WHO IS FRANK WORRELL? Sir Frank Worrell led an exceptional career as a cricketer from the years of 1948 - 1963, being only second black captain of the West Indies from 1960 and led them to the famous 1961 victory against Australia. Some of his most notable achievements while on the pitch were tallying a totaof 3860 runs in his career, 6th fastest to attain 1000 runs and was named the second greatest all-rounder of his time. After his retirement, he went on to become Warden of Irvine Hall at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus and appointed to the Jamaican Senate by Sir Alexander Bustamante. He was knighted soon after his retirement from cricket in1964. Unfortunately, the formidable and inspiring leader passed away on March 13th, 1967, but his legend continues to live on as the University of the West Indies suitably named its most illustrious hall after him being the Sir Frank Worrell Hall. A bust was placed on the outside of the hall to commemorate his life and the achievements that he had throughout it. SPECIMEN BARBADOS 5 DOLLAR BANKNOTE (SIR FRANK WORRELL) To this day he is celebrated, with the launch of the New Central Bank of Barbados’ New Notes. 2

The Campus is located on 98.12 acres. The main campus is located on 47 acres of elevated scenic property overlooking the capital, Bridgetwon, with further 33 acres of land contiguous to the existing campus, overlookingthe crystal clear, tranquil Caribbean Sea. #%! Conflict Resolution In a Hall of Residence, conflict is inevitable when fellow residents of various backgrounds and characters are brought together for a shared academic purpose. While conflict is normal, particularly in a school setting where there is an awesome amount of stress, it is imperative that it be resolved properly and expeditiously. Failure to properly resolve conflict can result in Residents running afoul of the rules of the Hall, jeopardizing their accommodation and academic future at the Cave Hill Campus. While Residents may be inclined to turn to Hall Administration ("Admin") to settle conflicts, it is best that residents seek alternative remedies to resolve disputes, as Admin can be swift in evicting Residents from the Hall at the first sign of trouble. It is therefore recommended that when conflict arises, Residents turn to the following alternatives: 1.Block Representatives If a conflict arises between two persons of the same Block, the respective Block Representative should be involved as a third party to mediate between the two Residents in hopes of solving the conflict. 2. Constitutional Chair If a conflict arises that: cannot be solved by the Block Representative, involves a member of the Executive Council or a Block Representative, or involves two members of different blocks, the Constitutional Chair will act as a third party to mediate and come to a resolution. 3. Resident Assistant (R.A) The R.A. is Admin's 24-hour on-hall representative whose duty it is to see to the general welfare of the residents and assist in times of conflict or trouble. For grave issues that cannot be dealt with by the above alternatives, or that involve a serious breach of the Hall Rules, then the Resident Assistant is the next person in line to inform of the conflict. As adults, it becomes necessary that we try to resolve conflicts ourselves where it is possible to do so. University is a training ground and it is here that you will learn what type of conflicts are best resolved without a third party and how to go about resolving conflicts without a third party. Persons may contact the R.A. or Constitutional Chairperson for guidance on this. 37

DONTs a) Stealing. Stealing food is a common crime in student halls. Double check with the owner. Chances are they'll tell you to help yourself. b) Noise. You shouldn't make noise that keeps people from sleeping or studying. Be mindful of quiet periods. c) Don't leave items out in the kitchen if you don't want other people to use them. If you are bringing your own things - particularly for the kitchen - be prepared to share them with your housemates. If you're not sure about your items being used daily and potentially not always cleaned, it might be best to pack it away after use. d) Laundry. Refrain from leaving your laundry in the washers and dryers for extended periods. DO NOT remove unattended laundry from washers or dryers without the owner's consent. DOs a) Ask questions. Moving into a new place and living amongst new people can be terrifying. Take a deep breath, and remember that others are just as nervous as you are about being here. When unsure, ask questions and show interest. Residents of Frank Worrell Hall are notably very helpful. Who knows? You might make a friend or two. b) Give people space. People's rooms often morph into hangout spots, which is fine. Try to remember, though, they're also where people get dressed and study. Try to sense when a fellow student is exhausted from socialising - and maybe text instead of knocking. c) Knock. Just do it. 40
