FASHION 101 You might have heard the age-old sentiment that “it’s not what you say, but how you say it.” The same goes for fashion, but especially in regards to minimalist dressing: It’s not what you wear, but how you wear it. The booming fashion trends of quiet luxury and “old money” style aren’t exactly the same thing, but they do have something in common: They’re both rooted in the idea that less is more. We don’t have to tell you the concept isn’t exactly innovative. Rather, it’s yet another example of a beloved fashion trend — if you can call it that — coming back around. Women like Jennifer Aniston, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, Sophia Richie, and Meghan Markle are just a few examples of celebrities who’ve championed the minimalist aesthetic over the years, and who continue to prove you can make a stylistic statement even if you’re only working with fundamental staples. But to keep a trend current and fresh, it has to be reimagined and approached from a different angle, while simultaneously staying true to its core pillars. To find out how to do minimalist dressing right in 2023, we asked six experts to share how they dress to this sort of effortless elegance. Naina Singla, fashion stylist and style expert: “Although there is no magic number of how many pieces to have in a capsule wardrobe, it’s important to put the focus on building with the right pieces. To begin, I often recommend to my virtual styling clients that they choose a few essential items that will set a good foundation for a capsule wardrobe. A few examples of these essential ‘quiet luxury’ or minimalist pieces are: a statement coat or trench, an everyday dress, loose knitwear, tailored trousers, high-waisted jeans, a tailored blazer, and elevated basics to layer with such as knits, tees, and tanks.” Singla: “You’ll get the most out of your wardrobe if you’re able to make simple tweaks with your looks. You can do this easily if you create a go-to daily outfit formula, which is a specific combination of items you can wear in different versions. Think of it as a uniform of with little variation, that will help you to get dressed more easily and make it more enjoyable.” Alison Bruhn, co-founder of The Style That Binds Us: “The simpler the look, the nicer the fabric needs to be, because prints can hide flaws like uneven seams, et cetera — but solids cannot. Fabrics should be linen, cashmere, cotton, silk, tweed, leather, and suede. Pay extra attention to how the clothing drapes on the body.” BY NIKITO MARWAN “Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life,”

MIX since 2015 and since then it has changed the way I think about clothes. Before I started using a capsule wardrobe, I my closet used to be packed full of clothes with lots of different patterns and colors. I had so many clothes in my closet that I didn’t know what I had and it was so difficult getting dressed everyday. Now, by using a capsule wardrobe, my closet naturally stays neat and tidy. I love getting dressed everyday now and I always know what to wear! See how to mix and match 3 tops, 3 layers, 3 bottoms and 3 pairs of shoes for a total of 81 outfits. This mini capsule is a way to learn how to use a capsule wardrobe. You can use this mini capsule wardrobe as a minimalist wardrobe, if you travel in an RV or if you are traveling on vacation using your suitcase. AND MATCH Ddo you use a capsule wardrobe? If you do, don’t you just love how many outfits you can create from just a few pieces? I have been using a capsule wardrobe in my closet

A CAPSULE WARDROBE is a collection of clothes that suit you, your lifestyle and have you looking and feeling great— nothing more, nothing less. Too many clothes and you have too much choice, waste money on things you never wear and struggle to decide what to put on in the morning. Too little, and you restrict yourself so much you crave variety. Balance and intentional shopping are critical when creating a capsule wardrobe for the first time. You need to look at two areas when creating a capsule wardrobe; the first is colour, and the second is style. To get started, the first thing you need to do is choose a selection of colours. Ideally, you want to select under eight options. By choosing a limited palette, creating an outfit that mixes and matches becomes simple and easy. A few colours will suit every skin tone during a colour analysis. Below is a small selection of those colours. Each of these shades will suit everyone and mix and match easily. You might notice that I have not included black. Black does not suit everyone, but charcoal and navy do. Alternatively, to find out what colours suit you best, you can opt for a FULL-COLOUR ANALYSIS and then choose colours you like from a broad range of options targeted explicitly for you. The colours below include Blood red, Charcoal Grey, White, Stone, Navy and Fuchsia pink. To build a wardrobe of mix and match clothing that saves you time and money but still has you looking and feeling great, you need to keep it relatively simple. As I said above, that does not mean restricting yourself to the point where your wardrobe feels dull and makes you unhappy; it is just about removing the distractions and the fuss. A minimalist capsule wardrobe is a small collection of versatile, easily interchangeable clothing thoughtfully curated to maximize the number and variety of outfits you can create. A capsule wardrobe allows you to create many different looks for various occasions with fewer clothes. Giving away more than two-thirds of my clothes and building a smaller yet more versatile capsule wardrobe has added so much ease and enjoyment to getting dressed every morning. It’s also helped me hone my personal style and experience fun with fashion in an entirely new way. Use this list to first shop your current wardrobe and build the foundation of your capsule with items you already own. Play with these pieces to see how many outfits you can create while noting what you need to update or add to your capsule to maximize every item. You, by no means, need every single thing on this list. It’s merely a list to reference and consider if you’re overwhelmed, feeling stuck, or don’t know where to begin. Use it as a tool to build your own capsule wardrobe that suits your unique style, preferences, and day-to-day life. Find your best color. Find the color which looks best on you. This will depend on your skin tone, hair color, and eye color. If you have brightly colored eyes, it is usually the same as your eye color. Yellow or green will make red hair look rich, brunettes benefit from purples, and red looks great with black hair. Experiment or ask friends for advice. Choose complementary colors. Once you have a base color to work with, choose some colors that match with it. Two is a good number to shoot for. You can either choose colors that you believe match, choose from a color palette in a magazine.Pick a neutral or two. Now that you have some colors picked out, you’ll want to pick some neutral colors to balance them out. Wearing too many colors will give you a circusy look. Depending on the colors you’ve chosen, add some black, white, beige, brown, or gray. STYLE TRENDS

