HI, I´M LEENASHINI JOSEP Funfacts Age: 22 years old I love animals! Ambition: teacher Matrix no: 2072021090025 About me Favorite colors I love teaching! I love nature! STPM (SMK SeberangJ Jaya) Bachelor in TESL (Management & Science University College Penang Education: Email: [email protected]

Hi! My name is Leenashini Josep. I was born in 2001 and I live in Penang. I'm now enrolled in my fifth semester of a bachelor's degree programme in TESL at Management Science University (MSUCPNG). After SPM, I completed my STPM at SMK Seberang Jaya, which is situated on the Perai mainland. My enthusiasm in studying English language and teaching was the key factor in my decision to enrol in the BTESL course. In addition to being a noble job, it also enables me to continually be innovative and advance professionally. I may improve my creativity in every session by including something engaging to hold students' interest. Teachers today have a lot of freedom to be innovative and try every way to create the best learning environment for their students. My primary motivation for being an English teacher is to fulfil my inner desire to assist others learn a language. The profession centres on teaching students how to communicate by passing on linguistic and cultural information. The intrinsic reward that many instructors seek for is the successful transfer of information. Teaching has always been my love since it expresses my inner desire to assist others, to share my knowledge with them, and to remain in other people's thoughts. About me!

PERSONAL PRINCIPLE IN TEACHING Being enthusiastic about what you teach and assisting students in learning are two of the most crucial teaching basic principles. It should be all about inspiring in the pupils a real passion of learning, as well as curiosity, knowledge, and experience. The practise of teaching beyond the confines of the educational system and permeates all spheres of life. As we need to learn from our instructors because we do not know everything, teaching plays a significant role in our lives. Our teachers provide us particular facts about things, and this knowledge is crucial to our lives. Overall, learning pertinent information about students and using it to our course design and classroom instruction are essential components of effective teaching. Other than that, learning objectives, assessments, and instructional activities must all be in harmony for teaching to be effective. Explicitly stating expectations for learning goals and rules is necessary for effective teaching while prioritising the knowledge and abilities we choose to emphasise is a necessary component of effective teaching. If the fundamental principles of teaching and learning were ignored, the complicated profession of teaching would become chaotic. Having stated that, the changes in our environment lead to the addition of new principles every day.

OVERALL REFLECTION OF MICROTEACHING CLASS As a student of microteaching, this subject helped me learn methods that are used in teacher education to acquire instructional techniques. It uses actual teaching situations to develop abilities and aids in learning more deeply about the teaching. I've attended both lectures and activity sessions throughout the past 14 weeks as a student. I have also gained knowledge of the theoretical and practical elements of teaching. These would help my ability to integrate theory and practise in the future as a teacher. I gained knowledge on how to implement Bloom's taxonomy, SMART objectives, the ABCD method, various teaching techniques, different kinds of teaching aids, and DSKP's content, which is a tool for instructors to use for advice, during the lecture session on the subject of microteaching. Additionally, because microteaching focuses on honing and refining particular teaching abilities and eradicating faults, it has helped me increase my confidence level. In my upcoming teaching sessions, this will allow me to gain confidence and be ready for a range of classroom circumstances. For instance, I recently finished my microteaching session with my classmates, in which I had to perform a mock lesson in front of 40 pupils. This aids in reducing my trepidation when instructing and helps me become a better teacher. I am also really appreciative of having a lecturer like Mr. Lachel Ardi Rupin, who was very encouraging during the entire 14-week learning session. With the direction and assistance of Mr. Lachel, I was able to complete all of my projects and tasks, including simulated lessons and examinations. He was also extremely helpful in providing a lot of constructive feedback, which gave me the chance to learn from my errors and advance my teaching abilities. In conclusion, I want to thank my lecturer, my students, and my teammates for helping me finish all the assignments and projects over this entire learning session.

Weekly Lecture’s Reflection

Week 1 Date: 16/2/2023 Time: 9:00 am – 11:00 am The first class of microteaching was pretty good, and I also felt some nervousness because it was a combined class with my seniors and juniors. So, there will be more students than the actual class. Since our previous instructor had left the institution for further education, we were introduced to a new lecturer, Mr. Lachel. Me and my classmates were excited to get to know Mr. Lachel because he is the only male lecturer for Bteslians. He entered our classroom and introduced himself. Then he asked us to introduce ourselves. We had some fun introducing our names to him. Later on, he starts his lesson by briefing the class on the overall subject and explaining our projects and portfolio. He also mentioned that microteaching subjects don’t have final exams, but we do have two tests. He also guided us on how to make a portfolio by showing some examples.

Week 1 Date: 17/2/2023 Time: 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm The following day, during tutorial class, we studied about the introduction to teaching and microteaching from chapter 1. In addition, we studied the fundamentals of microteaching as well as the eight different kinds of microteaching abilities. We also studied the value of and implications of creativity in education. After reviewing the slides, Mr. Lachel created a kahoot game and provided us with a link to play it. We are eager to play the game, which involves general knowledge questions. We enjoyed answering the questions and learning more about the answers that were shown on the slide. After that, he went into further depth on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference).

