“We are dumbfounded that the chairman has Chivhu Residents and Rate-
taken a council vehicle to his homestead while
top officials bought themselves top of the
range vehicles. This is corruption,” said Muten-
gani.
The vehicles have yellow number plates indicat-
ing that they are not council property.
Peter Chibhi, the Chief Executive Officer is said
to have gone for the more imposing Toyota
Land Cruiser at a cost of US$140 000. The
vehicle is yet to be delivered.
Chibhi confirmed the arrangement and said
that there was a council resolution to support
it. He added that council took the loan on be-
half of the managers and the beneficiaries will
pay back the loan in full. The repayment period
is five years.
Masakadza however, dismissed Chibhi’s state-
ment and said managers will in fact pay half
the loan and the other half will be paid by the
ratepayers.
Chibhi could not comment on the issue of sal-
ary backlog.
“We are shocked that management at council
are spoiling themselves with luxury vehicles at
a time when the economy is performing badly.
We have poor health service in the district and
people have no access to clean water and yet
senior managers prioritise luxury vehicles and
ignore people’s plight,” said Mutengani.
Sources alleged that Masakadza was part of
the scam and he signed the deal after he was
promised a new vehicle. Masakadza was eva-
sive on the issue.
He however, confirmed that he had taken cus-
tody of a council vehicle.
“The vehicles were bought by a loan after a
council resolution to do so. Council will pay
half of the loan while the employees will pay
the remainder,” said Masakadza.
Sources said Masakadza impounded the coun-
cil vehicle after realising that management had
duped him by not buying a new vehicle for
him.
Chibhi also said that it was council that passed
a resolution for Masakadza to keep a council
vehicle at home. He however, said that the
resolution needed the Minister’s assent.
“The chairman took the vehicle after a council
resolution. We are however, waiting for the
Minister’s approval,” said Chibhi.

firmed receipt of a letter from Muzenda’s
lawyers, Mwonzora and Associates which gave
him two days to dissolve a new committee
elected on April 9, 2022.
Muzenda who served as chair for 18 continu-

removed from the position unprocedurally and
argued that the switch by the school from a
School Development Association (SDA) to a
School Development Committee (SDC) consti-

An angry Matongo complained that Muzenda
was trying to bully him for decisions made
by parents and he described parents as the
supreme power in the school.
He said that the problem with Muzenda is that
he served for too long and he is now finding it
difficult to accept change.
“I am being intimidated for the wrong reasons.
Parents have the power to elect and remove
the committee. This is the problem when
someone overstays in power, it will be difficult
to accept change,” said Matongo.

CHIREDZI – Emerging sugarcane farmers in
Chiredzi are fueling child labour taking advan-

area, the Parliamentary Thematic Committee
on Human Rights was told.
It is estimated that there are over 50 children
working in sugarcane fields in Chiredzi and
residents called on the Department of Social
Welfare to look into the issue.
Speaking during a fact finding meeting to
gather causes of child labour from the com-
munities on Wednesday, several residents and
representatives of civic organisations said small
scale sugarcane growers are the worst culprits
employing children under the age of 18 in the
fields.
The committee is headed by Senator Sydney
Sekeremai.
Douglas Mwonzora who is a member of the
committee was also present in the meeting
that was held at Chitsanga Hall.
Jonathan Muusha of the Zimbabwean Tradi-
tional Medical Practitioners Council said there
was need to intensify awareness on child la-
bour to both sugarcane farmers and parents so
that they don’t take their children with them to
work on sugarcane farms.

Zvekuzwa Chisoro Mlambo. CHIPINGE – A teacher at Gaza High School in
Chipinge is appealing for US$4 000 to un-
dergo an emergency medical surgery for distal
corpus and antra ulcer that has stopped him
from going to work.
Zvekuzwa Chisoro Mlambo (51) is currently
admitted at Warren Park’s Suburban Medical
Centre waiting for the surgery and the afflic-
tion is causing him excruciating pain.
The amount is needed for hospital admission,
blood transfusion, doctors’ and anesthetic
fees.
The operation will be carried out at Chitung-
wiza Hospital as soon as the funds are made
available.
Mlambo has been in and out of Chipinge and
Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospitals since June
last year.
“I was diagnosed with a distal corpus and
antral ulcer last year which is causing gastric
outlet obstruction. Doctors have recommended
a surgical intervention. This requires a fund-
ing of over USD $4 000. I am kindly in need of
prayers, support and financial assistance.
“I have been going to work but it hasn’t been
easy. It has been on and off because of this
health condition. I failed to finish last term

Taken away at times unexpected,
The unexpected leaving us dejected.
Although your company we expected,
You bade farewell when infected,
Grabbed away by COVID-19.
You went through the pain of sickness,
COVID-19 exploiting the body’s weakness.
Quarantined you experienced loneliness,
Cut off from any human business,
Only to be taken away by COVID-19.
Doctors and nurses tried their best,
As COVID-19 was your unwanted guest,
The unwanted guest that kills with zest.
Family and friends could not rest,
Tested they did pass the love test.
But you were taken away by COVID-19.
Rest in peace our dear departed,
Due to COVID-19 we quickly parted,
Leaving our hearts painfully gutted.
From earthly life you were retracted,
A new spiritual life you have started.
Rest in peace wherever you may be hosted.
May we also rest in peace from grief?
