FROM PALESTINIAN EDUCATORS
A ll children have much in common: they are innocent, tender,
have fertile imaginations and love to play. But while Israeli
children attend summer camps where they learn to draw, swim,
write and play, many Palestinian children attend camps that also train
them to hate, fight, and even kill. Israel’s educational curriculum is
based on peace, reconciliation, democracy, tolerance, and respect for
the sanctity of life. The Palestinian Authority’s educational system
includes delegitimizing Israel and promoting
blind hatred of Jews.
How else to explain the young girl at her year-end
kindergarten graduation painting her hands blood
red as she reenacts the lynching of two Israeli
soldiers in Ramallah. How else to account for
nursery school children burning Israeli flags as
they march proudly with toy assault rifles pledg-
ing to continue holy war until “all of Palestine” is
liberated. Why else would children be taught the
techniques of urban guerilla warfare, the rewards
of “martyrdom” and jihad against Jews.
In the Balata Refugee Camp, a stronghold of the
Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, children covet neck-
laces that feature pictures of “martyrs.” It is
reportedly difficult to find a child in the camp of 20,000 who
isn’t wearing a necklace. Said Munir Jabal, head of a Balata
teachers association, “They worship these pictures. I think it
will lead them in the future to go out and do the same thing.”
“The staff hopes it will produce a generation
of children able to kick the Zionists out of
Palestine and liberate the Palestinians.”
