There is… และ There are... หมายถงึ ม.ี .. ใช้พูดเพือ่ บอกถึงการมีอยขู่ องบางส่งิ บางอย่าง ซึ่งหลาย ๆ ครัง้
ยังมีการใชส้ บั สนกนั อยู่บ้าง

ตอ้ งจำ! 1. There is ใชก้ ับคำนามนบั ได้เอกพจน์ (singular countable noun) และคำนามนบั ไม่ได้ (uncountable
noun)

2. There are ใช้กบั คำนามพหูพจน์ (plural noun)
การใช้ There is… – There are…ในประโยคบอกเลา่

There is + คำนามนบั ได้เอกพจน์ (singular countable noun) เชน่
There is a cat on the roof. (มีแมวอยูบ่ นหลังคา)
There is a glass of water on the table. (มีน้ำ 1 แกว้ บนโต๊ะ)
There is a woman by the door. (มีผูห้ ญงิ อยใู่ กล้ประต)ู
There is a calendar on the wall. (มปี ฏิทินอยู่บนผนัง)

There is + คำนามนบั ไมไ่ ด้ (uncountable noun) เชน่
There is milk in the fridge. (มนี มอยใู่ นตเู้ ย็น)
There is some sugar on the floor. (มนี ำ้ ตาลอยูบ่ นพน้ื )
There is some beer in the glass. (มีเบยี รเ์ หลืออยบู่ ้างในแก้ว)
รปู ย่อ There is… = There’s…

There are + คำนามพหพู จน์ (plural noun) เช่น
There are books in my bag. (มีหนังสือ (มากกว่าหนึ่งเล่ม) ในกระเปา๋ ของฉัน)
There are two files in my soup. (มีแมลงวนั สองตวั ในซุปของฉัน)
There are some children in the house. (มเี ดก็ ๆ อยู่ในบ้าน)
There are many flowers. (มดี อกไมม้ ากมาย)
There are apples in the basket. (มแี อปเปิลหลายลูกในตะกรา้ )

การใช้ There is… – There are…ในประโยคปฏเิ สธ
There is not… หรือรูปยอ่ วา่ There isn’t… เชน่
There isn’t a book in my bag. (ไมม่ หี นังสอื อยู่บนโต๊ะ)
There isn’t a dog in the room. (ไมม่ หี มาอยูใ่ นหอ้ ง)
There isn’t any milk in the fridge. (ไมม่ ีนมในตู้เยน็ เลย)
There isn’t any water in the swimming pool. (ไม่มนี ้ำในสระว่ายน้ำเลย)

There are not… หรอื รูปย่อวา่ There aren’t…
There aren’t two dogs in the room. (ไมม่ หี มาสองตัวอย่ใู นหอ้ ง)
There aren’t any children in the park. (ไม่มเี ดก็ ๆ อยูใ่ นสวนเลย)
There aren’t any books here. (ไม่มหี นงั สืออยทู่ นี่ ่ีเลย)

ขอ้ สงั เกต : เมอื่ ตอ้ งการบอกว่าเราไมม่ ีสิง่ นั้นเลยหรอื มีจำนวนเป็นศูนย์ เราจะใช้ There aren’t any… เชน่ There
aren’t any children in the park. และยังใชโ้ ครงสร้างนี้กบั นามนับไมไ่ ด้ดว้ ย เช่น There isn’t any water in the
swimming pool.

การทำเป็นประโยคคำถาม
1. ประโยคคำถาม Yes-No Question : นำ Is / Are มาขนึ้ ต้นประโยค เชน่

Q: Is there a cat on the roof?
A: Yes, there is. / No, there isn’t.

Q: Are there any children in the park.
A: Yes, there are. / No, there aren’t.

2. ประโยคคำถามทต่ี ้องการร้จู ำนวนของสิ่งนั้นจะใช้ How many ตามโครงสร้างดังนี้
How many + คำนามพหพู จน์ (plural noun) + are there + ส่วนเติมเต็มของประโยค (complement) เชน่
How many cats are there under the bed?
How many people are there in this room?
