Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep,

I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow,

I am the diamond glints on the snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,

I am the gentle showers of rain,
When you awaken in the mornings’ hush,

I am the graceful rush,
Of beautiful birds that circling flight,

I am the starshine of the night,
I am the flowers that bloom,
I am a quiet room,
I am the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing,

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I have not left.

In loving memory of THE LATE EMMANUEL KOTEY HAMMOND

BIOGRAPHY OF THE LATE MR. EMMANUEL KOTEY HAMMOND

The late Emmanuel Kotey (E. K.) Hammond was born to Joseph Neequaye Hammond and Isabella Darkua Hammond, both of blessed memory on Friday,
September 16, 1949. Of ten children, he was the sixth and the first male. He was adored by his parents and a prized possession. He spent the majority of
his formative years in Adabraka, Ayalolo, Bubuashie, and ultimately Gbawe Zero, until his demise.

At the Nsawam Road Primary and Middle School, E.K. Hammond began his elementary education, which he completed in 1962. He sat for the Common
Entrance Examination at form two and gained admission to one of Ghana’s premier schools in Cape Coast- Mfantsipim Secondary School, from 1962 to 1967.
He earned an Ordinary General Certificate there. He was an avid reader who was willing to share his knowledge and experiences with all and sundry.

E.K. Hammond started out as a clerical officer with the Public Works Department (P.W.D.) in 1969. When the previous administration split the PWD in half in
1974, Architectural Engineering Services Limited was created (A.E.S.L.). In 1975, he made the decision to join A.E.S.L.’s Quantity Surveyors Division. He was
promoted internally to the position of Claims Officer in the accounts department. In 2006, he advanced to the position of Acting Claims Manager, which he held
until his retirement in 2012.

On 26th December 1987, E.K. Hammond, was wedded to Madam Margaret Bruce-Cobbold at the St. Joseph Anglican Church in Kaneshie. They were blessed
with three beautiful girls namely: Christabel, Isabella and Serafina. E.K. Hammond loved his family so much that he went above and beyond what was necessary
to make their lives comfortable.

Being the wonderful family man that he was, he gave his extended family’s activities equal priority to those of his personal family. He played a yeoman’s role as
a responsible kinsman and acting family leader, and as the peacemaker that he was, he was committed to bringing the family together.

E.K. Hammond was a devout Christian who was committed to the causes of the Lord as well as his family. He gave conscientious service by taking part in
the St. Joseph Anglican Church, Kaneshie, activities. He served as the Peoples Warden for five years, from 1987 to 1992, after many years of commitment.
He oversaw the construction of the new church building which we currently worship in, as well as the demolition of the previous church structure. He got the

nickname ‘People’ by being a man of honesty and being upfront in all
his interactions.
After moving to Gbawe with his family, he later joined Christ the King
Anglican Church Miracle. He joined the Parochial Church Council
(PCC) between 2011 and 2014 while he was a member of the church
in 2000. E.K. Hammond was much liked by the young people and
became a regular at all of their events and gatherings, earning the title
of Chairman.
E.K. Hammond, who served as chairman for six years at Christ the
King Anglican Church Miracle at Mallam Gbawe, was a pioneer in the
establishment of the Anglican Club. Later, he was elected to serve
a one-year term as President of the Association of Anglican Clubs
(A.A.C.).
E.K. Hammond kept strong ties with his MOBA 1967-year group and it
was a rarity to notice his absence in any of the activities they organized.
Until his demise, he was the secretary of the MOBA 67-year group and
Vice President to the MOBA National.
During the last three weeks before his demise, he battled a few health
issues which saw him in and out of hospital on a few occasions until
finally, on Monday 4th July 2022 when he suddenly passed on.
While we lament his untimely death, we are grateful to God for giving him to us for all these years, and are comforted by the assurance that he died in the
Lord and is at a better place. We, his wife, children, grandchildren and family members will miss him greatly because he was such a great pillar to us.
PRAISE THE LORD FOR A LIFE WELL LIVED IN GOD’S SERVICE, AMEN.

