What you need to know
• School starts at 8:45 and ends at 3:15
• Drop off and pick up is in the playground – adults, please wait
with your child until they have come into school
• Children all have a named peg for coats, bags, etc.
• All children are eligible for a free school dinner
• Water is available throughout the school day
• Reception has its own toilet facilities.
The school day
• Children come into school at 8:45 and we take a register
• All children access Phonics teaching as their first lesson
• Learning in Reception is topic-based and all learning stems from carefully
chosen, brilliant books!
• Children have a playtime in the morning – school provides a healthy snack
(or feel free to bring your own)
• Lunch is at 11:45
• During the afternoon, children aged 4 can have optional free milk

What your child will need
• Uniform – purchased through Ziggy’s or The Uniform Shop
• Book Bag – as above

take home and refill each day

clothes – just in case!

Transition to ‘big school’
• Monday 4th July – one-hour long session (Group A/B)
• If you think (or we think), your child may benefit from increased
transition before the summer holidays, please chat to us
• Tuesday 6th September – everyone in!
• For the first week, registers will stay open until 9am and we will
start releasing children at 3pm
• We have a well-established programme that quickly builds
relationships between your child and others, and with adults.

• After school, until 6:00pm – snacks provided

• Practising our names
• Encouraging children to get excited about starting Bowling Green, including routines of
school
• Supporting independence when getting dressed, undressed, washing hands, eating, etc.
• Developing game-playing and turn-taking skills, and good sharing
• Drawing, colouring in and scissor skills
• Taking every opportunity to talk, role play and develop language
• Singing songs, rhyming books/games, having fun with alliteration, ‘listening walks’
• Supporting children to recognise (and write) their own name