Week 2 Date: 23/2/2023 Time: 9:00 am – 11:00 am On the second day of class, we learned about the teaching and learning objectives in Chapter 2. Mr. Lachel went through his slides and gave us an explanation of the significance and advantages of learning outcomes (LO). Additionally, Mr. Lachel outlined the "SMART" learning outcome's (LO) essential five components. (S)- SPECIFIC (M)- MEASURABLE (A)- ATTAINABLE (R)- RELEVANT (T)- TIME BASED After a ten-minute break, he resumed his session and focused on how to create an effective lesson plan. He also provided a quick overview of the significance, function, and qualities of creating a lesson plan. We also learned five levels of writing a lesson plan which are daily planning, weekly planning, unit planning, term planning and yearly planning. At the end of class, Mr. Lachel informs us that he will go into further detail on learning outcomes in the upcoming lecture due to time constraints.

Week 2 Date: 24/2/2023 Time: 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm Our instructor went through the crucial components that have to be in a lesson plan in detail. Furthermore, he described how to interpret the CS and LS in context with the learning outcomes. Additionally, we learned how to categorise the ABCDs as learning outcomes. Bloom's Taxonomy was also introduced to us by Mr. Lachel, who also taught how to use it in learning objectives. Later, he assigned a group activity in which we were to locate the letters A, B, C, and D in a LO sentence. For further comprehension, Mr. Lachel offered our telegram group several instances of how to spot the A, B, C, and D in a LO statement.

Week 3 Date: 2/3/2023 Time: 9:00 am – 11:00 am Mr. Lachel assigned us an individual essay to write entitled "Discuss the importance of creative teaching" for our third week task. He granted us a break after we submitted the essay. He went over the three different learning styles with us after the break, outlining their traits and approaches. We discovered that there are three different learning styles: kinesthethic, auditory, and visual. Following his explanation, we were better able to comprehend the strategies, according to Mr. Lachel.

Week 3 Date: 3/3/2023 Time: 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm For the essay we completed on March 2nd, we received the scores and feedback on March 3. For the essay I wrote on March 2nd, I received a score of 17 out of 20. Following that, Mr. Lachel, our lecturer, covered subject 3, which is about set induction. We also learned about the benefits, methods, and standards. There are four sets of induction strategies which are attention-getting method, interest method, putting lesson context, and advance organiser. Then, Mr. Lachel assigned us to groups of four and asked us to come up with two tasks for each of the strategies we had studied. There should be two activities: one for the online class and one for the traditional classroom as well. Additionally, we had to recommend only one subject from the CEFR curriculum for each activity.I'm happy that I absorbed and put into effect Mr Lachel's advice on how to gain attention during the entire class.

Week 4 Date: 9/3/2023 Time: 9:00 am – 11:00 am We were instructed by our lecturer, Mr. Lachel, that we must present and turn in Task A of the Project next week.He also mentioned that Test 1 will be held on the same day. Then, he continued lecturing on Topic 4 Stimulus Variation. Before beginning to teach the new material, he reviews what we learned in subject 3 in the context of allowing us to play the Google Jamboard game. As part of the session, we were expected to complete a group work in which we identified a topic and discussed with the group members how to present it to other students. We had to plan the stimulus variation tactics that we would utilise in our demonstration. Each group should have one member deliver, and the rest must identify the stimulus variation used by the presenter.

Week 4 Date: 10/3/2023 Time: 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm The next week, our sir provided us with a few tips for our upcoming test. Following that, we covered subject 4, which was verbal and nonverbal communication.

Week 5 Date: 16/3/2023 Time: 9: 00 am – 11:00 am The test paper was provided as we entered the classroom. The test paper has 50 multiple-choice questions. We finished our exam after an hour, and the questions were a bit tough. We had our regular 10-minute break before beginning our Task A presentation. Groups 1 and 2have completed their presentations, and the remaining groups will do so the next day.

Week 5 Date: 17/3/2023 Time: 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm As a member of Group 3, we begin our presentation for Task A, which is followed by the rest of the group.

Week 6 Date: 23/3/2023 Time: 9:00am – 11:00am The answers to Test 1 that we took last week were discussed by our lecturer, He discussed the solutions with us patiently, despite the fact that he was quite upset and unhappy with the Test 1 scores that he received. As soon as we had finished debating the solutions, Mr. Lachel, our lecturer, moved on to topic 5, questioning technique. He reviews the fundamental 5-WH strategy that all students and teachers should be familiar with in order to respond to inquiries in a variety of contexts. Additionally, he provided us with more specific instructions on how to distinguish between open- and closed-ended questions.

