Appointment of Independent
Public Interest Members to
the Press Council of Ireland

The Press Council of Ireland provides the public with an independent forum
for resolving complaints against the press, seeks to maintain standards in Irish
journalism and journalistic ethics and endeavours to protect the freedom of
the press. It is comprised of 13 people, with a majority of seven independent
public interest members drawn from outside the press industry.

Council members are also directors of the Press Council of Ireland and have
regulatory and governance responsibilities.

Applications are currently being sought for independent public interest members
of the Press Council, who are chosen to reflect the various strands of Irish society
and are drawn from suitable persons representing a broad spectrum of society.
Applicants should be free of any involvement in the press industry that could pose
a conflict of interest.

A panel will be established from which successful applicants will be appointed to
the Council for a term of three years, renewable once.

A letter outlining your suitability for this role, accompanied by a CV, should be
sent by 5pm on Friday 31 May 2019
