Obituary
On April 17 Douglas E. Smith, the son of William and Carole (Novington) Smith, passed away peacef ully at home surrounded by his f amily f ollowing a battle with glioblastoma. He was 57.
Born August 20, 1963, Doug attended Jefferson County Joint Vocational School and studied graphic arts. Following his high school graduation in 1981, Doug began working at the f ormer Ed's Quick Print on 4th St. in
Steubenville. He attended the f ormer West Liberty State College where he studied Business, but he ultimately became a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 246 of Steubenville
and recently retired.
Doug had an extreme interest in genealogy and has compiled quite an impressive f amily tree, one that has been traced to the actual immigrants f rom England, Scotland, Wales, Hungary, and Bohemia (modern day
Germany).
Throughout his jobs and genealogical work, Doug has met many people whom he considered f riends. He enjoyed the conversations he had with those in the different courthouses, libraries and genealogical
societies he f requented while pursuing his genealogy.
One of Doug's greatest passions was being an uncle. He loved his nieces and nephews and enjoyed the time he spent with them. He was quite proud of all of them.
In addition to his parents, Doug is survived by his brother Bill (Lindy) Smith and his sisters Brenda (Jim) Anderson and Judy (Rob) Davis; his nieces and nephews Jenna (Taylor) FitzGerald; Billy Smith; Brianna Zarych;
Ted (Lauren) Anderson and Elizabeth Anderson; Anthony, Jonathan, and Bethany Davis; and a great nephew, Radley FitzGerald. He is survived by many cousins, aunts, and uncles whom he loved, as well as the
signif icant others of his nieces and nephews whose company he enjoyed: Brooke Piergallini, Kelsey Poole, Bradly Newburn, Cole Roscoe, and Lacie Adams.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Evelyn (Carter) Novington and paternal grandparents Earl Smith and Ruthora (Davis) Smith Kirkpatrick.
The f amily would like to thank the team at Charity Hospice f or their care during Doug's f inal weeks.
Calling hours will be Tuesday f rom 4-8 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Additional visitation will be held at the f uneral home on Wednesday f rom Noon until the time of
