Descriptive

The physical appearance of a pangolin is marked by
large, hardened, overlapping plate-like scales. The scales,
which are soft on newborn pangolin but harden as the
animal matures, are made of keratin, the same material of
which human fingernails and tetrapod claws are made.
Pangolins do not have teeth. It is also not very fast, in fact,
it has to wobble on it's back legs and tail. It has a long,
sticky tongue which it uses to slide through the holes in the
ant colony to get ants. A Pangolin's tongue can be longer
than it's body.

Sequence

This is how a species goes extinct. 1. The frozen
bodies of 3,000 to 4,000 pangolins lying in a pit before
being burned in Medan, Indonesia. 2. Fire engulfs
thousands of frozen pangolins in a pit dug outside Medan,
Indonesia.3 . Pangolin’s scales are p rized as traditional
medicines in parts of Asia. 4. Frozen and pangolins and
scales are displayed during a pangolin bust in April 2015.
5. An estimated 3.4 tons of pangolin parts were
confiscated during the bust, with a street value of nearly
$1.4 million. 6. Nearly 100 Pangolins were seized in the
raids. 7. The animals were found in cramped poultry
cages. 8. Wildlife officials released the surviving Pangolins
back into the wild.

Compare and Contrast

Pangolins and Penguins are both animals, but they
have many differences. Pangolins live in jungles and
deserts. Penguins live in antarctica and cold climates.
Pangolins have spikes on their back. Penguins backs are
smooth. Pangolins are 16 inches tall. Penguins are 3 to 6
feet tall. They are both going extinct. Those are the
similarities and differences of Pangolins and Penguins.

Cause and Effect

Pangolins are getting traded and eaten which is causing
them to go extinct. People illegally trade pangolins for their
meat and scales. This is causing them to go extinct. No
one knows how many are left. Another cause and effect is
how people are cutting down the rainforest and the
pangolins are left with no homes and that is causing them
to go extinct.

Problem and Solution

The Pangolin is on the brink of extinction, it is the
world's most hunted animal. They are victims of illegal
wildlife-crime, they are hunted for their meat and scales.
Eight species of pangolins are found on two continents.
The four species found in Asia: Indian pangolin (Manis
crassicaudata), Philippine pangolin (Manis culionensis),
Sunda pangolin (Manis javanica) and the Chinese pangolin
(Manis pentadactyla). All eight of the species of Pangolin
are endangered. All eight pangolin species are protected
under national and international laws, and two are listed
as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List of
Threatened Species, But they are still hunted.
