Malunya aku”. Kimi ketawa perlahan. Semua memori diputarkan kembali seiring tayangan video itu. Semua terdiam sendiri dan masingmasing melayan perasaan. Tanpa sedar, segalanyanya begitu pantas berlalu. Masanya telah tiba… Kini berakhirlah majlis perpisahan murid tingkatan lima. Kahwin nanti jangan lupa jemput kami”. Usik Damia yang cuba mengawal rasa ingin menangisnya. Semua tersenyum kelat disebabkan perasaan yang bercampur-baur.“Hoi! Ash. Bangunlah. Apa hal kau terjerit-jerit menangis ni? Siapa yang kahwin? Itulah, jangan tidur lepas asar. Ustaz kata nanti otak kita jadi biol!”“Hah! Aku mimpi rupanya.” Ash terpisat-pisat sambil Aminda kehairanan melihatnya.“Jom kita ke dewan makan. Makan malam sudah sedia terhidang. Lambat nanti lauk habis.” 105
Tambahan lagi, minda manusia berjiwa rakus seperti golongan pemaju perumahan masih dangkal kerana asyik memikirkan keuntungan.
Sekian terima kasih . POETRY WRITING ‘If I May ….. ‘ By: Unnie & Tiejashre Anatharaw Giving us delight, and the light of life, we owe them this beat of pulse. As far as these eyes see the skies and oceans, as far as this heart love the animals and the greens; for they shall continue to grow, even if a harsh wind blows. If I may, I want the feeling to be shared.. Soft cloud wanders gracefully above the crystal lakes like some fluffy cotton candies. Hosts of lilies beneath the trees, dancing in the breeze; colourful butterflies and bees jingle with glee. O..What wealth had they brought to this ignorance of mine. If I may talk about happiness, About the sun and the moon, uncovering their days and nights If I may wonder how a stem is chiselled to bear leaves so strong to hold the tiny gem called raindrops; If I may walk with nature and feel grateful for receiving far more than what I seek; I must be grateful for this life I live; Grateful for friends; old and new; Grateful for lessons that teach me how to grow and give; Grateful for reminder of all the things I am in; O…. why is it now that so many things seem not right, For the skies are grey, the oceans are no longer wide, The mountains have lost their treasures As they become the prey of gluttonous mortals. Lakes are now flakes of mud where the lifeless lilies cried and dried, And the wind still blow but with a deadly stench, Coming from a stray dog; lifeless under the bench. If I may stop and step in: showing awareness of the environment welfare, planting trees with care, so we could have a lushful of greens to share. If I may stop to help one faint bird unto his feet again; He could fly high and have a family of his own. Later one day, we could hear a choir of melodious chirping, signalling hopes for a better tomorrow; And….. If I may look deep into nature, the world has an endless magic and wonder. Neither you nor I shall understand the future: But if these hands are kept away from their destructive behaviour, We may continue to live in a blissful wonder of our Mother Nature. If I may… 110
The roads are slowly being lined up with cars The crowds are slowly growing bigger Is the door to freedom has finally ajar? The planted seeds in the yard, were still carefully watered and fed without fail, And today, the bright beautiful sunlight has surpassed its frail. Seeds became flowers and blossomed through the days. No words are able to come out from my talkative lips, describing how thankful I am for the frontline workers who have put tireless efforts in this battle with the invisible yet deadly virus The amount of endurance to wear thick layers of shield to bear the non-absorbable heat for countless of hours to be showered with sweats have finally paid off Keep the distance! Wear the face mask! No crowd! Adjourn! U-Turn Thou, the voice is like a storm Your care is sincere as a Mom Now, we can be proud to say, we have reached the top of the mountain! We have reached the goal we used to have in view We have swept the obstacles away But, never shall we lose our consciousness The ceiling fan used to be stuck in our sight, The everyday routine used to cycle non-stop, working from home and juggling the household chores, Everything paid off as we swoosh the pandemic off Life is coming back alive Togetherness By: Nadia Khaleeda binti Mohd Khalid In the clouds there lies a land, Known as the Kingdom of Geranium, Where the land has no end, Floating into the horizon, Little wings that made me fly, Soaring me into the sky, Cats and dragons flying high, The gravity, I defy, A wizard without a broom, I can fly on my own, With the magic spells I learned, Harmony is my only concern, Forever young healthy and blissful, Nobody ages life is peaceful, Into the world I find my freedom, Only in Kingdom of Geranium. MY SIBERIAN CAT By: Dzuani Atiqah binti Abdullah I own a pet, a Siberian cat. Angel is her name. She has two perky ears that are quite sensitive to noises, a very silky white coat and cute little paws. Angel is very affectionate and fun. She enjoys eating raw fish, but we sometimes feed her kibble since she seems to like the taste too. My mom's automobile was where I discovered her. At the time, she was a new born and today, she is 9 years old. She was alone when