Horticulture

If you saw a flower, plant or tree today, enjoyed beautiful landscaping in a park, walked over turf grass or played on a
basketball, football or golf course then chances are you benefitted from the work of a horticulturist during your day. While
other TECH Center Agriscience program focus on staple crops, Horticulture is the study of creative and sustainable
solutions to use plants and plant research to enhance personal health and the quality of life. Whether you want to work in
a lab, a field, a floral shop, at an arboretum, a botanical garden, in plant research or on the golf course, the possibilities in
horticulture are plentiful.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION INSTRUCTOR

The Horticulture class is held at the LISD Center for a Sustainable Future, Don Fowler, a Michigan Horticulture
where plants, flowers and small fruits and vegetable production are grown Teacher of the Year with over 30

Natural Resources

Natural Resources is a rapidly developing part of the agriculture industry with new jobs and businesses forecasted across
the Midwest. As a student in Natural Resources, you will learn at the state-of-the-art LISD Center for a Sustainable Future
– designed to be the state’s first net-zero energy use high school campus. The new facility models sustainable energy
practices and has been recognized as a “Green Ribbon School” by the US Department of Education.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION INSTRUCTOR

Work-Based Learning

Work-Based Learning (WBL), a collaborative effort of employers, LISD TECH Center and local school districts, is a
combination of on-the-job training and related classroom instruction. Students work under the guidance of highly skilled
professionals where they learn the practical and theoretical aspects of an occupation.
