A short story about family family was a huge headache. He was never alone

love and felt bothered by everyone. One day, his family

had to attend a wedding in the nearby town. Keith was not so interested. “I have lots of work to

complete and tomorrow is my football practice that I cannot miss at any cost,” said Keith. At first,

Mom and Dad did not want to leave Keith alone at home. But since he insisted a lot, his family

decided it was best to leave him alone. Keith was finally alone at home and wanted to enjoy the

day with his friends. He called up his friends to come to his house, but no one was available. An

hour later, his best friend Jake, stopped by and the two of them decided to go get a pizza. They got

on their bicycles and began racing. Unfortunately, on the way, Keith and Jake met with an

accident. He fainted, and on waking up, found himself in the hospital with a fractured leg. Jake

called Keith’s parents. The doctor let Keith go and he was taken back to his house. Dad was angry

at him for lying. Mom, however, convinced Dad not to scream at him. Soon, Keith began to see a

different side of his family. His Dad bought him magazines, books and games to keep him busy.

Mom cooked for him all of his favorite dishes and made sure he took his medicines on time. His

sister gave him massages whenever he was in pain, while his grandparents told him stories of all

the mischief they had done when they were his age. His cousins played games with him whenever

he felt bored and his youngest brother brought him work from school to keep him updated. He

started feeling happier in his environment. Keith felt happy to be a part of the family. “What

would I have done without them?” said Keith. “They have helped me heal back and I just cannot

imagine how I would have gone through this pain alone.” “Their support did not let me feel like a

handicap, I am so sorry Dad for lying. But this accident showed me the real meaning of a big,

happy family.” Since that accident, Keith no longer complained about living with his family.

1.What is your opinion on online shopping?
2.Have you tried online shopping?

An example dialogue about online shopping between two persons in an interview.
Julia: Good morning to you, Diana. How are you?
Diana: Good morning to you too, Julia. I am fine, thank you.
Julia: As we both know, today we will discuss about online shopping. Diana, can you tell me how does online
shopping works?
Diana: In my view, you would require an internet access, a debit or credit card and a safe password. You will
also need an email address or a cell phone number. Most stores are going to encourage you to set up your
password. Be sure it is a secret that no one can guess. Then, click through the items the store is selling.
Often, they may include a list of categories, such as furniture, athletic equipment, gardening and so on.
Many stores also have search services. This ensures that you can write the name of the item you're looking
for and see whether they have it.
Julia: I see your point. Can you tell me what is the advantages of online shopping?
Diana: Firstly, it is very easy to buy from where you're located. Second, with ever-increasing petrol costs,
internet shopping saves both the cost of commuting to shops and the cost of parking. You can also save time
by avoiding standing in line, particularly on holidays, when the stores are busy.
Diana: I see. Thank you for explaining about it, Diana. We have come to the end of this interview. Thank you
for coming and I hope to see you again.

Subject : My Solo Trip to London

Recipient's Name : Dear ____________

Body of the Email
Point 1 : The opening paragraph should set the tone and reason for your email.

How are you and your family back in Malaysia? I hope everyone is in good and healthy
condition over there. I am writing this email to share my experience of travelling alone for the
very first time in my life. I am currently in London, England.

Point 2 : Include activites, interesting tourist attraction with explanation.

I arrived in London a day ago. The flight took 13 hours and fortunately there were no
turbulence because that would make me sick. I rented a bed and breakfast as I'll be here for a
week. The place is nice and spacious for its price.

Yesterday, I went for a stroll around the park and the weather was nice. The sun was out
bright and shining. Different than the movies where its always raining and gloomy. They had a
small art and antique market. I saw alot of arts and I bought you a handmade mug which I
know you would love. I even went on the iconic double decker bus as it helps tourist explore
London in a more convenient way. I saw the famous Big Ben and even asked a stranger to take
a picture of me with it. I made few friends on the bus and it was fun!

Today I am planning to visit the Buckingham Palace. I would like to see London's most
popular display, which is The Changing of Guards that happens at 11:30am. They say that the
guards would never move even an inch. I might want to try to scare them to see if its a myth or
fact. I have also plan to ride The London Eye. It is said that is a must as it is popular among
tourists.

Point 3 : The closing of the email should also support the nature of your email.

Well, it was great to share this experience with you. Do let me know if you and your family
want any souvenir before I leave next week. Send my hugs and regards to your parents. I'll pay
you a visit once I reach Malaysia. Take care.

WHAT IS ZERO WASTE LIFESTYLE?

The simple answer:

We aim to send nothing to a landfill.
We reduce what we need, reuse as much as we

can, send little to be recycled, and compost
what we cannot.

The less simple answer:

It’s really about changing our lifestyle system. We currently live in
a linear system, where we take resources from the earth and then

dump them in a giant hole in the ground (landfill).

The goal of zero waste lifestyle is to change to a circular lifestyle
system where we actually don’t have “trash’’ and there is no need for
a landfill. The circular system mimics nature in that there is no trash

in nature. Instead of throwing away resources, we create a system
where all resources can be fully given back into the nature without

harming it.

SCENARIO

In an effort to reduce plastic waste, you and your friend began using and bringing
your own tumbler when you go out. However, when you requested your drinks
to be in your personal tumblers instead of the disposable cups, it was refused by
the staff at the local cafe. You will now write an email to the manager to explain
the impact that disposable cups have on the environment and suggest that
customers should be given the option to use their own personal tumbler.