I found her, so I brought her with me because she looked terrified and lonely. I soon fed her goat milk after bringing her inside, and to my relief she seemed to appreciate it. After that she eventually drifted off to sleep peacefully. A few weeks later, she appeared to be extremely contented. She ate a lot and she was also more active than before. Even though I am always busy, I still spend time with her occasionally because she deserves it and I do not want her to feel left out. She is incredibly important to all of us and is adored by everyone in my family. Her mere presence makes us joyful. When I awoke one morning from a nap, I immediately called her name, but she did not answer. I walked to her bed because I thought maybe she was sleeping, but I did not see her there either. I scowled and proceeded to ask my family where she had gone, but they all claimed not to have seen her since last night. At that point, I began to suspect that she had vanished. Thinking about it caused my heart to plummet immediately. I felt as though my universe had suddenly crumbled and my brain was unable to process anything. I broke down in tears in front of my entire family, and I did not even consider how embarrassing it would be for me because all I could think about was my cat. She still had not returned after a few days. Every day I continued to shout her name and wait for her in front of my house in hopes that she would hear me and return, but she did not. Making a pamphlet about her and posting it on my social media was one of the many effort I took in search of her. As well as asking my friends to do the same thing was what I did to locate her. Her name was etched on her collar, I prayed hard that a kind soul would find her and return her to me. We were delighted and grateful when she was returned to us the next day. Since then, I have always kept a close check on her since we do not want it to happen again. We nearly lost her, and we do not want this to happen again. She spent more or less another five years living with us when a car struck her as she was crossing the street the street. After a few hours, she died in front of me because she was bleeding so much. I was devastated to say the least. All of the lovely experiences we created together will never be forgotten. The moral of the story is to cherish all you have since you never know when you will lose it 112
MIRACLE BY CHANCE By: Faza Alisya binti Fairouz Freedom is something so valuable that you can’t really describe it. What is freedom really? Can you taste it or see it? Well you can definitely feel it and that is for sure. The feeling of freedom is a fulfilment that everyone desires. Based on this, can a mere isolated village girl who has never left her house achieve that kind of feeling one day? “Sarah!” “Yes mother!” “Where on earth have you been?” the cross middle- aged woman asked angrily. “I was just enjoying the flowers near the river…. I’m sorry.” “Listen here Sarah you can’t just go out like that and importantly never go outside of this property. Okay?” “Yes mother”. Sarah answered dejectedly. “The outside world is a dangerous place Sarah I’m just worried about you that’s all.” “I understand mother.” “Come along now.” Her mother said as they went inside. Sarah is a girl with a curiosity as big as the ocean and likes to learn new things. However, she never got the opportunity to do so because of her mother’s rule that stated, she can’t leave the house property. The mother in question is a very overprotective woman especially towards her daughter despite pf she being 16 years old owing to the fact that she has this view of the outside world that it is vey dangerous in every corner wherever you go. Due to this, Sarah has little knowledge about the outside world including friends. The only playmate that she had is a cat name Kim and her mother’s friend, auntie Maya who is a painter that works at the city so whenever she visited them Sarah would often ask millions of questions for her to answer about the outside world. “All that I can say is that the outside world is a place brimful with experience.” She answered. One lovely day, Sarah was rereading a story book that she had when she was little. When you are not allowed to go out, there are so little things that you can do to entertain yourself such as rereading the only book that you have. Suddenly, her mind that was full of fantasy was interrupted when she heard a knock on the door. “Hello dear.” said the bright woman Oh! Hello auntie Maya.” “Where is your mother Sarah? I have a lot to talk about with her” “She is in the kitchen at the moment.” ‘”Thank you dear and oops I almost forgot this is Adam my nephew.” “ Hello”. He greeted her. ‘Nice to meet you, Adam” 113
