The Presidential Race FINAL

The Presidential Race FINAL

By: Shae Dunkum, Anjiya Fazlani, Isa Capocelli, Emma Cooper

Hi, my name is
Scarlet!
I am 11 years old.

When I was a baby my spinal chord
didn’t form correctly so I am

paralyzed from the waist down.

FACT:
I have Spina Bifida.

I am in sixth grade and love
everything about school but my

favorite subject is history.

In United States History Mrs. Williams
teaches us all about America! My favorite

part is learning about the presidents.

That’s Washington D.C.!
Where the president lives.

My favorite president was the thirty second,
Franklin D. Roosevelt
Why you might ask?

FACT:
He was the first
president to fly

in a plane

He was handicapped just like I am, that
means he was in a wheelchair too.

FDR had a disease called polio that eventually
paralyzed him from the waist down.

Fact:
99% of the
world is now
polio free

Mr. Roosevelt was a great leader and passed
many laws that helped our country be like

it is today.

FDR had inspired me to start my own
presidential race,

but since I am in a wheelchair certain things will
be more difficult for me…

Like getting through doorways or halls in
historical buildings because they are not all

handicapped accessible.

I need to use
ramps like
this one

Another struggle would be making speeches
behind a podium and gaining respect from

the people voting.

Also I am a woman and there has never been a
female president before.

FACT:
Two Women ran for
president in 2016

Despite these challenges and the many
others I will face, I believe that if I set my
mind to it I can accomplish anything!

I have to keep learning, working hard, and not
letting anything stand in my way.

Next time you see me I’ll be rolling into the Oval
Office that has my name on the desk.
