Andy Walsh, FC United of Manchester.

A GAME CHANGER

Bala Sport has been fortunate to work in consultation with some of GLASGOW 2016
sport’s national governing bodies like the Scottish Futsal League, the Photo credit: Homeless World Cup
Scottish Volleyball Association and the Street Football Association to
develop the right spec of quality balls for your game.

You don’t need to worry about quality when you buy a Bala Sport ball. To develop the right
spec of balls for your game we work with sports teams, national governing bodies and
global tournament organisers who demand professional standards for their players.

Bala Sport Fairtrade balls were the choice of official match ball for the 2016 Homeless
World Cup and the European Street Soccer Festival 2016.

The Street Football Association in England and Street Soccer Scotland use Fairtrade
Bala Sport balls and more and more football clubs are choosing to play fair at community
levels.

“When the offer of using Fairtrade balls at the Homeless World Cup was put
to us we were very keen to make this happen. The concept is great and the
balls are really good.”

Mel Young, President, The Homeless World Cup

WHO’S CHOOSING TO PLAY FAIR?

At school level, Bala are the ideal choice, and the Official Schools Ball of the Scottish Volleyball Association.
Fairtrade economics is part of the curriculum for many children so it is great to be able to put that into action
on the playing fields and in the sports halls.

“There are so many big sports balls companies but Bala Sport gives an extra 10% benefit to the workers in the
factories and this is something we want to promote as a school”.

Dominic Tollan, PE Teacher

QUALITY TESTED

At Bala Sport we mean business and place a major emphasis on
quality and performance. That’s why we carry out rigorous tests on
all our balls.

For our Team, Astro and Pro balls we make and test them to the same specs as FIFA
balls. Our Pro ball for instance is put through its paces for weight, shape, water
absorption, bounce and loss of pressure with the ball being fired 2000 times at speed
against a steel plate.

“The balls have kept shape and have not shown much wear during the
month-long trial. They were used in very wet conditions as well and have
dried out really well. They performed brilliantly. Players and coaches have
all loved the balls.”

Alistair West, Football & PCS Coordinator, Leisure and Sport, Dundee

THE AWAY SIDE –
MEET THE PRODUCERS

Our workers in developing countries are at the core of what Bala Sport is about.

We want them to get a fairer go in life, and we like to visit our workers to see how they are doing, and benefiting from Fairtrade.

THE FAIRTRADE PREMIUM

From the purchase of every Bala Sport ball we pay the
workers an extra 10% Fairtrade Premium.

This is a cash sum invested democratically by workers in the likes of
free eye and diabetes tests, school books, fair price shops and free,
safe transportation to and from work. The Premium has also helped
pay for water purification plants for the use of the whole community,
not just factory workers.
