ทักษะการอ่านเป็นกระบวนการทางความคิดที่สามารถแปลความ ตีความ ขยาย
ความ และสร้างความเข้าใจถึงความหมายของสิ่งที่อ่านได้อย่างถูกต้อง ตลอดจนสามารถ
จบั ใจความสาคัญ และรายละเอยี ดตา่ ง ๆ ได้ รวมทง้ั สามารถส่ือสารเร่ืองราวได้ตามความรู้
ความสามารถและประสบการณ์ของตนเอง อีกทั้งยังช่วยส่งเสริมให้แสวงหาข้อมูลเพื่อ
เพิ่มพูนความรู้ และพัฒนาสติปัญญาอย่างต่อเน่ือง นอกจากน้ีการอ่านยังทาให้เกิดการ
พัฒนาด้านสติปัญญา ด้านความรู้ ความสามารถ ตลอดจนนาความรู้และความคิดที่ได้
จากการอ่านไปประยกุ ตใ์ ชใ้ นชวี ติ ประจาวันได้

ด้านทักษะการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษ โดยใช้เทคนิคและส่ือจริงที่พบเจอในชีวิตประจาวัน
ประเภทต่าง ๆ ในการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษ และนาไปฝึกฝนจนเกิดทักษะการอ่าน
ภาษาอังกฤษ เพ่ือความเข้าใจท่ีคงทน สามารถนาความรู้และทักษะท่ีได้รับไปประยุกต์
ใช้ในชีวิตประจาวัน ตระหนักถึงความสาคัญ เห็นคุณค่าและมีเจตคติที่ดีต่อการเรียน

เร่ือง ช่ือเรือ่ ง (Topic)

ช่ือเร่ืองนัน้ สาคัญไฉน ? “Why is topic important?”

ช่ือเรื่อง(Topic) คือ สิ่งท่ีความคิดหลักในบทอ่าน กล่าวคือเป็น
ข้อความทผี่ ้เู ขียนต้องการสอื่ สารถึงผู้อา่ นว่าเร่ืองทอ่ี า่ นเกี่ยวกบั อะไร ซ่ึงจะ
มีลักษณะเป็นคานามหรือวลีส้ัน ๆ ที่มีใจความกระชับ และครอบคลุม
เน้อื หาท้ังหมดในเนอ้ื เรื่อง

การหาชื่อเร่ือง(Topic) ของสิ่งที่อ่าน เป็นเทคนิคอย่างหน่ึงของการ
อ่าน หากผู้อ่านสามารถหาหัวข้อเร่ืองได้ ก็จะช่วยให้ผู้อ่านสามารถสรุป
คร่าว ๆ ได้ว่าส่ิงที่อ่านเป็นเร่ืองเกี่ยวกับอะไร ซ่ึงจะทาให้สามารถอ่านได้
เข้าใจดียิ่งข้ึน การรู้จักหาหัวข้อเรื่องของส่ิงท่ีอ่าน จึงเป็นวิธีที่ผู้อ่านควรจะ
เรยี นรูแ้ ละฝกึ ฝนอยู่เป็นประจา เมื่อต้องอา่ นบทอ่านประเภทต่าง ๆ ซึ่งอาจ
กลา่ วได้วา่ เปน็ เทคนิคการอา่ นอยา่ งหน่งึ ที่มปี ระโยชนต์ อ่ ผอู้ า่ นเป็นอย่างย่ิง

ชื่อเร่อื ง (Topic) หาไดจ้ ากทีไ่ หน?

ช่ือเร่ือง (Topic) อาจหาได้จากหัวข้อเร่ือง หรือ Topic
Sentence หรือจากการกล่าวถึงส่ิงหนึ่งสิ่งใดซ้าในย่อหน้านั้น ๆ ลักษณะ
คาถามทพ่ี บบอ่ ยในการถามหาชื่อเรือ่ ง เช่น

 The main topic of this passage is _____________.
 The topic of the paragraph is _____________.
 What is the main topic of this passage?
 What is the topic of this paragraph?
 What is the paragraph mainly about?

Solar energy is heat energy that comes from the
sun. Solar-heat panels concentrate the sun’s heat to
warm water and create power. Solar power helps save
other sources of energy, such as oil, gas, and other fuels.
Solar panels collect the sun’s heat and change it to
useful energy.

