PRINCIPLE OF TEACHING

Being a teacher was Teaching with open arms and
not an easy job. You heart is what I want to
need patience,
dedication, passion, emphasize in my job as a
and the ability to do teacher which is embracing
more or less. Teachers
are human and they the students and making
aren’t perfect. Some them feel at ease while
of them might think learning even a difficult
that being a teacher topic or subject. Being
must be perfect, and approachable and
must knowledgeable.
Little do they know understanding towards the
that teacher made students is very important
mistake too. We are
not always right, and as I myself was a student
vice versa. We should too, and feeling scared to
treat our students learn is the main problem for
with respect, equally
and politely. the performance of the
students. All success in
teaching will come aligned
with being kind-hearted and
hardworking as teaching is
not a job just to gain income
but also to grow the future

of the world.

MICROTEACHING

In my humble opinion, I think microteaching is very
essential especially to future teachers like me. This
subject not only teach me about lesson plan, but it
also teach me how to manage my future students,
teach me how to make the class become more
interesting with using numerous of teaching aids
and method. Besides that, this subject also has
taught me almost everything that I needed to
become a good teacher with all the online material
and aids which is I can implement even in the
physical class during my internship. Overall, this
microteaching course is very important because
we are given opportunity to choose our own topic
and teach a short lesson in continuation for 4
stages on each technique taught by my beloved
lecturer. I wanted to make sure that I teach my
students with objective and aim so that they can
excel in every aspects.

""WEEK 1

Today is my first day of class, we learn about the
qualities and skills of a teacher. Madam asked for
our feedback to know our idea and perception
about the topic. Next, Madam briefed us about the
scheme of work, assignments, projects, and
portfolio.

Besides, we also started to form a group for the
assignment that required group work which could
be started the following week. I had myself
cleared with the gist of the subject and the
assessment in order for me to get prepared a
little bit before starting the assignment to make
sure my group and I will be on the right track

In week 1 also the lecture was started with topic 1
and the learning outcome for the subject also had
been explained by the lecturer. On topic 1 I have
learned about 'What is microteaching?',
'Microteaching skills', 'Teaching process', and
'Principles in microteaching

In week 2, the lecture was focusing on the teaching and
learning objectives as shown in the pictures above, and the
SMART criteria for learning outcomes. There are also ABCD
statements of learning objectives which are as guidance on
how to create the learning objective. At the end of the class,
there are exercises for us to identify the ABCD statements in
the examples of objectives given and there is also a discussion
between the lecturer and students about 'Why do teachers
need to share learning outcomes or objectives with students.
Apart from this, we had a discussion session today, where we
are required to share why teachers need to share learning
outcomes/ objectives with students? As per our discussion, we
are required to share the learning outcomes/ objectives
because students will be aware of the topic, they will have a
mindset to prepare for the lesson, students will be accountable
for what they going to learn and they will also learn to achieve
the objective. We also discussed how we will share the learning
objective?

As we discussed and shared our ideas, I was amazed by all
the techniques shared by my friends. I enhanced my
understanding of the topic and I will definitely use the
techniques in my real classroom. As well as that, I also
learned about the blooms taxonomy, Madam taught us about
writing learning objectives based on Bloom’s taxonomy.
Effective learning objectives need to be observable, and
measurable, and using action verbs is a way to achieve this.

As for today class, we learnt about how to write a set
induction as this week is our mock teaching week. Today’s
lesson was focused on Set Induction which is also called as
anticipatory set. Madam taught us on how to introduce the
topic, lesson of the day and give an overview of the topic
to students and there are various ways where teacher can
start with verbal questioning, give hand-outs and show
audio visual to grab student’s attention.
Apart from this Madam taught us about 4 strategies for a
good set induction which are attention getting method,
interest method, putting lesson in context and advanced
organizers. These strategies are so important and it will
definitely be useful during my internship. All this while, I
though set induction is not important in a lesson plan but
through today’s lesson, I got to know that set induction
stage is very important in a lesson plan because this is to
gain student’s attention, activate student’s prior
knowledge and to provide an overview about topic of the
day. It was very interesting to learn on the strategies,

As for today's class, we learned about how to write a set

Today’s topic was carried forward from the last class
which is on Set Induction. In today’s class, Madam shared
with us how to implement all 4 methods in the set induction.
After that, we discussed the activities that we would carry
out for each of the strategies given, activity for online It
was fun and there was teamwork because we discussed the
activities with our friends, posted in Padlet, and presented
our activities.

This lesson helps to improve my ideas of teaching a set
induction. I learn that set induction is not about greeting
and introducing the topic, it’s about how we start the lesson
effectively, it’s about how we gain students' attention and
it’s about how to determine students' expectations. I learned
about teaching aids. Although I have learn it 3 years ago,
this time is a bit different because usually, we create a
teaching aid for physical class. Due to the pandemic,
everything has changed. Every teacher needs to create
teaching aid visually. Teaching aid is very important to every
teacher out there because the use of it may bring students'
attention during class. I love the sharing session we have in
every class because through this I get to learn more about
the ideas, suggestions, techniques, and activities that my
friends share in the classroom.

