Message from The Hon John LEE Ka-chiu, GBM, SBS, PDSM, PMSM Chief Executive Hong Kong Special Administrative Region 香港特別行政區行政長官 李家超先生，大紫荊勳賢，SBS, PDSM, PMSM 獻辭 I am delighted to congratulate the 25 recipients of this year’s Innovation and Technology Scholarship. The winning students are studying at six Hong Kong universities, majoring in a wide variety of subjects. Medicine is well represented, with two students studying Chinese medicine. Others are majoring in the sciences, business and computer science, engineering, construction, the environment and other subjects. Since its establishment in 2011, the Innovation and Technology Scholarship has played an important role in helping young talents pursue their innovation and technology (I&T) aspirations. To date, the programme has awarded scholarships to 325 Hong Kong undergraduates. All 25 winners will be awarded an opportunity to study in the Mainland or overseas and receive a scholarship of up to HK$150,000. Each chosen student possesses a passion for I&T, and will certainly make good use of the wonderful opportunity. I&T is critical to Hong Kong’s future, as an economy and a community. My Government places great importance on developing I&T talent. Primary and secondary schools are supported to enhance Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, and encourage students to cultivate an interest in I&T at an early age. The Government has launched such initiatives as the STEM Internship Scheme and the Research Talent Hub, to support university graduates considering I&T careers. The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and a Cyberport also offer entrepreneurs and potential start-ups a range of support services and incubation programmes. Hong Kong’s need for I&T talent will continue to soar, given our deepening integration into the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Given, too, our National 14th Five-Year Plan and the national support of Hong Kong’s ambition to become an international I&T centre. 衷心祝賀本年度25位「創新科技獎學金」得主。 得獎同學 來自香港六所大學不同學院，當中醫科學生佔最多，有兩 位更是修讀中醫的同學；其他得獎者則主修理科、工商及 計算機科學、工程、建造、環境等課程，涵蓋多個範疇。 「創新科技獎學金」自二零一一年成立以來，一直協助青 年才俊追尋創科夢想，可謂貢獻良多。至今已有325位本 地大學生獲頒發獎學金，得以一展抱負。 得獎的25位同學各可獲得到內地或海外深造的寶貴機會, 以及最多15萬港元的獎學金。我喜見每位同學對創科均充 滿熱誠，相信大家定會抓住機遇，求進求精。 展望未來，創科對香港的經濟和社會發展至關重要。本 屆政府非常重視培育創科人才，一直支持中小學加強 STEM（科學、科技、工程及數學）教育，鼓勵學生從 小培養對創科的興趣。政府亦已推出「創科實習計劃」 及「研究人才庫」等措施，協助有意從事創科工作的大學 畢業生投身相關行業。此外，香港科技園公司及數碼港亦 積極參與其事，為企業家和有潛質的初創企業提供多種支 援服務和培育計劃。 隨着香港深度融入粵港澳大灣區的發展，加上國家「十四 五」規劃已述明支持香港朝國際創新科技中心的目標進 發，我們對創科人才的需求勢必更加殷切。 I am grateful to the organiser, the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, as well as the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation and the Innovation and Technology Commission for their support. The Innovation and Technology (InnoTech) Scholarship appreciates this and is dedicated to nurturing this inspiration by bringing together creative young people from diverse professions, who can join hands to advance the vibrant development of Hong Kong’s InnoTech industry and society as a whole. Talents are the cornerstones that drive the success and sustainable development of society. With the unfailing support of the Innovation and Technology Commission and HSBC for more than a decade, the Innovation and Technology Scholarship organised by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups has nurtured 325 outstanding undergraduates who are passionate about the InnoTech field and willing to contribute to society using their knowledge. The “Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint” promulgated by the HKSAR Government creates the most fertile ground to cultivate I&T talents, while the diversified elite programmes of the Scholarship provide nourishment for them, enabling them to gain first-hand experiences in the industries and develop an international perspective through intellectual exchanges in a variety of disciplines. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all our partners for making this Scholarship a continuing success, including all our mentors, members of the Awardee Selection Committee and Scholarship Administration Committee, as well as various companies and organisations that open their doors for internships. Under the joint sponsorship and support from the Innovation and Technology Commission and HSBC, The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups organises the Thirteenth Scholarship this year. The Scholarship aims to recognise outstanding science undergraduates from local universities. Every year, it selects and awards 25 of the students nominated by the Vice-Chancellors/ Presidents of universities.
