Ancient City of Sigiriya

The Kingdom of Sigiriya is recognized worldwide as one of the great adventures of
world architecture. Sigiriya has been known as a “kingdom built in the sky” since
then. Sigiriya belongs to the Matale district's Wagapanaha Pallesiya area. There is a
moat running around the entire palace. Water pools, gardens, pavements, and
tunnels are some of Sigiriya's most unique creations. The water supply lines that
carry water from the mountain to the top of the rock are a marvelous design that
challenges Western technology. In the past, there were five entrances to the Sigiriya
fortress. Sigiriya has named as the eighth wonder of the world. The design is a classic
example of first-millennium urban planning. The landscape design is considered to
be elegant and well-crafted. The concept of matching and incompatibility seems to
be integrated into the design of the geometric plans and the location of the
surrounding natural objects. Sigiriya is a land of magnificent creations: a mirror wall
that is as smooth as a mirror full of poems and phrases, world-famous frescoes
carrying elegant ladies, a water-works system that still stands today, a huge lion's
footprint at the entrance to the Sigiriya rock, all of which showcase Sigiriya's beauty
and its historical and cultural heritage.

Sacred City of Anuradhapura

The historic city of Anuradhapura which has many historical, ancient and sacred
destinations such as the Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanwelisaya and the huge
Jethavanarama Dagaba and much more. The historical kingdom of Anuradhapura
what we see today was the heart of the prosperous lasted long kingdom of Sri
Lanka. Most of the cultural landmarks including the introduction of Buddhism,
planting of the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi took place in Anuradhapura. Its ancient
glory reflects the reign of hundreds of kings and queens, peaceful and battlefield
experienced ages, temples, water gardens still can be traced from the ruins. The
huge Jetavanarama Dagaba located in Anuradhapura is regarded as the second
largest monument to the Great Pyramid of Giza. And the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi is
the oldest tree with evidence that a man planted.

Old Town of Galle and its Fortifications

The fort at Galle was originally built by the Portuguese who ruled the coastal area
but today face was built during the Dutch period. This fortress was built to
protect the Galle fort, one of the main seaports in the 18th century when they
were ruling the coastal areas of our country. Although the ancient fortress built
inside the Galle Fort was not seen today, the gigantic black walls, the ancient
lighthouse, the stone-lined streets, the clock tower, and ancient architectural
featuring constructions are like the shadow of the colonial era. According to
UNESCO "It is the best example of a fortified city built by Europeans in South and
South-East Asia, showing the interaction between European architectural styles
and South Asian traditions" Despite hundreds of years of sun and rain, the Galle
Fort is still preserved because of conservation efforts. Even the 2004 tsunami did
not do much damage to Galle Fort, which was designed to protect Galle from sea
artillery.

Ancient City of Polonnaruwa

Polonnaruwa is the second kingdom of Sri Lanka. The present sacred city was the
capital city of the Polonnaruwa kingdom. King Parakramabahu the Great's
Parakrama Samudraya (the tank) is the heart of Polonnaruwa. There are many
tanks in addition to Minneriya, Kaudulla and Giritale tank and much more are
preserved even today. One can understand the glory of ancient Polonnaruwa
through the remainings such as Gal Vihara, Polonnaruwa Vatadage, Medirigiriya
Watadageya or Quadrangle, Thivanka Image House and more counts on.
Agriculture in the dry zone is as good as it has been since the irrigation-based
irrigation civilization.

Dambulla Cave Temple

During the English colonial period, Dambulu Viharaya was a center for the
nation's freedom. The participation of the Buddhist monks in the Dambulu Vihara
was significant in the 1818 Kandyan liberation struggle as well as in the
liberation of the country in 1848. Therefore, Dambulla is remarkable throughout
history. Dambulla is Sri Lanka's largest historic cave temple. The murals cover a
region of 2,100 m2 of Kandyan tradition. The Dambulla rock is 330m high. It
spreads on one side as a rock, and on the other, a mountain of wildlife. The cave
temple is built in the area where the stone is spread. On the rock on the plains of
Kurunegala, Sigiriya and Ritigala mountains are beautifully visible. The cave
temple rock is 65m long and 50 acres in size. On the rock climbing over the cave
temple, there are ruins of small stupas and a pond.

Sinharaja Forest Reserve

Sinharaja Forest is considered one of the oldest tropical evergreen rainforest
areas in Sri Lanka and has never been affected by human activities. This is one of
the best biodiversity hotspots with lush green plants, dense bower, internal water
bodies, and streams. Preserved since the past not only the flora, fauna too
sheltered. Endless vines along with the trees, orchid varieties, birds, rare species,
endemic insect species, amphibians, various species of fish that live in pools. The
most significant geological feature of Sinharaja is the presence of a "Sinharaja
Basic Zone" which comprises hornblende pyroclasts, basic charnockites pyroxene
amphibolites and scapolite. The soils of Sinharaja largely belong to the group of
Red Yellow Podzolic soils, with clearly distinguishable horizons of varying soil
depths. The soil is well drained with very little accumulation of organic matter.

Central Highlands

Sri Lanka's Central Highlands of hurrying cascades, diving gorges and tea estates
sticking unstably to soak slopes is a standout amongst the most lovely hilly zones
of the world. In the South-Central piece of the island Sri Lanka's highlands are
located. The property includes the Peak Wilderness Protected Area, the Horton
Plains National Park and the Knuckles Conservation Forest. Being home to an
extraordinary range of verdure and animal species these montane woods, where
the land ascends to 2,500 meters above ocean level. The area includes imperiled
animal varieties, for example, the western-purple-faced langur, the Horton Plains
slender loris and the Sri Lankan Leopard. The area is viewed as a super
biodiversity hotspot.
