STAYING SAFE
It’s important that you feel safe when attending
college. All Apprentices will have access to a
Professional Skills Development Programme (PSDP).
This will include topics such as PREVENT, staying safe
online, sexual harassment and Fundamental British
Values (FBV) to ensure you are safe in and out of college.
SAFEGUARDING
Your safety is our biggest priority. Any apprentice who
feels unsafe should report concerns to us as soon as
possible. You can use the online New College Durham
Safeguarding Portal any time of the day or night:

SUPPORT
& CAREERS
The ASC Department (Advice Support & Careers) can
provide you with an impartial and confidential service
if you need careers guidance, advice on finances or
personal counselling.
You can book a 1-2-1 appointment by calling into
the ASC Department, located next to the main

LEARNING
SUPPORT
We have a dedicated team of Learner Support
staff for apprentices with disabilities and specific
learning difficulties.

Higher Apprentices can also access support from the
HE Academic Support Tutor on 0191 375 4485.

The Personal Learning Coaches provide personalised
support and guidance to apprentices when in college,

STUDENTS’
UNIONS
It is the role of the Students’ Union to ensure that you feel
happy, supported, and able to complete your programme
at New College Durham. The role includes: looking after
your welfare, supporting you to communicate your
thoughts about college life and to provide a range of
activities for you to participate in. You also automatically
become a member of the Students’ Union when you enrol
at New College Durham, so all apprentices can access
the services offered. You can also purchase a TOTUM
card of which you can access discounts and offers from a
number of high profile shops and services.

OUR
CAMPUS
We continually invest in our campus, facilities and
resources to give you a modern and stimulating
learning environment. You will find everything you need
in our spacious, state-of-the-art college buildings,
complemented by the most up to date learning
materials, IT facilities, library, Digital Learning Hub, Quiet
Study Room, and the Employability Hub. The Library
offers support to Apprentices and there is access to
the Study Store where resources can be purchased.
As well as being a great place to study, it is also a
great place to socialise and catch up with friends.
We have a hair and beauty salon, gym, dance studio
and multipurpose sports hall, shops, restaurants, and
even a Starbucks and Costa Coffee.
ENRICHMENT
ACTIVITIES
A range of enrichment activities are available to all
apprentices including guest speakers, education visits,
and enrichment sessions that take place every day
between 12pm and 1pm, on Wednesdays between 1pm
and 4pm, and on Fridays between 1pm and 3pm.

Apprentices MUST use their college email account to sign
in to college systems such as Office 365 and Teams.
Please do not use your personal email address.
