The Department of Decision Sciences has undergone a remarkable evolution since its inception in the 1990's. Initially offering Production and Material Management courses as part of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, the department gradually expanded it’s scope while adapting to the changing landscape of management education. Before 1990, students pursuing degrees within the Faculty were introduced to the fundamentals of Production and Material Management. However, recognizing the need for a more comprehensive understanding of operational strategies, the subject was elevated to Operations Management in 1990. This upgrade integrated Operations Management into the core curriculum of various degree programmes within the Faculty, emphasizing its significance as a fundamental functional area in management. The pivotal moment in the Department's history occurred in 2001 with the establishment of the Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences. This restructuring led to the integration of Operations Management into the Management Common Programme which marked a significant milestone in the Department's journey towards specialization and innovation. Building upon this momentum, the initiative to establish a dedicated degree programme and Department for Operations and Technology Management gained traction in 2002. Following approval from the University in 2003, the groundwork was laid for the formation of the new degree programme. In September 2007, the Department of Decision Sciences was officially separated, laying the foundation for the inaugural batch of students to enroll in the Operations and Technology Management programme in 2008.
