Canvas Quick Tips Logging in to Canvas

Complete the following steps to log in to Canvas.

1. Open your Internet Browser. (We suggest
using Chrome browser for the best experi-
ence.)
2. Navigate to K-Cloud.
www.kcloud.kellerisd.net
3. Log in using your ID number and pass-
word.
4. Click the magnifying glass in
the top left corner.
5. Start typing Canvas into the
box.

6. When you see the Canvas icon, click it.

Canvas Quick Tips Loading a Course Template

Complete the following steps to load a course template.

1. Go online to Canvas: kellerisd.instructure.
com.
2. Log in using your Keller ISD email and
password.
3. Click the Commons link in the top menu.

4. Click the Courses icon in the center menu.

5.Scroll back to the top ssearch bar.
6. Type Keller in the search.

7. Only the courses shared with Keller ISD
will show in the results posted below. Look
for the KISD Template that you would like to
load into your Canvas course.
8. Once you find the template you like, click
on it.

Complete the following steps to load a course template.

9. Choose the course you would
like to import the template into
by clicking on the course title.

10. Click the Import into Course
button.

11. Your template is now in your
course. Open your course and see
your new template.

Canvas Quick Tips Creating Modules

Complete the following steps to create a module in Canvas.

1. Log in to Canvas.
2. Choose a course to work in from the
Courses and Groups drop-down menu.
3. Choose Modules from the left menu of the
course.

4. Choose +Module in the top right cor-
ner of the modules screen.
5. Type the Module Name in the box.
6. Click Add Module.
7. Be sure to Publish your module by
clicking the gray cloud after creating it so
your students can see the module.

8. To add items to your module,
click the + button by the module.

9. A box will open. You can click
the arrow to see the drop-down
menu to see the list of items you can
add to your module.

Complete the following steps to create a module in Canvas.

10. Choose the type of item you would like to
add to the module.
11. Click New.
12. Choose a file or name your item.
13. Click Add.

14. The item is now added to your module.
15. If you need to edit the item, click the title
of the item to open and edit.
16. Be sure the item is Published so that stu-
dents can see the item.

Canvas Quick Tips Creating Announcements

Complete the following steps to create an announcement in
Canvas.

1. Log in to Canvas.
2. Choose a course to work in from the
Courses and Groups drop-down menu.
3. Choose Announcements from the left
menu.
4. Choose +Announcement in the center
of the screen.

5. Complete the Add Announcement
screen as shown below.

6. Your announcement is now posted. Students and parents will receive
a notification by their preferred method.

To connect a parent on Canvas:

1. Open a web browser. We recommend Chrome for the best experience.
2. Navigate to
https://kellerisd.instructure.com.
3. You will know you arrived at the correct address when you see the log in screen
with the Keller ISD logo.
4. Click the parent banner on the right side.

5. Fill in the form that pops up.

6. Watch your email for an email that confirms your account and allows you to set
up your password. You cannot log in to Canvas until you have set up your pass-
word.
7. Once you have set up your password, you can return to
https://kellerisd.instructure.com to log in to your account.

To connect a parent on Canvas:

To Add Additional Students to your Account:
1. Log in to your parent account on Canvas.
2. Click the settings icon in the top right corner.
3. Once the settings menu opens, click the Observing icon in the left menu.

4. Fill in the username and password of the additional student.
5. Click the +Student button.

Canvas Quick Tips Using an Embed Code in a Page

Complete the following steps to embed a video or other
web item into a content page.

1. Go online to Canvas: kellerisd.instruc-
ture.com.
2. Log in using your Keller ISD email
and password.
3. Click a course to work in from the
Courses drop down menu at the top.
4. Click pages

5. If you see the list with all the pages,
move to step 6. Click the View All Pages
button.

6. Click +Pages button in the top right
corner to open a new page.
7. Give your new page a title and start
entering content into your new page.

8. When you get to the point on your
page where you would like to embed
content, type a title for the embed-
ded content. (This is to help you
load in a later step.)

9. Open a new tab in your web
browser and navigate to the page
with the content you want to embed.

Canvas Quick Tips Using an Embed Code in a Page

Complete the following steps to embed a video or other
web item into a content page.

10. Anything that has an embed code, can be
embedded into a content page. Examples are
Padlet, Khan Academy videos, Thinglink,
Prezi, etc.
11. Find the Share button.
12. Click Share. Then click Embed.

13. A box will open with an embed
code. Highlight and copy the entire
code.

14. Click back to your Canvas content page
you were working on.
15. Click HTML Editor in the top right.

Canvas Quick Tips Using an Embed Code in a Page

Complete the following steps to embed a video or other
web item into a content page.

16. Look through the code to
find the Video title that you add-
ed to your content page earlier.
17. Once you find the link with
your video title, put your cursor
at the end of the line and press
enter.

18. Paste the embed code you
copied.
19. Scroll down to the bottom of
your page and click Save.

20. Your video/item is now em-
bedded in your page and ready for
use.

Canvas Quick Tips Adding Students to a Course

Complete the following steps to add students to a course.

1. Go online to Canvas: kellerisd.instructure.
com.
2. Log in using your Keller ISD email and
password.
3. Click the Courses drop down from the top
menu.
4. Choose the course that you would like to
add students to.

5. Using the left side menu, click Settings.

6. Once the settings screen opens, scroll down
the page to the bottom.
7. Click More Options.
8. Once the More Options menu opens, check
the first line.

Complete the following steps to add students to a course.

9. Scroll down and make sure to
hit Update Course Details.

10. Once the page saves, scroll
down to the bottom again and you
will see the Join URL.
For Example:

to share with the people that you
would like to add to your course as
students. You can email the link ot
them or create a QR code using the
link.

Complete the following steps to save a course to the
Commons.

1. Go online to Canvas: kellerisd.instructure.
com.
2. Log in using your Keller ISD email and
password.
3. Click on the course you would like to save
in the Courses drop down menu at the top.
4. Click the Settings button in the left menu.

5. Once you are in the set-
tings menu, click Share to
Commons in the right menu.

6. Fill in the Commons form that
opens.
7. When you get to the bottom of the
page, click:
Share with: Only me
8. Click Share to Commons.

Canvas Quick Tips Saving A Course to the Commons

Complete the following steps to save a course to the
Commons.

To Add the Course into a New Course:
1. Click the Commons link in the top menu.
4. Click the Courses icon in the center menu.

5. Click the drop down arrow next to Shared
with.
6. Choose My Private Resources.

7. Only the courses shared to yourself will
show in the results posted below. Look for
the course you just saved to the Commons in
the previous steps.
8. Once you find the course you would like to
use, click on it.

Complete the following steps to save a course to the
Commons.

9. Click the Import into Course
button.

10. Choose the course you would
like to import the template into by
clicking on the course title.

11. Your previous course is now
in your new course. Open your
course and you are all set.
**Please note: If you have many
items in the course you are load-
ing, it may take a few minutes to
load into the new course.