The new topic which is important for our next microteaching
is stimulus variation which focuses on non-verbal and verbal
communication in the class. This topic is about how the
teacher could make the students engaged in the learning
process which we need to demonstrate in our next video
that needs to be submitted and reviewed the next week. By
the end of the class, we were given a task which is to
demonstrate the stimulus variation discussed in the group

""WEEK 7

Today’s lesson is about questioning techniques, Madam
taught us about types of questioning techniques, and
strategies to handle the student’s responses to questions. In
this lesson, Madam gave us detailed information with a clear
explanation. This is a very beneficial questioning technique
to be used in everyday classrooms. Every teacher trainee
should master these techniques because this is the tool to
test students’ comprehension of the subject, encourage
discussion, seek information, and promote student-to-
student interaction. I have learned about questioning
techniques which are about how to give good questions to
develop thinking. The bloom taxonomy is also applied in the
questioning techniques. There are a lot of examples of good
questions discussed in the class and we also learned how to
handle the student's responses all the examples were shared
in Padlet. An example of handling students' responses is by
giving them a compliment when they could answer the
questions.

""WEEK 10

Reinforcement skills, Madam taught us in detail the oral
positive, non-verbal positive, close contact, oral negative,
and non-verbal negative. It is an important lesson, every
teacher should master this because to teach these 21st-
century students we can’t be implementing the old
reinforcement method. This is an eye-opener for me,
because previously when I was studying in a school, the most
common method that teacher uses is, if students perform
well and are on good behavior, the teacher will give them a
stamp but if the student perform poorly and be in bad
behavior, students will be physically punished, for example,
canning and pinching. In tutorial class madam as we all did
simple mock teaching which in add the reinforcement skill
just to make sure we all understand and can apply that skill
very well.

""WEEK 11

I have learned about the last stage in the lesson which is
closure. The same goes to set induction, and closure I also
learned the techniques and strategies. By the end of the
class, there a task was given to be done in the group and we
have to suggest 5 ways that we would do the closure. There
are also about 20 examples of activities shown by the
lecturer that could be interesting for closure in the lesson.
This stage is important for teachers and students because
students will show their understanding of the lesson through
the closure activities while teachers, they will get to achieve
their learning outcomes. Besides that, Madam shared how to
end a lesson in fun ways effectively. It was so interesting
and as a student, even I was excited to learn all the types of
activities.

""WEEK 13

This week I learned how to use a whiteboard in the
classroom and I learned what and how to write on the
whiteboard and also how to make good use of the
whiteboard. Today’s lesson is about the usage of
whiteboard/ blackboard in the classroom. This is an
important lesson for every future teacher because we use
whiteboards to write down ideas, topics, and information,
and teach and explain. Hence every teacher should know
how to use it in a correct way, for instance where to write
day, date, topic, and learning outcome. Next, I learned in
detail how to organize on a whiteboard and ways to use it
in the classroom. Madam gave us various tips for us to
improve in writing on the board.

Week 5 and Week 9

Project 1 was divided in two task which is Task A and Task
B. We are required to find online teaching tools and
prepared 5 activities based on the main skills in the
language. From this project, we found a new online tool
that definitely would be useful for me to use in the
classroom for teaching. For task B we need to create a
blog for self-directed learning. My group and I choose
wix.com to post all our activities for 4 main skills in the
language. It was kinda hard to find a suitable and easy-to-
access blog as most of it required to pay and need a lot
of procedures. However, we managed to use wix.com for
the project. As a result of the presentation, I learned
about many online platforms like neared, visme, word wall
and getmind, wix.com I was very amazed seeing their
lesson and the feature they discovered.

Next, I would like to talk about my task where we
used the Wix website, I have little knowledge and
experience from previous assignments and
courses hence I didn’t face any difficulties in
doing them. With the support of my loving team,
we were able to complete it successfully.
Certainly, for task B we were required to share
and present. Again, I learned a lot from my
classmates, there are teams that used different
platforms in creating their ESL blogs. Not only
that, I saw various types of lessons and the
creativity of my classmates in organizing them, it
was fun and interactive.

Project 2 was also divided into two which is task A where
I need to conduct mock teaching from set induction until
closure. All the stages were recorded part by part and
submitted and also reviewed by the lecturer and
classmates. Every stage in the lesson required us to
conduct the lesson based on the criteria given in the
checklist. While for task B, I need to make E-portfolio for
the subject which contains all the reflections for the
whole semester of learning this subject and also reflect
on all the assessments done. Both of these tasks were
done part by part which was somehow helpful to reduce
the load of work but makes me feel unmotivated to
complete it as every week I had work to complete. So, it
makes me feel like I just need to complete the task
because the deadlines feel shorter and on the other side
some parts I am not doing it correctly as I want to
submit it on time because the submission is every week.
However, I have to improve more on my teaching skill,
strategies, and techniques to make my real-life students
engaging. Moreover, this mock teaching project helped
me to explore in detail the lessons, teaching platforms,
and materials. I would like to thank Madam for giving us
an opportunity to choose our own topic and we were
also given the privilege where we were allowed to record
our mock teaching presentation to be shared during our
online class hence because of this I could manage and
organize my lessons well.

I would to express my sincere Thank You to
my respective lecturer, Madam Nirmala for
guiding and giving necessary advices
throughout this subject. I would probably
unable to complete my lesson plan and mock
teaching in an appropriate manner as her
feedback gave me much inspiration to
improve my teaching skills. The whole
semester in learning this subject I realized that
there is a need of big preparation before
going for practicum and teaching. All the
assessment and task were very helpful even
though its quite hard to complete it properly
but it still helping me to take note on what I
need to improve in terms of my preparation
before internship and also my time
management. The lesson for the whole
semester also fun and interesting which I
found that I am engaging the most in the
lesson of this subject.