TRIBUTE TO MY DEAR HUSBAND

If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or
whether we die we are the Lord’s.
Romans 14:8

Kote, as I affectionately called you, our life of over 30 years has come to a sad
end. You have been a husband, a friend, my confidant, my pillar of support
and a great father to our children. I am grieved but consoled by the fact that you
are resting in the bosom of our Lord.

It is with a heavy heart that I accepted that the good Lord had called you home
when I saw your lifeless body in the car that morning. I saw you that morning, we
talked and I said I was off to work. Your response was for me to take care, not
knowing those were your last words to me.

EMMANUEL KOTEY HAMMOND To my astonishment, it was 1:30 am. We took a quiet route home while praying.
You always teased me with this incident.

You fought a gallant fight, but everything has an end, and your time with us has
come to an end. It is a sad day for all of us, but I find comfort in knowing that you
are resting in the bosom of the Lord Almighty. Rest in peace Kote!

BY CHRIST THE KING MEN’S FELLOWSHIP MALLAM-GBAWE

‘If we live, it is for the Lord that we live and if we die it is for the Lord that we die.
So whatever we do whether we live or die we belong to the LORD”
(Romans 14:8)

Oh! How sad it is to lose our Brother and best friend E.K or Mr. Hammond as we
affectionately called him. The sad news of our beloved Brother’s death reached us
with great shock and grief. E.K joined Christ the King Men’s Fellowship in the early 2007
and played a major role in most of the planning for the Chapter. He also contributed
immensely to our meetings. He was a staunch and selfless brother
who cared so much about others. We shared so many memories together especially
during occasions.

We remember very well when you sent a safe journey message during a burial service
of a brother father’s funeral that was early morning of Saturday 2nd July 2022 before
our departure.

When we heard that you had been admitted and then discharged from the hospital, we
prayed and hoped for a miracle, but God had his own plans. We
believe God knew you did not deserve the pain and had you lived longer so he called
you home to rest. E.K your earthly task is over, the battle day is past, the Earth has a
soul less and Heaven has an additional wonderful Angel. We believe a day shall come
when all the dead will rise.

Our Brother, we bid you farewell and may God preserve you in his bosom till we meet
again.

Have a Peaceful Rest

TRIBUTE BY GBAWE NORTH RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION

“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck what is planted; a time to
kill and a time to heal, a time to breakdown and a time to build up; a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance. [Ecclesiastics 3: 1-4]

We, the Gbawe North Residents Association, have assembled here to honor your wonderful God-given life of 70 years plus 2. As we celebrate you, our
stomachs churn.

Today, our hearts are filled with tremendous grief. Words cannot express how terrible this period has been for us. Your simple presence at our meetings and
active participation in all discussions brought life to the room.

We have treasured recollections of your tireless efforts to help the Association in our minds and hearts. We recollect how in the early 2000, you championed our
quest for drainage for our new developing zone of Gbawe by connecting us to the Hydrological Services Department of the Ministry of Works, through your wife.
Your efforts resulted in the Ministry delegating a full engineer to us to handle a large number of drainage projects - and this at a time when most districts in the
country were in severe need of development.

You were very active during our Saturday Walks for our Keep Fit program. This attitude so inspired many that you became a role model whose participation drew
many others to join. We remember how much fun you made of our walking sessions.

You pursued the Keep-Fit ethos even after the Association dissolved the program; you were constantly observed keeping up with the walks.

We’re still having trouble believing that we’re reading a tribute to your memory, Emmanuel. You had a hearty phone conversation with the Secretary that Sunday
and you sounded so vibrant. The Chairman phones the Secretary the next morning, Monday, and says, ‘bamm! this is what I’ve heard’. Emma, your death
exemplifies the actual meaning of the word “unexpected”.

Even as we grieve our beloved Emmanuel Kotey HAMMOND, we rejoice in his existence.

God gave you to us and in His own wisdom has taken you back. We say:

FARE WELL, REST IN THE BOSOM OF FATHER ABRAHAM!

or you can smile because he has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that he’ll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all he’s left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see him,
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him only that he is gone,
