a LETTER FROM
written by mr.spinner | designed by ambria herring ‘22
Dear Class of 2021,
As your principal, I wanted to let you know how proud I am of all of you and also wanted yet
another opportunity to say "Thank you." Thank you for a great 3 years here at Berlin! We
all know that the last year and a third has not been the same as it was your first year and the
beginning of last year, but we cannot change that. Also, I am here to say that you made the best
of it! We always say, "Control what you can control", and you did just that.
With that being said, I want to thank you for buying into everything here at 3140BSR. The alma
mater, the pep rallies, standing for the fight song, double blue Fridays, absolutely all of it!!
You could have said, "No, I am not doing those things or participating in that club, etc." If you
would have done that however, you could be at any high school. However, you bought in, and
that is why OBHS is such a special place.
Many people say that I created the culture and the climate. That is not 100% true. I did put
things into place and drew up the plans, but YOU carried them out. You wore the Double Blue.
You stood and clapped for the fight song. You stood shoulder to shoulder for the alma mater. You
took pictures by the bear inside and outside. You did the bear bump with the claws up. You
answered me with "It’s Forever," when I said "Berlin Pride." You made sure you did not step on
the Bear in the hallway. You did all of those things and more. So, for that, thank you!
Also, I want to thank you for leading by example. You showed our underclassmen how to do
things the right way, and you responded to our coaches, our teachers, advisors, administrators,
directors and staff when they directed you in a certain way or direction, so thank you. You did
everything that we asked you to do and you followed the mantra of "Leaders Lead!"

So, I wish you all nothing but the best as you get ready to start this new chapter in your life.
Before closing up my comments though, I want to say 3 things:
1 - Finish the year strong and do not get off course. Stay the course. You have come too far to get
off track now and put yourself in a bad light.
2 - Focus on all the great things that you have been a part of here at Berlin and all of the things
you have done to make this the special place it is today!
3 - You always have a home at 3140BSR! Do not forget about us, and while you are doing
all of those great things next year, maybe shoot us an email or post an update on Twitter or
Instagram. If you Snapchat it, we will not see it because we are not sure how that works ;)
Thank you, Claws up, and always remember.......BERLIN PRIDE....
IT'S FOREVER!!

Erin johnson:
Attending OBHS for only three years has taught me so much about high school life. I started off as an awkward freshman at
Olentangy High School, not taking part in any activities or social events. Then, Berlin opened up the beginning of my sophomore
year. With all of the new programs opening, I became involved in many extra curriculars in Berlin from theater to NHS,
journalism, and many others. These activities helped me grow in my interests and also allowed me to meet so many wonderful
people. One program in specific was the Berlin theater program. I have been involved in theater since I was 11, only doing acting
until sophomore year. Then I was put into the makeup crew for a fall show in my junior year. I ended up enjoying the crew so much
that I stuck with it until I graduated; from makeup crew, to lights and even stage managing. This experience helped open up a
whole new perspective of theater shows and learn more about what goes on behind the scenes during a production. I even made
many friends along the way and helped my social life grow significantly. The advice I would give to any underclassmen is to never be
afraid to try new interests. I am so thankful for the many amazing opportunities that have been provided here at Berlin because I
have been able to grow so much as a person and be able to move out of my comfort zone when it comes to meeting new people.
Richie bullock:
I would like to thank Olentangy Local Schools for the endless opportunities that they have provided for me. I
would also like to thank all of the teachers that really cared. The ones that ask me how I’m doing everyday and are
actually interested to hear my response. Thank you to those teachers, for making me feel wanted in this school. I
would also like to thank every single one of my friends and family who have guided me through these insane last
four years. There have been many ups and downs, and my people have always had my back. The support that I
have received is unmatched and I am forever grateful. I also want to thank all of the artists that provide an escape
for me, and bless my ears every single day. Lastly, I would like to thank myself. I have worked so hard to graduate
from this school, and get into college. I’ve overcome so many challenges and for that, I am so proud of what I have
accomplished.
