What Happens If (WHI)?

Often times the first person
to recognize that
something is wrong in one
of our labs is the person
working in that lab.

If you noticed that something is wrong what steps would you
take to get it corrected?

The proper course of action is:

1.Informing the Safety Office (533-8595) and
2.Putting in a work order (for details see this link:

http://cincinnati.cdc.gov/Site/Page.aspx?pageId=127. That
way you can be sure there that your Lab or Facility issue will
get “attention to resolution”.

LOST AND FOUND ITEMS

Please provide all found
items to the security front
desk immediately so they
may be returned as soon as
possible to the rightful owner.

safety and health issues. The
OAMS Safety Office will check
the boxes and review
suggestions which will be
posted in the OAMS

Lowdown.

QUARTERLY SAFETY INSPECTIONS

The Cincinnati Occupational Safety and Health
Oversight Committee (COSHOC) Work Group does

safety inspections on a quarterly basis.

This effort will involve two or more work group
members for each building.

They will inspect offices, public areas, grounds, and
mechanical spaces to identify any potential safety
hazards that the Environmental, Health, and Safety

Office needs to address.
If you have any questions about these inspections
please contact the Environmental, Health and Safety

office at [email protected] or 513-533-8595.

First Aid Kits are located at the Security Guards’
desks at the Taft and Hamilton Buildings.

At the Taft North Buildings,
they are located by the AED units.

**Please report any spills to the
Security Guard.**

Security Procedures and Practices

 You must use the call button to call the guard
to gain entry to the building after 7 PM. The
fenced gates are locked nightly at 7 PM and
reopened at 5:30 AM.

 You must sign-in at the guard’s desk so they
know you’re in the building in case of an
emergency to make sure you are accounted
for.

When the network is down, the Lync
phones may not work for external and in some
cases internal connections depending on the
extent of the outage. If an emergency occurs
there are phones located at the AED
stations and at the guards desks.

Please contact Dan Horgan, ITSO at
841-4474 or Norma McKee, (304)285-6215, if you have
any questions or need additional clarification.

It’s no secret!!

SAFETY AND HEALTH TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Managers/Supervisors/Coordinators

Managers are required to complete all safety classes (e.g.

fire/emergency response training).

Managers are directly involved in determining their employees’

individual safety training needs and completing and submitting the
training requirements form for every new hire.

Managers are responsible to ensure that their employees are

receiving the appropriate training.

Some managers are required to attend classes related to

hazards their direct subordinates face (e.g., respiratory protection,
radiation safety or blood borne pathogens/exposure control training).

The Safety Training Policy can be found at:

SAFETY AND HEALTH TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Employees

All employees are required to participate in NIOSH Cincinnati’s
safety training program. Online training is offered for some classes
with the goal of all classes being offered online later this year.

Individual’s training requirements are entered in a database,
which notifies employees when they are coming due for refresher
training, and alerts employees and their supervisors when training is
not completed. A certificate is issued upon completion of a course.

Non-completion of safety training requirements may result in
denial of access to NIOSH facilities.

Employees do not receive their official ID badge until on-line
safety training has been completed and a Training Requirements
Form is submitted for each new hire.

The Safety Training Policy can be found at:
http://cinoams.cdc.gov/oamssite/Policy%20Files/01d_Safety_Training_V2(12-29-2009).pdf
