS

Corporate Relations is the portfolio which comprises of communicating, building and
developing relationships with external corporate sponsors. The main goal of the portfolio is
to connect the CSS with corporations seeking to sponsor our events and the Gustavson
Commerce Club. This is not limited to those who are current sponsors but also seeking out
and onboarding of new sponsors throughout the year.

Corporate Relations supports other portfolios such as events and engagement helping
them in securing funding, venues, in-kind donations and other forms of sponsorship.
Without sponsorship, many of the events and opportunities provided to the student body
would not be possible. Throughout the year we seek to fill all sponsorship levels at each
event, this means that there will be multiple corporate sponsors for each. An example of this
is securing a title, platinum, gold and silver level sponsorships for the Annual Business
Banquet. Corporate relations also manages the membership for the Gustavson Commerce
Club (GCC), which aims to connect students with local businesses and corporations. The
main objective for the GCC is to continue to build membership as well as maintain current
members.

As a director of corporate relations, you will be working on a team with 5-6 others on
either the Gustavson Commerce club or large event sponsorship. Being able to work on a
team, as well as independently when given a task or objective is key. You make decisions
and take actions that will make a difference and build for the present as well as the future of
the CSS. You proactively seek new opportunities, identify and find new value for sponsorship
wherever possible. Having a strong sales technique, interpersonal skills, and the ability to
think dynamically is an asset. The skills you will learn through this position set you apart
from the average business student allowing you to build yourself as an individual as well as
a candidate for jobs. An additional benefit is the connections and relationships built through
corporate relations will stick with you and help you the rest of your life.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to myself, Chase Kazakoff at [email protected]
or the current VP of Corporate Relations, Jazz Chodak at [email protected].

Are you ready to join the Marketing team of the Commerce Student Society? Marketing is a
fairly broad term and an expansive area of expertise that incorporates many different parts
and skills. We will be communicating the Commerce Student Society’s brand to the whole
student body. The Marketing Portfolio ensures that the students at the Gustavson Business
School are well aware of the events and volunteer opportunities promoted by the Commerce
Student Society.

Our value lies in building the Commerce Student Society’s level of recognition as well as
maintain solid relationships with Gustavson’s student body. Nourishing every single
business student’s trust in the Commerce Student Society is very important. We will be
transitioning the Commerce Student Society’s brand, build a solid digital presence, and
effectively communicate our events and values. Do you have a passion for marketing and
communications? Do you thrive in a fast paced environment? The ideal candidate is highly
competent in teamwork and communication, self-driven, and creative. Experience in design
or digital marketing is not a necessity but is desirable. If you should have any questions,
please do not hesitate to reach out to myself, Sophia Striker at [email protected] or the
current VP of Marketing, Andres Agresot at [email protected].

FINANCE

The finance portfolio is responsible for formulating the CSS budget, tracking expenses and
general financial management. Some of my goals for this year are to implement an
accounting software, streamline payments and update our financial policy. This portfolio is
essential to the CSS and the Gustavson student community as efficiently allocating finances
allows the CSS to put on quality events year after year. As the incoming Executive of Finance,
I am a motivated, organized, and hard-working person, therefore, an incoming director would
emulate similar qualities. The ideal candidate will be proactive and have keen attention to
detail, which are key competencies when managing finances. If you have any questions
about the portfolio please contact myself, Amy McTavish at [email protected] or the
current VP of Finance, Nolan MacNichol at [email protected].

head special projects throughout the year, such as event debriefs and inventory
maintenance. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, dedicated to continual
improvement, and have the ability to multitask. If you should have any questions, please
