Helping Hands Day 2021 saw 10 teams combine to complete 178 hours of volunteer work.
Some of this year’s projects included repairs that will enable seniors and people with Marathon Oil
disabilities to remain in their homes; beautifications and yard work that improve the
appearance of neighborhoods; and facility maintenance so nonprofits can spend more of Solvay

WYOGIVES DAY July 14, 2021
For 24 hours last July, citizens across Wyoming banded together in a show of support and
appreciation for the difference-making nonprofits in their communities.
Sponsored by Wyoming Nonprofit Network, WyoGives is a day when local nonprofits are the
star of the show, and awareness campaigns encourage everyone to contribute and make a
difference where they live.
With a match from Hughes Charitable Foundation, we raised $9,834.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE
Making a positive impact is a team effort. That’s why United Way of
Southwest Wyoming supports local nonprofits and charitable organizations
who are on the front lines in their communities.
“Susan” is a client of Lincoln Self Reliance (LSR), an organization that
supports individuals with disabilities to achieve maximum self-reliance and
be an active community member in Lincoln and Uinta Counties. Susan is
nonverbal, uses a wheelchair and has a feeding tube. She needs help from
her caregivers to accomplish basic tasks like eating, dressing and bathing.
Driving to and from the doctor is not an option.
Not long ago, Susan developed an acute medical condition that required
multiple trips to a specialist. Like millions of other Americans with mobility
concerns, transportation access could have been a major barrier to Susan’s
care. But thanks to funding from the United Way of Southwest Wyoming,
LSR could afford to take Susan to all her appointments, getting her the
help she needed. Today, because United Way supported her transportation
expenses, she is on the path to healing and a better quality of life.

TRANSFORMING LIVES,
ONE STORY AT A TIME
Beth is a successful, proud, financially stable mother. But things weren’t always that way. Just a few years
ago, Beth was $20,000 in debt, trying her hardest to afford an education while raising kids. She felt like
there was no light at the end of the tunnel.
That was before Beth heard about YWCA of Sweetwater County’s Financial Empowerment courses. After
enrolling, she quickly learned new skills, like how to manage a budget, eliminate unnecessary spending
and monitor her credit report. Her instructor, Cory, even helped her make a plan to start paying off her debt
while working and being in school. Before she knew it, Beth began to feel more confident and optimistic.
Upon finishing school, Beth was able to launch a good-paying career as a CDL driver. Sooner than she ever
dreamt, she had not only paid off her debt and saved a $5,000 emergency fund. She was able to afford her
first home, and is on the path to saving for retirement.
“The financial program changed my life,” Beth said. “Now I can teach my children how to save, and reward
them with an allowance for helping around the house. Thank you, Cory from YWCA, and also United Way
and CLIMB Wyoming, for showing me how to change my family’s future for the better.”

IMPACT BY THE NUMBERS
It’s the generosity of others that allows United Way of Southwest Wyoming to touch the lives of so many parents, senior citizens,
children, veterans and neighbors each year. Working as a team with our corporate partners and individual donors, we’re able to address

incredibly grateful for the countless individuals and businesses who donate their time, talents and resources to help transform our
communities for the better. We also genuinely appreciate the many, many volunteers who selflessly contribute to our cause, enabling
us to stretch and make every dollar count.

WHY I GIVE
CREATING STRONG STARTS FOR CHILDREN
Kids who grow up with access to high-quality early education
demonstrate a reduced need for special services; greater earning
potential; are more involved in their communities; and have lower
incarceration rates. In fact, every $1 invested in early childhood
education generates an estimated $12 economic return. Through
early education programs, we give kids the start they need, and help
prepare them for kindergarten.
PROVIDING SAFE HOMES AND WARM MEALS
Community programs help families stay in their homes while
addressing basic needs. Last year, over 5,512 of our neighbors
were able to access the food bank, and 599 households received
assistance to prevent homelessness.
SUPPORTING INDEPENDENCE FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
Local resources give senior citizens access to critical health services
and care. Every person in the community should have access to what
they need for a stable, healthy life—to thrive, rather than just survive.