จากข้อความข้างต้นนี้จะพบว่าผู้เขียนกล่าวถึง พลังงาน
แสงอาทิตย์ (Solar energy) อยู่เกือบทุกประโยค ดังน้ันหัวเร่ือง
(Topic) ของขอ้ ความนี้จงึ เปน็ "Solar Energy"

Zebras are among the most beautiful animals on earth.
With their bold black-and-white stripes, they stand apart from
other African animals. Zebras are shorter than most other
horses, their ears are larger, and some of them make a barking
sound! Most importantly, only zebras have stripes. Many
zebras have been killed for their beautiful skins.

จากขอ้ ความข้างต้นน้ีจะพบว่าผู้เขียนกล่าวถึง ลักษณะ รูปร่างของ
มา้ ลาย ดงั นนั้ หัวเรื่อง (Topic) ของข้อความนจ้ี ึงเปน็ "Zebras"

A biography is the history of a person’s life. Many
biographies contain some fiction. This means the information is
mostly true, but the exact words are made up. Some
biographies are about a president, a musician, a sports figure, a
scientist, or an explorer. Biographies can also have pictures.

จากข้อความข้างต้นน้ีจะพบว่าผู้เขียนกล่าวถึง ลักษณะ
รูปแบบของชีวประวัติ ดังนั้นหัวเรื่อง (Topic) ของข้อความนี้จึง
เปน็ " A biography "

Everyone needs a good night’s sleep. Sleep gives the
body a chance to heal and refresh itself. A proper amount of
sleep can give you a better mental attitude and also help
your mind be more alert. Sleep restores your energy and
allows you to perform better in physical activities. Doctors
recommend that children get 9–12 hours of sleep every night.

จากข้อความข้างต้นน้ีจะพบว่าผู้เขียนกล่าวถึงความสาคัญของการ
นอน ดังนนั้ หวั เรือ่ ง (Topic) ของข้อความนีจ้ งึ เปน็ "Sleep"

inventions, the phonograph, changed our lives. He thought of it

(Main Idea)

ใจความสาคญั คืออะไร “What is main idea?”

ใจความสาคัญ คือ ใจความหลักของเรื่อง เป็นส่วนสาคัญที่สุดของ
เร่ือง ที่ครอบคลุมเร่ืองน้ัน ๆ ประโยคหรือข้อความที่มีเน้ือหา
ครอบคลุมข้อความอื่น ๆ ในย่อหน้าหรือเรื่องน้ันๆท้ังหมด ส่วนข้อความ
อืน่ ๆ เป็นเพียงสว่ นขยายใจความสาคญั เท่านนั้ ใจความสาคัญส่วนมากจะมี
ลกั ษณะเปน็ ประโยค ซงึ่ อาจปรากฏอยู่ในสว่ นใดส่วนหนง่ึ ของย่อหนา้ กไ็ ด้

Main Idea มี 2 ชนิด คอื
1. Stated Main Idea คือ หลักใหญ่ใจความที่สาคัญท่ีสุด

ของเรื่อง ซึ่งผู้เขียนบอกมาตรง ๆ สามารถครอบคลุมเนื้อหาของเร่ือง
ไดท้ ้ังหมด จะต้องตง้ั main idea ไว้ในการเขียน และบรรยายหรืออธิบาย
โดยยึด main idea เป็นหลัก ส่วนท่ีขยายหรือบรรยายให้รายละเอียด
ต่อจาก main idea คือ Supporting idea โดยปกติในเน้ือความหน่ึง ๆ
เรามักจะพบ stated main idea ได้ในตอนต้น ตอนกลาง หรือตอนท้าย
ของยอ่ หนา้

2. Implied Main Idea หมายถึง การกล่าวถึง main idea
ลักษณะที่ผู้เขียนไม่ได้กล่าวตรง ๆ เพียงแต่แสดงเป็นนัยให้เห็นเท่าน้ัน
ผ้อู ่านจึงตอ้ งวินิจฉัยเอง

หลกั การพิจารณาหาใจความสาคัญ (Main Idea) ในเนอ้ื เรื่อง

1) ใจความสาคัญอยตู่ น้ เรอื่ ง ประโยคทอ่ี ย่ตู อนต้นยอ่ หน้า เป็นจุดทพี่ บ
ใจความสาคญั ของเรอ่ื งในแตล่ ะยอ่ หนา้ มากทสี่ ดุ เพราะผ้เู ขยี นมักบอกประเด็น
สาคญั ไวก้ ่อน แล้วจึงขยายรายละเอยี ดให้ชดั เจน ดังตัวอยา่ งต่อไปนี้

Water is one of the most important Main Idea
elements in nature. All plants and animals
need water to survive. Much of the human
body is made of water. It is important that our
water sources are kept unpolluted. Without
clean water, no plant or creature will be able
to survive for very long.