Adam Eskender:
It has been an amazing journey that I have experienced these last three years as a Berlin Bear. I can remember the first day
when this school was first opened and it was crazy to witness the change from the way too crowded Olentangy High School, to
the empty hallways and classes that weren’t even full. The most notable strong quality that we have to offer is our school spirit
and the school has felt so inclusive and welcomes in new ideas from the students. For that, I thank you and I appreciate all
the hard work the school has made for not just me, but the whole senior class by allowing us to have enjoyable events in such a
messed up year. Also, I want to thank all the teachers and friends that helped me get through the worst and best of times over
these last four years as I don’t know if I would be in this position without them. I can’t wait for what’s in store, but I know that
this school is one of the best I could ask to spend my last three years at and I will continue to carry this Berlin pride wherever
I go.
Indie Murphy:
Hi everyone! If you’re reading this, I made it! I honestly kind of felt like my life would just be perpetual high school, but now I’m
finally at the end. I’m going to the most beautiful college I’ve ever visited and finally leaving Ohio. We had a good run, but I think
it’s time to break up.
I was honestly fine going through school without making any friends, but I ended up meeting some of my most favorite people
in the world. I met my best friend, Sophia, one of very few people to whom I can actually give that title. I’ve never met someone as
ready to make plans at the drop of a hat like she is, and for that I am so grateful. Here’s to many more road trips and poisonous
Arby’s meals.
I was also somehow lucky enough to be on staff for The Bulletin’s very first year of publication! Please don’t go back and look at
those very first few issues, just picture them in your mind. We were doing our best with a very limited journalistic education. I’m so
glad I’ve been able to work with this fantastic staff, everyone is always on their game and eager to help others who are struggling.
It’ll be hard to walk away, and I’ll miss you all, but please know that each year was an absolute blast.
Thank you for everything, stay cool everyone!

Eli Gamble: FEATURE
In 2006, the movie High School Musical was released. At four years old, I wasn’t quite sure what was going on; a little song and
dance action was the extent of my understanding. I later aged and realized that it is more than just flash mobs in school. It was about
discovering yourself in early adulthood- passions, true friendships, and what it means to be you.
I thought this was the most unrealistic portrayal of high school until I walked into the doors of Olentangy Berlin High School.
On the first day of sophomore year, I was excited. A new school meant new traditions. New opportunities. And a new community. I
had a chance to start fresh, and I wasn’t going to take it for granted.
In 2019, the end of my sophomore year, I volunteered at the annual art show organized by the OBHS Art Department. I woke up
super early, put on my double blue shirt and headed to what I didn’t know would be the best day ever. I remember flooding the
sidewalks with colorful chalk drawings, displaying the art, and nervously attempting to throw on the potter’s wheel for the first time
with my sister by my side. The halls were filled with proud parents, faculty, and student artists. Face painting, food trucks, warm
spring air, and a sunny day. Appreciation for young artists prevailed through the crowd. In that moment, I knew I had a place in the
community at 3140 Berlin Station Road.
Through my years at OBHS, I have grown as a person, an artist, a journalist, but most importantly, a bear. And through my years
at OBHS, my opinions on High School Musical have changed. Thanks to teachers, faculty, and students, my dreams of living out the
movie were exceeded immensely. East High bobcats have nothing on us bears!
As I reflect on the past, I think about all the days I was greeted entering the building by Mr. Spinner and how on May 19 the
welcome will turn into a goodbye and good luck.
As I move into college, I will always remember the amazing high school experience I have had because Berlin pride- it truly is forever.
Ellie First:
Dear Readers,
Over the past three years, I have had the amazing privilege of writing and serving as editor for this publication. Throughout my time
at Berlin, I’ve had many transformative experiences that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Writing for the Bulletin has given
me the chance to gain real world experience and endure the trials and triumphs within the newsroom. Our very first year, we had
only six of us on staff. As a sophomore, I had no idea what I was in for as the editor-in-chief of the new publication. It took a lot of trial
and error, collaboration and leadership, but it was worth every minute and I am so proud of the end result. Building something from
the ground up isn’t an easy task and we’ve truly proven to ourselves that we can do anything, from creating a publication with no
experience and six students, to turning it into a professional quality, award-winning magazine. But it isn’t just academically that I’ve
grown; within the walls of room 2005, I have found friends, a mentor, and developed a set of skills that I will bring into the real world.
