The term shalom refers to
soundness, completeness,
harmony, and the absence of
strife. The Lord commissioned
Gideon to save Israel, and
yet he felt inadequate. The
Lord’s promises helped to
dispel uncertainty and fear,
“I will be with you…Peace be
to you. Do not fear, you shall
not die” (Judges 6:16, 23). As a
result of these words, Gideon
experienced peace in the truest
sense.

After building an altar to
the Lord, Gideon could now
confront the enemy and
undertake amazing exploits.
His encounter with Yahweh
Shalom removed his aloneness
and empowered him to fulfill
the Lord’s mission. Shalom
can also mean whole, finished,
fulfilled, or perfected—serving
as a title of hope to describe
God’s presence.

“The Lord gives strength to his
people; the Lord blesses his
people with peace”
(Psalm 29:11).

Pray for Yourself

“Dear Prince of Peace, I ask
that you rule in my heart,
allowing me to fulfill my calling
to make peace with gratitude
(Isaiah 9:6; Colossians 3:15;
James 3:18). Turn your face
toward me and give me your
peace as I seek to become a
peacemaker (Matthew 5:9;
Numbers 6:26).”

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you
peace at all times and in every way”
(2 Thessalonians 3:16).

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,
since as members of one body you were called
to peace. And be thankful” (Colossians 3:15).

As we face “terrible times in the last days”
(2 Timothy 3:1–5), followers of Jesus are
promised sustainable peace. “Peace I leave
with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to
you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts
be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27).
As we delight in his Word, we have a confident
peace and expectant hope in his Lordship in all
things. “Great peace have those who love your
law, and nothing can make them stumble”
(Psalm 119:165).

Pray for Others

“I pray for _______ to receive your peace at all
times and in every way (2 Thessalonians 3:16).
Keep him/her in perfect peace as his/her mind
is steadfast and trusting in you (Isaiah 26:3).
Guard his/her heart and mind in Christ Jesus
(Philippians 4:6-7).”

Faith Relationships Wellness Vocation Finance

In “whole-life” discipleship, the focus of John 10:10 broadens from
only focusing exclusively on faith to including other dimensions
of “abundant life” or flourishing such as relationships, wellness,
vocation, and finances.

In “whole-life” discipleship, missional churches engage
their members and reach seekers through giving priority
to a Spirit-empowered faith which can be defined with
observable outcomes using a biblical framework. The
metrics for measuring Spirit-empowered faith or the growth of a
disciple come from Scripture and are organized/framed around
four distinct dimensions of a disciple who serves from Ephesians
4:11–12.

Therefore, the “40 Spirit-Empowered Faith Outcomes” have been
identified and organized around:

• Serving/loving the Lord—(Acts 13:2) L1-10.

• Serving/loving His Word—(Acts 6:4) W1-10.

• Serving/loving people—(Galatians 5:13) P1-10.

• Serving/loving His mission—(2 Corinthians 5:18) M1-10.
