What is an “LLC”?
Living
Learning Center
Living on campus isn’t just about housing - it’s about the whole college experience. Living learning communities are comprised of scholars who share similar interests and broaden your life at Indiana University, academically, socially, and personally.
Students in these communities have the opportunity to partake in academic experiences with their peers and interact with faculty and staff, reaping the benefits of being part of a diverse community that shares scholarly interests. Each community is associated with a number of campus partners and student organizations, allowing students the opportunity to engage in additional activities that enhance their overall collegiate experience. The goal is for students to gain necessary skills, which will aid them in their future endeavors. Students become a part of a close-knit community which supports academic success, leadership development, cultivates safe and supportive environments, encourages personal growth, fosters social responsibility, and enhance life-long connections at Indiana University and beyond.

Life in the Luddy LLC
The Luddy Living Learning Center provides much more than just housing! Our LLC provides unique experiences and opportunities that many traditional first-year students do not get. Additionally, students gain a professional mentor in the field of technology and engineering, interact with faculty through Fireside Chats, gather monthly, as a cohort, in a student led community townhall meeting, connect with employers leading to internships and full-time jobs, and a lot more fun, innovative activities throughout the year. Our community embodies four pillars: true community, service, mentorship/growth, and rites of passage.
To further, expand and develop professional relationships, the LLC
visits various technology hubs, including Indianapolis, Chicago, and
San Francisco, through Tech Tours to meet with some of the world’s largest corporations and learn about how technology is being utilized in various professional fields. However, our LLC students work hard and play harder. Our LLC staff and Luddy LLC Executive Leadership Council are constantly developing programming to help increase socialization and a family dynamic. Furthermore, events range from HTML and CSS workshops to gingerbread cookie making competitions in our exclusive LLC kitchen. Our community focuses on enhancing high-impact practices and reserach-driven experiences.

Exclusive Makerspace
Located in the first floor of Teter Rabb, the LLC Makerspace is one of the biggest perks of living in our community. This area is open 24 hours a day to LLC residents essentially becoming your hub for innovation and collaboration. Student typically use this area to mingle with peers, study, play games, and connect with classwork or assignments. The wide array of equipment includes, but is not limited to, five Ultimaker 3D printers, a Trotec laser cutter and engraver, ventilated soldering stations, and various shop and electronic tools. While IU has other makerspaces on campus, this caters to our LLC members as it’s easy to access. The convenience of having this technology and equipment accessible at all hours and only a simple elevator ride away cannot be overstated, encouraging our students to make the most of their many skills while having fun!
Leadership Opportunities
The Luddy LLC Executive Leadership Council is a great opportunity to get involved, growing and showcasing your leadership skills. In your time on the council, you’ll be supplied with plenty of opportunities to represent and advocate for the interests and concerns of your peers. You’ll also learn how to plan, prepare, and execute social and educational events, work in collaboration with the LLC Associate Director and Graduate Assistant, gain knowledge through professional development experiences, and bond with your fellow Executive Board members.

Teter Quadrangle
Teter Quadrangle, simply referred to as Teter Residence Hall, is located in the heart of campus, also known as the Central Neighborhood, and as a result students can access the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering as it
is in walking distance and bike-friendly. If you’re looking for some quick dining hall options, Wright Court is only a minute away from where you live. Additionally, the Wright C-Store is also accessible to students providing food options, snacks, or even everyday necessities, you will be able to find them there. Furthermore, right across from Teter, on the other side of 10th Street, you can find pizza, frozen yogurt, sandwiches, and much more. The Student Recreation Sports Center (SRSC) isn’t a far walk either. In addition, Herman B. Wells Library is nearby where you can go to study, read books, get food, or just relax.

and other pertinent resources to help you remain successful. All floors connected to the LLC are co-ed, double-style suites. The bathrooms on each floor are private communal: meaning that each floor shares single occupancy restrooms with shared sinks. From its location to its facilities, living in the Luddy Living Learning Center is sure to impress and create a great first-year experience! Technology, Leadership, and Innovation I/II
As a member of the next Luddy LLC cohort, you will have the opportunity to take two, 1.5-credit courses focused around professional and personal development: INFO-Y 101 (taken in the Fall semester) and INFO-Y 102 (taken in the Spring semester).
The courses focuses on the development of scholars by providing resources and tools to empower these students in setting goals, enhancing soft-skills, teamwork/ collaboration, communication, and decision-making processes. Students will also have the opportunity to interact and foster relationships with the faculty, staff, alumni, and upperclassmen within the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering.

The courses are centered around a Design and Development project, which links both courses together, becoming a bridge partnership to ServeIT. Students will have the opportunity to work with real-life clients, within the state of Indiana, developing a solution based tech project. At the end of the Spring semester, students will present their findings and recommendations to their client, in a tech gallery.

Student Spotlights
Sid Rath
Hometown: Miami, FL | Major: Computer Science (Specialization in Data Science)
Sid was the President of the third cohort of the Luddy Living Learning Center. Originally planning on living in standard housing, Sid saw the opportunity of the Luddy LLC and fell in love with the facilities and opportunities. Whether he was working on homework or managing an event for the community, he was always surrounded by those who shared similar outlooks and viewpoints, allowing Sid to make friends on day one at Indiana University. Aside from making ever-lasting friendships, the personal and professional development opportunities within the community allowed Sid to continue his leadership within the Luddy school by starting multiple student organizations, being a member of multiple student committees, and becoming a resource for fellow Luddy and LLC students to come to.
Shannon Kerr
Hometown: Detroit, Michigan | Major: Intelligent Systems Engineering (Concentration in Bioengineering)
Shannon is a member of the fourth cohort of the Luddy Living Learning Center. She joined the LLC because she liked the idea of living with a community of students who were pursuing similar majors and shared common interests. Shannon was attracted to the facilities offered, including the makerspace and kitchen. Serving on the Luddy LLC Executive Leadership Council, as a Vice-President, has been her favorite part about living in the community.
She has had a blast brainstorming and creating events to help draw the community closer together. She has also enjoyed being apart of the community as she has created friendships that have helped her adjust effortlessly to college, work on projects, and homework, while sharing memories that will last a lifetime.
