Classroom and other

Course Requirements

• Daily Attendance
– Students who miss class are obligated to request missing work
for completion—usually this is available online!

• Follow all instructions from teacher promptly and comply with
class rules. Stay seated at all times until dismissed by Mr. O.

• Notebook, Pen, Pencil
– Notebook is kept pristine, representative of student’s best
work. Always carry a pen and pencil with you.
– Copy down log for the day as soon as you enter the room!

• Textbook
– Register for online textbook to use in the cloud. Physical
textbooks are kept in the room.

• MLA formatted research projects
• Technical Proficiency

– Complete all the technical details on the tech sheet and share usernames and
passwords with parents.

• Daily use of Blackboard (online classroom)and United Classroom
• Completion of all online activities (tests, quizzes, forums, journals,

wikis, blogs) on time and to the best of ability.
• Participation in all Class Activities is required. Get involved!

Course Objectives & Expectations

• Students will master elements of civilization
• Students will master the history of the world’s great civilizations

and gain an appreciation of their own. We will cover the
Enlightenment through Modern Times.
• Students will trace the history of Western Civilization and how it
intertwines with other civilizations
• Students will maintain a minimum 85 average
• Students will maintain a notebook and log
• Students will complete major research projects
• Students will gain experience presenting, writing and creatively
expressing using digital technology
• Students will comport themselves with honor! Students will always
do their best!

Class Philosophy

• If homework is going to be late, you are
expected to contact Mr. O immediately

• If you apply online to re-take a test or a quiz,
you are expected to show up on time for the
re-take or make arrangements with Mr. O

• It is expected that you will follow all instructions
from Mr. O and that you accept that the only
response to a request from Mr. O is “Okay”,
“Yes” or “Alright”.

**Mr. Oberholtzer is available without
appointment for extra help periods 3
& 7 and after school Tues. & Thurs.
Appointments are required for rest of
the week.
**Test make-ups are also done after
school by appointment
**All students have a deadline of 1
week to complete makeup work.

Reassessment and Extra Credit

**Retest/Requiz Option

Students may apply online within one week after taking a
test or quiz to retake that assessment and have the second
grade substituted for the original grade. The student agrees
to accept whatever the second score is and submits to
having that score entered into Powerschool as the official
grade for the assessment in question. It is up to the student
to request this opportunity.

Late Work: a zero is entered for assignments not turned in.
Late work is entered at half-credit unless prior
arrangements have been made.

**Extra Credit

Extra Credit must be requested by the student and
completed within an agreed upon time frame. Extra Credit
is granted on a case by case basis. It is up to the student to
request this opportunity online.

Expectations Checklist

(1) bring folder with 3 dividers (logs, classwork, homework) every
day

(2) Bring pen & pencil to class & copy down log into folder daily.
(3) bring laptop charged and ready every day without fail.
(4) NO unauthorized use of cellphones or earbuds is allowed
(5) NO accessing of unauthorized web sites! Ever!
(6) Laptops are to be opened and ready at beginning of class.
(7) Critical applications on the tech sheet are bookmarked on the

laptop
(8) Laptop positions—closed, open at 45 degrees or fully open. If

Mr. O closes your laptop, only Mr. O opens it back up again
(9) Students will always be in their assigned seats, will always

observe proper decorum by not talking during instruction and
students will not trash the room or write on the desks.
(10) Wait to be dismissed by Mr. O at the end of the period!

Mr. Oberholtzer is best reached through email. All emails will be answered
within 24 hours. Voicemail messages are slower and more cumbersome, so
allow up to 72 hours for a return call. If there is an emergency, call the main
office and have Mr. O paged or have a note placed in his mailbox.
