Introduction: What is the Malaysian
Teaching Code of Ethics?
● Malaysia Teachers' Code of Ethics spells out the guidelines for teachers to act
professionally in their field.
● Every teacher should be aware of theTeacher Code of Ethics in order to act
professionally and ethically in their profession.
● All guidelines aimed at improving the level of quality, productivity, and discipline
in the service by emphasizing all aspects related to rules and civilization, the
role of values, as well as the conduct of the profession in society.
● The Malaysian Teaching Code of Ethics can be defined as a set of behaviors
or responsibilities of a teacher towards society and the country, students,
colleagues and parents of students.
Code of Ethics of Malaysia Teaching Profession
The ethics of teaching profession must be implemented and
emphasised based on the following principles:

Responsibility
towards Students
• The teacher shall give foremost consideration to the pupils' well
being.
• The teacher shall direct his/her whole professional effort to
assist the pupil to develop his/her whole personality including
his/her ability to work.
• The teacher shall foster in pupils honesty, integrity and
consideration for others and shall do nothing by precept or
example to discredit these qualities.
Responsibility
towards Parents
• The teacher shall recognize the right of a parent to consult them, through proper
channels, on the welfare or progress of a pupils. The teacher shall recognize the
right of a parent to be consulted about any matter which concerns the future
development of their child.
• The shall do nothing to undermine lawful parental authority, but shall be prepared to
give advice which, in their professional view, is in the best interest of the pupil.
• The teacher shall make every effort to encourage parents to interest themselves
actively in the education and welfare of their children.
• The teacher shall act within the community in a manner which enhance the prestige
of the profession.

Responsibility Society and
the Country
• To avoid any teaching which can bring harm to the pupils ,society or nation,
or which is contradictory to the pupils National Principles.
• To instill pupils with positive attitudes and noble values so that they will
become loyal, responsible and useful citizens, and respect elders and
people of different culture, racial descendant and religion.
• To respect the school and to fulfil all the responsibilities as good citizens.
Responsibility
towards Collegues
• The teacher shall respect the professional standing and and opinions of colleagues
and shall maintain relations with them the highest standards of professional courtesy.
• The teacher shall be prepared to help in all possible ways junior colleagues and those
in training.
• The teacher shall accept the authority of senior professional colleagues while
retaining the right to express professional opinion.
Responsibility towards
Teaching Profession
• The teacher shall recognize their obligation to advance the causes of education and
hence the causes of the teaching profession.
• The teacher shall recognize their obligation to improve their effectiveness as a
teacher in every possible way.
• The teacher shall recognize their responsibilities for their own actions and
judgements and they shall be prepared to stand by their consequences.
• The teacher shall recognize their duty to manifest responsibility, individual initiative,
and integrity in their teaching and other professional actions within guidelines laid
down for the profession.
