Step by Step Checklist for Searching Open
Acreage
Log on to www.drillinginfo.com – check to see if your desired
area has LandTrac Coverage by: Clicking on the Products &
Features Tab > Products > LandTrac link on the left hand side of
screen > Click to view LandTrac coverage map
If your county DOES have LandTrac Coverage:
Login to DI Site
Click on the Search Tab
Select desired State from the drop down menu at the top of the
Search Wizard Home Page
Choose to Display initial results on MAP (once you are on your
results page, you will have the opportunity to toggle between
map and table)
Increase your truncation limit under the General Search Options
Section
Check the box to perform a PRODUCTION search
Click the “Next” button at the bottom of the Search Wizard
Home page
You will be taken to the Search Wizard Criteria Page, where you
will enter the parameters of your search

Fill in the parameters in which you wish to search by, i.e.,
Desired county, Time period, Operator name, Lease name, etc.
Note: the required sections will be highlighted in
Green
Note: keeping your search broad is typically better for
returning your desired results
Check any additional columns you would like displayed on your
table view, or to utilize for custom color/bubble/annotating
well spots
Select an order by option – i.e., Cum Gas or Cum Oil
Click the FINISH button to return your results
Access additional well data from your map by clicking on the
well spot
Access additional well data from your table by clicking the blue
hyperlinked API number

Map View Steps:
Check the box within the “Map Options” section,
located on the left hand side of the map, which is
labeled LandTracs Leases
Select an option from the “Labels” drop down menu
(annotation, footnotes or no labeling of landtracs)
Select an option from the “Group by” drop down
menu(Grantee, next exp of PT(primary term), or final
exp of PT)
If you chose to group by Grantee:
Click REDRAW MAP button at the bottom of the “Map
Options” section
Notice the LandTrac Lease layer on your map, and a
histogram located to the right hand side of map
Zoom/Scale in around desired area to view
labeling(approximately 3000ft and below)

Isolate expired leases on your map by:
Toggling to table view by clicking the light blue “Table”
button located at the top of the screen
Click on the “LandTrac Lease” layer in the upper left hand
side of your screen, in the RESULTS box
Order the expiration column on your table
Place a check mark beside the first expired lease item and a
check mark beside the last expired lease item
Click the RANGE button, located within the Table Functions
Box at the top of screen
Click on the CHECKED POINTS ONLY button, located within
the Table Display Box at the top of screen
Now click on the MAP button, located within the Views
Section at the top of the screen
DO YOU SEE ANY PRODUCING WELLS ON EXPIRED LEASES?
YES – Possibly this lease is HBP
NO – Click upon the LeaseTrac to open up the Instrument Details Page. Get the
Grantor’s address to make contact about lease status

If you chose to group by Next Exp. of PT or Final Exp. of PT:
Click “REDRAW” button at the bottom of the “Map
Options” section
Notice the LeaseTrac layer on your map, and a
histogram located to the right hand side of map
Zoom/Scale in around desired area to view
labeling(approximately 3000ft and below)
Use the define area tool to create a broader
production and permit search
Zoom out to a desired scale, which displays the
entirety of your desired area

Click once on the DEFINE AREA link, located under the
“Show/Hide Map Tools” menu
Make two point selections on your map. 1. Upper NW
corner of desired area 2. Lower SE corner of desired area
Click on the SEARCH AGAIN light-blue button, located in
the upper left hand side of screen
The Search Wizard Home Page will now display a check box
under the General Search Options section, which activates
your defined area as a search constraint
Choose search elements, such as Permits and Production
Enter parameters on the following criteria pages
Click the FINISH button at the bottom of criteria page to
return results
DO YOU SEE ANY ACTIVE PERMITS OR PRODUCING WELLS ON
EXPIRED LEASES?
YES- Possibly this lease has been renewed or is HBP
NO- Click upon the LeaseTrac to open up the Instrument Details Page. Get the
Grantor’s address to make contact about lease status

Are LandTracs not available in your desired area?
Login to DI Site
Click on the Search Tab
Select desired State from the drop down menu at the top of the
Search Wizard Home Page
Choose to Display initial results on MAP (once you are on your

Check the box to perform a Lease search
Click the “Next” button at the bottom of the Search Wizard
Home page
You will be taken to the Search Wizard Criteria Page, where you
will enter the parameters of your search
Fill in the parameters: i.e.; Choose to return leases by expiration
date from the last 6 months.
Click the FINISH button to return your results

Map View Steps:
Click on the histogram link in the upper right hand
corner of the screen, within the results box
Custom Color/Histogram by Expiration Date
Choose how many bins (histogram colors) you would
like displayed in your map legend
Click the SUBMIT button
Return to map and zoom in tight around your desired
area (3000ft or below)
At a scale of 3000ft or below, click on the Get Offset
Leases Function located on the middle left hand side
of screen
Check to see if there are any offset leases near the
initially returned lease –
Yes – this is not open acreage
No- possible open acreage if there are no
producing wells
If there are NO offset leases:
At a scale of 3000ft or below, click on the Get Offset
Wells Function located on the middle left hand side of
screen
Click on the light blue TABLE VIEW button at the top
of the screen

Click on the “Lease” layer hyperlink, located in the
upper left hand corner of the screen, within the
RESULTS Box
Order your expiration column
Place a check mark beside the first expired lease and
a check mark beside the last expired lease in the
column
Click the RANGE button, located within the Table
Functions Box at the top of screen
Click on the CHECKED POINTS ONLY button, located
within the Table Display Box at the top of screen
Click on the “Offset Well layer hyperlink” located in
the upper left hand corner of the screen, within the
RESULTS Box
Order your First Production column
Place a check mark beside the first well that has had
production and a check mark beside the last well that
has had production

Click the RANGE button, located within the Table
Functions Box at the top of screen
Click on the CHECKED POINTS ONLY button, located
within the Table Display Box at the top of screen
Now click on the MAP button, located within the
Views Section at the top of the screen
ARE THERE ANY PRODUCING WELLS WITHIN THE EXPIRED
LEASE’S ACREAGE?
YES- Possibly this lease is HBP
NO – Click upon the Lease spot to open up the Instrument Details Page.
Get the Grantor’s address to make contact about lease status