Sarah stated and actually she didn’t even realize that he was there and she had never talked to anyone other than auntie Maya and her mother so she didn’t know how to make a great first impression. “How about the two of you have a little chat while I go see your mother”. “Okay. The two teenagers answered simultaneously.” Sarah and Adam went to the garden that was located at the back of the house to have a chat. Sarah was an introvert girl so she didn’t know how to talk to people without feeling uncomfortable and what’s more keeping the conversation alive. “So which school do you go to?” he asked. “I am homeschooled actually.” “What! That is so boring don’t you get lonely?” “Well it is not that bad when you get used to it.” “But it is still not as great as normal school.” He replied. “As hard as she wanted to say that he was wrong, deep down she knew that he was right at some point.” “Sarah! I am going out with auntie Maya, there is something that we need to take care of. Don’t leave the house okay.” “Yes mother”. Sarah answered obediently. It was late afternoon and the two teenagers were eating inside while waiting for their moms patiently. Sarah and Adam had been chatting about their daily routine and hobbies. Not only that, Sarah had been asking Adam about his school life for instance what did he learn in school, how many friends he had, whether going to school in the city was fun? And finally, the million dollar question: is the world really that dangerous? “You’ve never gone out, have you?” he said sluggishly. “No, I haven’t so don’t make fun of me.” she was annoyed. “Well, if that’s the case then let’s go.” He suggested. “What?” Sarah asked in surprise. “You’re not serious right?” Panting and nagging were heard throughout the entire time. As they were catching their breath because they were running to catch the train. “Are you crazy? Why are we wasting our energy like this?” she said while catching her breath. “Well, you were the one who followed me here. He said without guilt.” “How could I not, you just went out of the house like that so I got worried so I followed you…jeez.” Sarah shone with an irritated tone. “Look on the bright side, you got on a train for the first time instead of being angry with me you should be happy or excited or something. He said trying to change the subject.” Sarah became silent then, it hit her. She was on a train heading to the city and far from home. Even so, instead of being scared she was actually excited. Eventually the nagging stopped and a string of questions took over. Adam patiently answered her questions one by one because he didn’t want to ruin her joyful mood at that moment. Sarah quickly learned how to buy a ticket, how to get on a train and when to hop off. Soon they arrive at the city and Sarah’s heart could not stop beating fast because of excitement. 114
“Where do we go first?” She asked “After bolting to catch the train aren’t you thirsty? Why don’t we go to a café and have a drink.” He suggested. “Sure let’s go” Sarah and Adam went to café that is located at the heart of the city. As they were heading there, Sarah had learned a lot just by watching people at the city. The city was a busy place therefore there were thousands of people doing all sorts of things. Sarah watched as people moving in synchronize as they crossed the road. She observed how people diligently queue to buy food at the stance and people being in static as the watch street performers. “Is there a place that you wish to go?” Adam asked Sarah out of the blue. “Can we go to a library?” she replied. “A library? Really? Well, if that is the place that you choose then, let’s go.” He said while gesturing his hand at Sarah to follow him. Sarah was stunned as she saw how thousands of books were neatly arranged. Shelf by shelf and level by level Sarah had never seen such place filled with books. She was feeling over the moon and started to read as many books as she could. They stayed at the library about an hour until Sarah realized that it was past midnight. “Adam! We need to go home right now or I’ll be in big trouble.” “What leaving so soon?” Adam whined. “Come on!” Sarah urged him as she was already at the door. As they arrived, they were relieved to see that the house was still dark and no one was at home yet. They opened the front door and was about to sit down and take a rest when suddenly they heard a voice. “Where on earth have you two been!” Sarah’ s mother asked furiously. “Uh… umm we were…”. Sarah couldn’t utter any word. “It is my fault.” Adam interrupted. “What do you mean it is your fault?” Auntie Maya seemed confused. After a long explanation finally, the confrontation ended. Sarah’s mother was a bit upset but auntie Maya calmed her down. Eventually, Sarah was grounded for two weeks and was told to do house work as punishment. “I am sorry mother.” Sarah said feeling guilty. “Next time please say something to me first okay” “Okay…..wait…next time? Do you mean I can go out again?” Sarah was excited by then “Only if you asked for my permission first” “Thank you…thank you …thank you mother” Sarah said repeatedly, she almost cried. “Why the change of heart?” aunt Maya asked. “When she came back that night and you asked her how was the journey, I’ve never seen her looking so happy. I really want to see that look on her face more often.” Sarah’s mom explained. “I think you have made the right decision dear.” And they both smiled. For Sarah, it was indeed a miracle that she finally got what she wanted, a feeling of freedom THE END 115