I will miss all of the laughs, tears, and conversations had. Most of all I will miss being able to go to the journalism room and eat lunch,
talk about my day, or just relax. While I’ve had so many meaningful moments at Berlin, my time in the journalism program takes
the cake. Throughout the past three years , I have found my passion, learned a lot about myself as a person, and made irreplaceable
memories. While I’m ecstatic to embark on the next chapter of life and see where it takes me, I will never forget everything that this
publication, and Berlin have brought me. So to my fellow Bulletin staff members, Mrs. Bush, Mr. Spinner, the entirety of the Berlin
faculty and all of the readers, thank you for the most amazing three years; for reading my “letters from the editor” and following along
on my (and the Bulletin’s) journey of self growth. I’m sad that this is my last letter (seriously--I’m crying), but I am incredibly grateful
for the opportunity to have been the first ever editor of the Bulletin the past three years. I can’t wait to pass the torch and see where the
Bulletin will go next- even if I am reading it from 10 hours away. Three years ago, you could have never convinced timid 15 year old me
that I would be in the shoes that I am now. As I look back, I think about all of the unforgettable moments that I’ve had, and how much
things have changed. Time really does fly when you’re having fun. Shoutout to the Bulletin, the OBHS swim team, and my friends for
all of the amazing memories, I couldn’t have done it without you. While this publication is my baby- I know it’s time to pass it onto the
next generation of Bears. Whether you buy it in the cafeteria for a dollar, find a copy sitting on your kitchen table and decide to crack it
open, or you decide to get involved in journalism, I hope that it brings you at least a small fraction of the joy it’s brought me.
Mary Koeppen:
With the opening of Olentangy Berlin, I was given a second chance to find my groove, find my people, and find my passion. I
found myself through many lengthy hours of hyperfocus while designing issues this year, setting up for art shows, laughing until my
ribs got sore during Mrs. Knight’s lunch period, doing TikTok dances behind stage before shows, throwing on the wheel with Eli
and Mrs. Butler, and downing Monsters to finish collaborative projects. Berlin has brought about an array of opportunities for me
that I couldn’t see coming from anywhere else.
The entire art department was so supportive of whatever project I wanted to take on, no matter how big or small. I am blessed to
have had the freedom to have access to the resources that allow me to have the creative liberty I need to produce quality pieces.
The news magazine staff is now award winning and I’m so lucky that I was able to contribute to our success. Our hard work and
determination is evident for as young of a publication as it is. I am not worried to leave behind the magazine; I know it is in the best
of hands and has such a bright future. I look forward to having a subscription to The Bulletin for the years to follow.
My final “Claws Up!” is given to The Bulletin.

Rewind to 2018, The Bulletin staff consisted of six aspiring journalists. When they walked into the J-Lab
for the first time, little did they know they were going to do so much more than just write. These Bears
implemented traditions within the pages of each issue crowding with passion inside the walls of the lab. To
every word they wrote, to every page they designed, and to every issue they sold, the journalism department
would simply not be where it is today without them. Skip to 2021, the founders of The Bulletin are now
seniors. After the creation of 17 magazines and a published website, these Bears must now walk across the
stage and leave their double blue legacy behind.
To our seniors…
“After working shoulder to shoulder with you for the past two years, I would like to thank you for always
projecting your passion for journalism. Whether it was in the J-lab or the many field trips we took, the
passion consistently thrived. Without your work ethic and infatuation for writing, The Bulletin staff would
simply not be where we are today. Each of you are going to go off and accomplish so much, but always
remember you have a forever home in these double blue halls,” junior Ambria Herring said.
“Thank you for showing me, the rest of the staff, and the rest of Berlin what it means to be a part of The
Bulletin! I feel so lucky to have worked with each of you, and I am so proud of what we came together to
accomplish. Your legacy of hard work and dedication to this publication will remain
in the J-Lab long after you all graduate. I truly can’t imagine The Bulletin without
our seniors, but the work you put in and the passion you showed will always be
remembered. I will miss you all so much but I know you will do so amazing after
graduation, please come back to visit,” sophomore Emmy Bush said.
“I loved having the opportunity to work with each and every one of you over the
last year. You all have worked so hard over the past three years and especially this
year with the crazy schedule we have had. I am forever thankful for everything I
have learned from all of you including your work ethic. The amount of work that
you all put into The Bulletin never went unnoticed. You guys made The Bulletin
what it is today and the J-Lab will not be the same without you,” sophomore
Caitlin Hill said.
