ICT IN EYP
During the early years, students are exposed to iPad application. They
learn various apps and basics of computers. Students get a chance
to solve a puzzles through an online tool. Moving further, we
support our young learners’ development of computational thinking
beginning with algorithmic thinking – following a series of steps to
solve a problem. Recently they were introduced to robotics through
Bee-Bots via an application and once they were ready, we
introduced them with a bot.

ICT IN EYP

Shaping Young Learners to be the fountain of change for the world to progress, is the core ethos of
International Learning.

An early exposure to iPad application is a rigor that is followed, with the intent to help young learners be
equipped and updated on the latest available apps and basics of computers.

What IB Says:
ICT is not a subject, it is a tool in PYP. Effective integration of ICT enhances the learner’s opportunity to connect globally
and to explore different perspectives so that they understand the evolving culture and social norms. All the teachers
working with PYP students will find that the ICT skills will be relevant to the transdisciplinary programme of inquiry as well
as to subject-specific inquiries. The following six ICT skills are relevant to all learners: investigating, creating,
communicating, collaborating, organizing and becoming responsible digital citizens. In a globally connected digital world,
learners are empowered to be responsible for their actions, to value others’ rights and to practise safe and legal
behaviors.
Role of technology in the PYP:
Just like things are changing at a fast rate, so are human getting evolved. In order to compete in the present world, we
need to find ways to take on those challenges. Gone are those days when a child excelling in academics can easily secure
a place in a good university. To secure a good career and a better life, children need to have some skills which give them
an edge. We start preparing our students from early years so that they are prepared to take on the challenges. IB is a
dynamic curriculum and we integrate our unit, not only with the subject but, to deepen their understanding of the topic,
we map the unit with all the specialists. Technology integration and implementation start with the introduction of the
unit. As the unit progress, we try to implement at least one line of inquiry with the tool. It helps to monitor, document,
measure, and report on the learning of a child. It also strengthens inquiry. Only in cases where the unit cannot be
integrated with other subjects do we teach that particular unit in isolation to the students.
Technology in the PYP immerses students in the interplay between learning technology, learning about technology and
learning through technology.

Role of technology in the PYP:

The world of ‘today’ do not give space for complacency. In a world that is rapidly changing and evolving, new paths are carved out, every
moment. Dynamism and skill set, thus needs to be inculcated in young learners, so that they are equipped to handle such challenges.
Such skill sets helps in securing a place in a globally acclaimed university, opening up a plethora of opportunities.

ICT IN PYP
Students are well prepared with the operation of devices and
tools by the time they come to the primary. We integrate a tool
with the unit with thoughtful and intentional planning to ensure
it matches with the learning goals. We exposed them to various
apps on video making, comic making, storytelling, voice-overs,
MS-Office, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, educational
games, forms, paint and poster making. To instill international
mindedness we connect our learners to students, teachers and
experts worldwide through video conferencing (Skype). It helps
students to voice in learning and help to nurture learner profile
attributes (communication and open-mindedness).

ICT IN PYP

In an effort to integrate and prepare young learners as a global citizen; effective and
relevant tools are integrated with the units of study.

Though Students are well prepared with the operation of devices and tools by the time they
come to the primary, the thoughtful and intentional planning ensures that the same
matches with learning goals.

The interactive and playful exposure to various apps on video making, comic making,
storytelling, voice-overs, MS-Office, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, educational
games, forms, paint and poster making, helps in achieving the goal.

Learners are connected to students, teachers and experts worldwide through video
conferencing (Skype), inspiring learners to be gathers of knowledge and not gathers of
information; as is done in the traditional environment.

Specific traits like developing voice in learning and enhancement in the nurturing of learner
profile attributes (communication and open-mindedness) are thus triggered.

PYP Teachers
At DPSI, we make sure that our teachers are updated with the latest
know-how of the technology. In order to do that we are always
conducting in-house training for our teachers’ and keeping them abreast
with the tools which can help them to teach easily.

Students were introduced to a physical bot called "Bee-
Bot". They learnt how to move the bot in the forward,
backward, left, right direction and clear the previous
instructions using the command buttons.

Students had fun exploring an online activity
where in they reiterated the concept of place
values while integrating with math.

Students explored educational Students used their logical thinking to solve puzzles

in joining the dots and colouring.

Students were introduced to programming
using Kodable app on iPad where they
thought logically and enhanced their
computational thinking by learning to work
through problems step by step.

Students revisited the concept of addition and
strengthen their mouse control skills using an
interesting online activity on laptop.

Students made life cycle of a butterfly
using book creator by adding pictures ,
shapes and text. They recapitulated the life
cycle and wrote few sentences stating the
entire process.

Skype session enhances International mindedness. Student gets chance to interact with children
around the world through Skype and they exchanged their learning by presenting their
understanding of the topic ‘Homes’.
