What is the Indian Foreign Service Eligibility

The Group A and Group B Civil Service Officers
generally get recruited as IFS officers serving the

country in building political alliances and
participating in different diplomatic missions.
The IFS service is one of the most prestigious
jobs that Indians do. Below mentioned are the
eligibility criteria for the Indian Foreign Service

Examination.



IFS Eligibility criteria based on Age

The minimum age required is 21 years
The maximum age for appearing is 32 years as of 1st August
in the year of examination.
As for general category students, there is no relaxation of
the upper age limit. For reserved category candidates, the
upper age limit is 37 years for SC/ST candidates and 35 years
for OBC candidates. The age limit is also relaxed up to five
years for candidates belonging to Jammu and Kashmir and
ex-servicemen and commissioned officers from the Indian
Army. Further the age limit is relaxed up to ten years for
physically handicapped candidates appearing for the
examination.

IFS eligibility criteria based on the number of attempts

The candidate must fulfill one of the many criteria mentioned below:
a Citizen of India
b Citizen of Bhutan
c Citizen of Nepal
d Tibetan Citizens who have entered India before January 1, 1962.
e Migrants of the following countries who came to India intending to settle permanently i.e
Pakistan, Kenya, Uganda, Burma, etc.

IFS eligibility based on Educational Qualifications

The candidate applying for the examination must have a
Graduate degree from a recognized University or have
equivalent qualifications.
Apart from these, a candidate wishing to appear from IFS
must necessarily have leadership skills, analytical skills, and
good communication skills. If a candidate qualifies for these
eligibility criteria they definitely have a chance of getting
selected.
