Northgate WELCOME

Foundation

Dear Northgate Families,

As we all know, this has been one of the toughest financial times for public schools in history,

both because of the economic uncertainties at a national level, and the budget crisis in

MDUSD. Sadly, in many instances, our kids are paying the price.

That’s why it has been so refreshing for me personally to look back at the past couple of
years for Northgate Community Pride Foundation. Thanks to the generosity of our donors,
we have been able to continue to build a better Northgate. Last year we opened our beautiful
Field of Dreams -- the NHS Sports Complex with a state-of-the-art, all-weather track. With
the approval of the EIR, we are close to seeing the installation of lights and bleachers, and
other improvements are on the way.

Still, what I am most proud of this

that will help our dance students reach new heights. And it shows that NCPF is committed to

all programs at Northgate Schools.

The one thing we must all keep in mind every day is the importance of non-academic and
extra curricular activities for our students. Programs like sports, music and the performing
arts provide a wonderful complement to the high academic standards of Northgate – and it’s
our job to help the kids get what they deserve.

Join me in congratulating our students, faculty and staff for the work they do in the
classrooms, and commiting ourselves to helping the students make healthy choices when they
leave their desks and shut their books. NCPF will continue to support our kids any way we
can, but we still need your help. We realize the economy is still unsteady, and checks may be
hard to write. But it is up to us to help our students succeed.

So this summer, take a moment to consider your commitment to our Northgate community
by supporting NCPF. With your help, all our students will have a chance to reach new heights.

NORTHGATE PRIDE TAKES
ON SMALLER PROJECTS TOO!

Not all capital improvements our schools need are large projects that require years of fund raising. At the Northgate Community
Pride Foundation (NCPF) we have formed a new strategic initiative to take on smaller projects utilizing our expertise in working
through the school district and our fund raising abilities. The Dance Studio improvements at Northgate High School this year was
NCPF’s first successful small project. Our mission is to improve all schools in the Northgate community, and we would like to reach
out to parents at Walnut Acres, Valley Verde and Foothill and develop relationships with groups who want to work on small capital
improvements. These parent groups combined with Northgate Pride’s experience can lead to successful improvements for all of our
schools. Please contact Kara Navalio at [email protected] if you are interested in forming a committee for a small project.

Annual Giving

We believe that regular, annual giving can help as part of the solution for public
schools in this new economic reality of reduced state funding. An annual giving
program that is funded by parents of students in the neighborhood schools as well
as community and business members creates an endowment fund. This endowment
fund allows for long-range planning and execution of projects, independent of a
capital campaign. Of course, specific capital campaigns would still occur periodically
as is typical when major fundraising is required; e.g. the Aquatics Center. However,
these capital campaigns would occur infrequently, as major projects occur less
frequently than ongoing facility needs.

WHAT DOES ANNUAL GIVING REALLY MEAN?
The annual giving contribution levels are based on the number of children each
family has in our neighborhood schools as well as the location: high school, middle
school and elementary. This method of sustainable fundraising has been
very successful in many communities similar to ours.

What Are The Suggested Levels Of Giving?

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENT: $150 PER STUDENT

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT: $250 PER STUDENT

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT: $350 PER STUDENT

Ways to Give Community members and businesses also have suggested giving levels which appear
on the enclosed contribution envelope.

Donations may be made using your Visa or MC. Your pledge in support of the

up to three years. At your request, a pledge reminder can be sent for each payment.
