Warm up Craft
With this bespoke hot water bottle cover

NO SEWING MACHINE?

If you don’t have a sewing machine, place
the pieces wrong sides together and blanket
stitch by hand.

My versions are slightly more simple and, I
guess, more practical. e fabric needs to be
quite thick – both to keep the heat in, like a
tea cozy, and, most importantly, so that you
don’t burn yourself. e ones I’ve had most
success with are made from old grain sack
or hemp. Using vintage also means that the
fabric is much softer, as it’s been worn in
over the years. I don’t use a pattern for these
because hot-water bottles vary in size.

1. Fold the fabric in half, right sides
together. Place the hot water bottle on top,
then draw around it with tailor’s chalk or
a fabric marker pen. Add a 2-in. (5-cm)
border all around. Cut out. You will have
one piece for the front of the cover and one
for the back.

2. If you want to decorate the cover, do so sides and the bottom edge. just attach the ribbon to the back of the