Minimal Fashion Keep reading to discover how to start your minimalist wardrobe, as well as our favourite brands if you are looking for some initial minimalist staples. The perils of fast fashion are well known. Widespread water pollution through the use of cheap and toxic dyes, mountains of textile waste, the ubiquitous use of fossil fuel-based materials such as polyester, the pressure on cotton farmers… the list goes on. Out of this chaos, a trend is emerging that rejects all that— minimalism. It’s time to ask: is a minimalist wardrobe the key to a happier and more sustainable life? It’s not just fashion that’s gotten out of hand. The ills of fast fashion really just mirror the global thirst for more stuff at cheaper and cheaper prices. This is fuelled by advertisers pushing consumerism at every opportunity, which research suggests can increase levels of anxiety— think FOMO and “keeping up with the Joneses”. If you are sitting there feeling overwhelmed by the pressure of keeping up with technology, cars, or fashion, and don’t know what to do about it, stay tuned. There is a growing trend in opposition to consumerism and fast fashion, which touts benefits such as more time, decreased stress, as well as better financial health and sustainability. And the best part is, we can all do something right now that will impact our overall happiness and footprint on the planet. Minimalism is the antithesis of the modern consumerist narrative—and for good reason. In a global marketplace that wants you to consume more and more, minimalism says “Hey! Have you ever thought about intentionally having less?” Less debt, less clutter, less stress, less stuff. The upshot? Less debt and stress for you, and less valuable resources being extracted for stuff you don’t really need. How to get involved, you ask? Start with your clothes. Slow fashion is the fashion industry’s niche minimalist subculture. Instead of shopping vigorously to keep up with weekly trends and disposing of clothes after one wear on a Saturday night aka financially exhausting and extraordinarily wasteful, the ethos is “buy less, choose well, make it last”. My entry point to minimalism and slow fashion was through my wardrobe. Back when I first started my minimalist journey some 4 years ago, I went through each and every item of clothing I had and either donated, threw away, or kept them. I offloaded about 80% of what I owned and it felt liberating (and that was just the first time). This process literally re-wired the way I think about buying things and the stress associated with consumerism. I now seek quality, more sustainable items or thrifted items over sheer quantity. If I don’t see the shops for months on end, who cares? If I am going to bring something new into my life I have to love it. To this day I have not missed one single item I have given up, because the lightness that comes with purging excess clutter is simply life changing. I invite you to try it… like, now. Follow my process to get you started. Keep only the items that make you feel amazing when you wear them. But before you go and get started, here are some tips. Dressed up well will boost our confidence. BY NIKITA NAWAWI inimalist fashion means having a minimal amount of clothes in your wardrobe that feel right and bring joy. It Mis said to be key to a happier and more sustainable life.

Why Is Everyone Wearing These TRENDY NEWS Car toonish Red Boots? BY SHAWARMA SHAH

Every New York Fashion Week, certain designer items emerge as the fashion crowd’s favorites. Last year, everyone was wearing the Prada logo tank tops and minimal strappy heels by The Row. This past week, however, dainty Manolos were eclipsed by one shoe destined to go viral: MSCHF’s big red boots, aptly named the Big Red Boot. If you’re unfamiliar with MSCHF, they’re the experimental fashion brand that loves using their product releases to make a statement (often controversial ones). They’ve released boots that resemble medical casts, Birkinstock sandals made out of Hermès Birkins, and even Satan sneakers in collaboration with Lil Nas X that featured a drop of real blood in the soles. The label loves to push the boundaries of fashion and, more importantly, to make headlines. Their latest release—which looks like something Mario from Super Mario would wear—comes out today. They retail for $350, are made of TPU rubber and an EVA mid-outsole, and take design cues from a video game. “Cartoonishness is an abstraction that frees us from the constraints of reality,” the press release for the boots read. “If you kick someone in these boots, they go boing!” The monstrous boots were spotted on celebrities and street style stars at New York Fashion Week. Vogue’s street style photographer Phil Oh captured them on Dorian Electra, who styled them with a graphic coat, mini skirt (to fully show the shoes) and a matching red beret. Model Sarah Snyder paired with a glossy red skirt and white tights; TikTok star and model Wisdom Kaye styled them with athletic shorts. The consensus seemed to be to allow the statement boots to be the focal point (and it would be hard not to). Outside of the fashion set, there’s also been a handful of stars rocking them as well. Basketball player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander wore them to the arena before a game; Diplo wore them to watch a Knicks game; Given how impractical and unusual the footwear is, it’s been a surprise to see how quickly—and how widespread—the fashion world has hopped on them, before they’re even released no less. They’re certainly a commitment to wear: A number of TikTok videos show how much of a workout it is to get them on and off. But if fashion people love one thing, it’s a gimmick, and these boots had everyone talking and noticing them this season. Those who dared to wear them get bonus points for the risk-taking. Though something tells us they’ll be as obsolete as a Nintendo 64 come next season.