จากข้อความข้างต้นน้ีจะพบว่า ผู้เขียนกล่าวถึง ความสาคัญของน้าว่า น้า
เปน็ องค์ประกอบสาคัญของธรรมชาติ ทั้งพืชและสัตว์ต่างต้องการน้าเพื่อความอยู่
รอด ร่างกายของมนุษย์ก็มีน้าเป็นส่วนประกอบเช่นกัน เป็นเร่ืองสาคัญท่ีเราต้อง
อนุรักษ์แหล่งนา้ ไมใ่ ห้เน่าเสีย หากไมม่ ีน้าที่สะอาดแล้ว พืชและสัตว์ก็ไม่สามารถมี
ชีวิตอยู่รอดได้ ใจความสาคัญ (Main Idea) จึงอยู่ท่ีประโยคแรก คือ Water is
one of the most important elements in nature.

2) ใจความสาคัญอยู่ท้ายเรื่อง เป็นจุดท่ีพบใจความสาคัญของเรื่องในแต่
ละยอ่ หน้ารองลงมาโดยผู้เขียนจะบอกรายละเอียดหรือประเด็นย่อยก่อน แล้วจึง
สรุปดว้ ยประโยคท่ีเป็นประเด็นไว้ภายหลงั ตวั อยา่ งต่อไปนี้

Why do things fall when you drop
them? Gravity makes things that go up come
down. Gravity is the pulling force that

affects every object on Earth and in space.

Main Idea

จากขอ้ ความข้างตน้ นจ้ี ะพบว่าผู้เขยี นกลา่ วถงึ แรงโน้มถ่วง ว่า "ทาไมเมื่อ
เราทง้ิ สง่ิ ของจึงตกลง แรงโน้มถ่วงทาให้ส่ิงที่ลอยข้ึนตกลงมาแรงโน้มถ่วงเป็นแรง
ดึงที่เกิดผลต่อวัตถุทุกอย่างที่อยู่บนโลกและในอวกาศ" ใจความสาคัญ (Main
Idea) จึงอยู่ท่ีประโยคสุดท้าย คือ Gravity is the pulling force that affects
every object on Earth and in space.

3) ใจความสาคัญอยู่กลางเร่ือง เป็นจุดท่ีพบใจความสาคัญยากข้ึน
ซ่ึงผอู้ ่านจะต้องใชค้ วามสังเกตและพจิ ารณาให้ดี ตัวอยา่ งต่อไปนี้

Keep your tree outdoors until the day Main Idea
before Christmas. Never use lighted candles.
There are also other suggestions for avoiding a

Christmas tree fire. Turn off the lights before you
leave the house and throw away the tree by
New Year's Day.

ย่อหน้าน้ีกล่าวถึงคาแนะนา เพ่ือหลีกเลี่ยงมิให้เกิดไฟไหม้ต้นคริสต์มาส
วา่ ให้นาต้นคริสตม์ าสไปไวน้ อกบา้ นก่อนจะถงึ วนั คริสต์มาสและไม่ให้จุดเทียนไว้
ด้วย นอกจากนี้ยังแนะนาอีกว่าให้ปิดไฟก่อนออกจากบ้าน และทิ้งต้นไม้เมื่อถึง
วันปีใหม่ ดังน้ันใจความสาคัญ (Main Idea) จึงอยู่ที่ประโยคกลาง คือ There
are also other suggestions for avoiding a Christmas tree fire.

4) ไม่ปรากฏใจความสาคัญในประโยคใดประโยคหนึ่ง แต่ต้องสรุปเอง
ดังท่ีกล่าวแล้วว่าการหา Main Idea นั้น จะต้องมีการค้นหา Topic ก่อน
ดูว่าเร่ืองที่อ่านกล่าวถึงคานามตัวไหนบ่อยท่ีสุด (Topic Noun) แล้วดูว่า มีการ
กล่าวถึงนามคาน้ันว่าอย่างไร (Topic Idea) แล้วจึงดูว่าข้อความท่ีเป็นใจความ
สาคัญของเร่ือง Topic Idea น้ันอยู่ในประโยคใด ประโยคน้ันคือ Topic
Sentence หรอื Main Idea น่ันเอง ดงั ตัวอย่างนี้

currency the “dollar”. Australia and New Zealand
have also measure their currency by “dollars”. The
