Tennis
All of fifteen, clueless of the skills essential for lawn tennis, I chose it as my sport
only to realise that the ball had a mind of its own. Despite all the failed serves
and injuries, I trained relentlessly under the guidance of my coach, Mr. Neeraj
Singh, striving each day to be better than the previous one. Playing tennis
conditioned my mind and body, inculcated decisiveness while nurturing in me
the spirit of sportsmanship. It imbibed in me the skill of strategy, nurtured
mental toughness, and I adopted the “never give up” attitude, which I believe
will be useful in every challenge that I face in life. When I look back at my journey,
I remember all that it has given me, never forgetting the fifteen-year-old who
once stood nervously in the large tennis court not knowing whether the tennis
ball would finally listen to her. The court is where I really grew up to be the
confident young woman I am today, and I owe it all to you, Welham.

If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools.”

Farewell
Despite being unable to spend their
last year in school, the Batch of
2020 were given a final goodbye
the traditional way. After all the
hurdles they had to face, it was a
night that celebrated their long
association with Welham, as an
institution and a home, and of the
resilient spirits they had fostered
that they would carry with them,
as their own personal legacies.
