TIPS AND STRATEGIES ON TOEFL TEST

Example: You hear the sentence "He will start working here tomorrow",
and you see a choice of answers that say something like this: "He will
begin working in the office tomorrow". Here you see the word 'begin'
which is synonymous with 'start'. Then you can choose this answer.
2. Avoid similar sounds
Avoid answer choices that if you read the sentence sound similar to the
second person statement in the audio. For example: if you hear the word
'search' in a second person question in the audio, then avoid the answer
choices where one of the words has a similar sound when read out like
'church'. Etc.
3. Find who, what, where
Often also appear in the TOEFL Part A listening questions that are asked
is "who is the man?", Or "what does the man / woman mean?", Or
"where does the conversation probably take place?". For the former, the
answer to a question like this is usually the position, or profession of the
person speaking. To be able to answer this question you have to really
get information about what they are talking about, so you can guess
roughly who is talking. For the second question, you are asked what the
second speaker meant. And for the third question, here you are asked
to answer roughly where the conversation took place.
To answer the questions "who", "what", and "where" you have to pay
attention to the sentences they say so that you can imagine the
context..