FORMAT

Subject: THE IMPORTANCE OF REDUCING PLASTIC WASTE BY LOCAL CAFES

Dear Sir/Madam

Points:
Explain what happened at the cafe and when it happened. Try to be as detailed as possible :
I am writing this email because……

Explain how disposable cups contributes to plastic pollution. You may use these points in
your email:

It is not recyclable because the paper cups are lined with plastic to make it waterproof,
they will end up in the landfill.
The recycling of some paper cups are expensive that most companies just choose
to throw it away as it is cheaper.
Millions of these cups are thrown away everyday after a single use. Some of these
cups enter the river and oceans which can endanger the animals that will think these
plastics are food.

Provide suggestions to the cafe. You may use these points in your email:

Serve drinks for dining-in customers in reusable mugs/cups.
For takeaway, offer customers the options to use their own personal tumbler.
Encourage customers to use their own tumblers as much as possible. This will
help to save money from buying disposable cups and will also help save the
environment.

End the email with:
Thank you for your kind attention, I hope to see some positive changes from the cafe in
the near future. Although it’s a small change, let’s do our part to protect the environment.

Kind regards,

The Malaysian Entreprenuers Festival

Keropok Amplang Bikmie (Amplang Bikmie crackers), an iconic product of Tawau, has the
potential to be marketed internationally, said Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of
Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Christina Liew. She said her Ministry through the
Sabah Tourism Board (STB) will assist in efforts to promote this traditional fish-flavoured
local product outside of Malaysia. It is understood that there is a demand for the Amplang
Bikmie snack among consumers in countries like Singapore and Australia. Currently, Rosmie
Snack Industry Sdn Bhd (RSI) exports Amplang Bikmie crackers under the brand name of
Bikmie to Peninsular Malaysia, apart from being sold here and in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan,
Lahad Datu and Semporna.

The new factory has a production capacity of 600 kilos of Amplang Bikmie snacks per day.
Bikmie is the abbreviation for Bibik Rosmie, the late pioneering producer of Amplang Bikmie
crackers in Tawau, whose son Rozekin Suratman, 39, is now the Director of RSI. Liew said
RSI’s ability to survive for more than 30 years in the food industry is a success story which
should be emulated by other companies. “RSI has generated job opportunities and
contributed to the economic growth of Sabah in general and Tawau in particular. Kudos to
the company for being the main pioneer in commercialising Amplang crackers which have
stood the test of time. “Amplang Bikmie snack has maintained itself as a symbol of Tawau
being the first district in Sabah to commercialise this product. “As MP for Tawau, I am proud
that the district has produced yet another successful Bumiputera entrepreneur who is taking
the production of Amplang Bikmie to the next level,” she said when officiating at the opening
of the new Amplang Bikmie Keropok Factory at Taman Unipark, Saturday. The Minister
encouraged Rozekin to set up a product sales and showroom in the vicinity of the factory.
“This can be a new tourist attraction in addition to other hotspots in Tawau.

A visit to this place of interest can be included in the Cuti-cuti Tawau tour packages in
collaboration with tour operators,” she suggested, adding that the snack can be given as a
welcome gift to tourists upon arrival in Tawau. In this respect, Liew said, RSI must be ready
to meet tourists’ foreseeable demand for the Amplang Bikmie snack. Meanwhile, she
presented certificates of appreciation to nine government departments and agencies for
having contributed to the success of RSI. They were Tawau Vocational College, Mara,
Pertubuhan Peladang (Farmers’ Organisation), Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority
(Fama), Department of Industrial Development and Research (DIDR), Ko-Nelayan, Fisheries
Department, Sirim and SME Corp. In his address, Rozekin, a father of three, paid tribute to
his mother who passed away last year at the age of 66, saying her accomplishment had
inspired him to carry on the family business. “My late Mum came up with a special home-
made recipe and this has since become the family’s heritage.” In 1985, Bibik Rosmie started
the fish cracker production as a cottage industry when her son was only five years old. It was
only in 2001 that Rosmie Bersaudara was set up as an enterprise for small-scale production to
cater for the Tawau market. Two years ago, Rosmie Snack Industry Sdn Bhd (RSI) was
incorporated to commercialise the product on a bigger scale.

Dear Jane,

How are you? I am doing well. Regarding where you should go for your holiday,
I would suggest that you and your family go to Cameron Highlands.

I went there with my lovely family a couple of weeks ago and the place is very
pleasant. Boh Tea Plantation is amongst the most prominent destinations in the
country. You're going to walk and learn about how tea is treated in the plantation.
The landscape, too, is amazing. Make sure to take lots of photographs for
keepsake.

In addition, you can also go to the strawberry farms there. You should
collect strawberries by hand and eat freshly made strawberry ice cream
with waffles. I can definitely guarantee you that the texture of the ice
cream is so fantastic.

A nature lover like you can go to the Butterfly Farm, in which you'll find several
different kinds of insects and animals living there. In addition, you can tell your
mother to go to the markets to buy fresh vegetables, fruit and flowers. I know
that Aunt Julie likes all these stuff.

I hope my suggestion can help you out. Send my regards to your family.
Take care.

Your friend,
Aurora
