“God Is There/Ever-Present”
“Writhe in agony, Daughter Zion, like a
woman in labor, for now you must leave
the city to camp in the open field. You will
go to Babylon; there you will be rescued.
There the LORD will redeem you out of the
hand of your enemies” (Micah 4:10).

In the closing chapters
of Ezekiel, the prophet
describes what God told him
in a vision about this coming
restoration of the land,
the city, and the temple.
He includes detailed plans
and measurements for the
restored city. The final words
of Ezekiel’s book are these:
“And the name of the city
from that day shall be: THE
LORD IS THERE [Yahweh
Shammah]” (Ezekiel 48:35).
That name, Yahweh
Shammah, would have
special meaning for the
Jewish exiles. They felt
forsaken in Babylon and
cut off from God, but in this
glorious city of promise—
THE LORD IS THERE—they
were assured of God’s
presence! The apostle

John interprets Ezekiel’s
description of the restored
city as the New Jerusalem,
which will come down to
Earth out of heaven, where
sin is no more
(Revelation 21).
Pray for Yourself
“Lord, thank you for being
there for me (Ezekiel 48:35;
Micah 4:10). I am never
alone because you promised
to be present with me in
every situation
(Matthew 28:20). You never
leave me, and you never
forsake me (Hebrews 13:5).
Please make me more
aware of your abiding
presence and lead me often
into Spirit-led worship and
praise for your ever-present
help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).”

“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
‘Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the
people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his
people, and God himself will be with them and be
their God’” (Revelation 21:3).
Like the Israelites centuries ago, we have the
promise of a glorious city where we will live with
God. Yahweh Shammah will be there, and we will
be his people. He is the God who is always there. Yet
the promise is not only for the future. God is there
for us today. Like the Israelites in Babylon, we may
feel forsaken and alone, but God promises never to
leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). He is Yahweh
Shammah—GOD IS THERE. Before he returned to
heaven, Jesus promised his disciples, “I am with you
always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20),
and that promise is for each of us as well.
Pray for Others
“Ever-present God, I pray for _______ to approach you
with boldness, knowing that you are always with
him/her (Hebrews 13:5; Matthew 28:20). Increase his/
her awareness that you are encamped around him/
her to provide deliverance (Psalm 34:7). Continue to
show your strength as a place of refuge and ever-
present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).”

Faith Relationships Wellness Vocation Finance
In “whole-life” discipleship, the focus of John 10:10 broadens from
only focusing exclusively on faith to including other dimensions
of “abundant life” or flourishing such as relationships, wellness,
vocation, and finances.
In “whole-life” discipleship, missional churches engage
their members and reach seekers through giving priority
to a Spirit-empowered faith which can be defined with
observable outcomes using a biblical framework. The
metrics for measuring Spirit-empowered faith or the growth of a
disciple come from Scripture and are organized/framed around
four distinct dimensions of a disciple who serves from Ephesians
4:11–12.
Therefore, the “40 Spirit-Empowered Faith Outcomes” have been
identified and organized around:
• Serving/loving the Lord—(Acts 13:2) L1-10.
• Serving/loving His Word—(Acts 6:4) W1-10.
• Serving/loving people—(Galatians 5:13) P1-10.
• Serving/loving His mission—(2 Corinthians 5:18) M1-10.
