The Fair City actress
talks wedding plans,
appreciation and her latest
harrowing storyline

Sorcha Furlong has had a lot of irons in
the fire of late. While most of us were
curled up on the couch until well into
the New Year, the Fair City actress was
busy playing the Evil Baroness in Jack
and the Beanstalk on the panto stage
before getting back to her day job in quick
succession. “It was an amazing experience
and also the total opposite of what I knew I
going into. I was going from getting booed
by the kids to bawling, it was definitely the
other side of the coin,” she says, referring
to her current storyline on the show.

Sorcha’s character Orla and her on-
screen husband Wayne [played by Victor
Burke] are going through the difficult
process of IVF in order to have a second
child to help their son Junior, who has
been diagnosed with Fanconi anaemia. To
complicate matters further, as neither Orla
nor Wayne are a bone marrow match for
Junior, his biological dad Tommy will also
be the new baby’s biological father.

While Sorcha has been involved in some
fantastic plots over the years, being a
parent to eight-year-old Stella, meant this
one in particular has tugged at her heart
strings more so than others.

“As a parent, if there’s anything going
on in your life you’re always trying to
protect your child if there’s anything
happening.

“Myself and Victor were very conscious
even around Charlie, who plays Junior,
doing those scenes because we had to be
upset and you don’t want to upset him.