Week 6 Date : 24/3/2023 Time: 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm On March 24, our instructor, Mr. Lachel, divided us into five groups, each with three people. From the list he shared in the Telegram group, he chose a title at random for each and every group. Do you need a college degree to get a decent job? was the question that my group received. We had to make the case that teenagers nowadays don't actually need a degree to get a good job because we were in the opposite camp in the debate.

Week 7 Date: 30/3/2023 Time: 9:00 am – 11:00 am Topic 6, or reinforcement techniques, has been covered in class. Mr. Lachel describes the tactics for reinforcement and provides some examples based on classroom scenarios. Words or actions that inspire students and urge them to participate in class are examples of positive reinforcers. Giving a student vocal praise or nodding in agreement with their response, for instance, might build their confidence and encourage them to react further. Since the topic is lengthy, we won't be able to complete the debate session with the group members who haven't participated in debate yet.

Week 7 Time: 31/3/2023 Time: 3:00 am – 5:00 pm I go to class on March 31st just like I always do. Teaching Aids in Language Teaching is the topic that Mr. Lachel, our lecturer, covered in class. A pyramid of learning was introduced to us. From passive to active learning, that is how the pyramid will work. The function of teaching and learning was another thing we discovered. He also educated us about the three different kinds of instructional aids: audio, video, and visual. He assigned a task that required groupwork before our lesson was over. Five teaching tools that you may utilise in a virtual classroom are discussed and suggested. For each instructional tool we offered, one action must be described. We must also specify the skill on which the recommended action was based.

Week 8 Date: 6/4/2023 semester break

Week 8 Date: 7/4/2023 semester break

Week 9 Date: 13/4/2023 Time: 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. As we entered our classroom, we took our second test. Our lecturer informed us that the second test will be given during the semester break. He also exhorted us to study well and focus on a few topics in order to respond to the multiplechoice questions. I answered the questions as well as I could. The questions seem a little simpler than test 1 to me. I'm hoping to perform well on test 2 and surpass my test 1 score.

Week 9 Date: 14/4/2023 Time: 3:00pm – 5:00pm We are required to present our Task B, which is a blog. One representative from each group has to present their blog. For my group, one of my teammates presents our blog.

Week 12 Date: 5/5/2023 Time: 3:00pm -5:00pm After a lengthy absence, we reunite with our peers and our lecturer. Our lecturer, Mr. Lachel, asked us how our vacation went before the session began. He then introduced us to a new subject matter, topic 8, which is about lesson closure. This lecture covered a wide range of issues, including the value of closure before, during, and after class. He also allowed us to view some animated videos that would show how a class would conclude. He does this to prevent us from getting bored with extended lessons after a break and to aid in our understanding.

Week 13 Date: 11/5/2023 Time: 9:00am – 11:00am We attended a photography workshop and sharing session that the Education English Language Society and the Photography club had organised. The CANON Malaysia company led the photography instruction session.

Week 13 Date: 12/5/2023 Time: 3:00pm – 5:00pm Mock teaching session started. Students take their turn to conduct the lesson according to their lesson plan. Mr Lachel starts to evaluate their mockteaching.

Week 14 Date: 18/5/2023 Time: 9:00am – 11:00am Students continued with their mock teaching

Week 14 Date: 19/5/2023 Time: : 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm Students continued with their mock teaching

Week 15 Date: 26/5/2023 TIME:3:00am-5:00pm Today was my turn to conduct the mock teaching session. I was felt nervous because this my first experience to conduct a mock teaching session face to face. As my lesson plan, I successfully conduct the mock teaching session within the time allocated. I was really satisfied with my mock teaching due to excellent participation of my classmates as students.

Project 1 : Task A

We were expected to create a teaching tool in the form of an educational game that is suitable for teaching and learning ESL in the twenty-first century based on Task A. The educational game should contain the four core abilities of listening, speaking, writing, and reading and should be related to ONE topic chosen from the KSSM/CEFR curriculum in any format. As a result, we designed a board game. In accordance with the numbers, they roll on the dice, students must move their token. On the number, there will be a few inquiries. According to their knowledge and abilities, students must respond to the questions. I did my part by creating the writing-related questions. I sought for writing tasks based on different food topics as we selected the food theme. I simply recognised that it was incredibly tough to incorporate writing skills on a board game based on my own perspective after looking at and reading the information. Then I came up with my own, pretty challenging writing prompts with a food theme, such as constructing sentences with pre-given words. Finally, we successfully used every skill in our board game. This would enable us to conduct our class in an inventive and creative manner.

Based on task B, we must create a blog with a series of activities for each of the four language skills. For each skill, we had to design two activities. Thus, there should be 8 activities and 4 skills altogether. Additionally, we had to select one topic and design every activity ourselves. Therefore, we selected chapter 3, which is about the wonders of nature, from the Form 3 English textbook. I decided to prepare the activities based on writing skills. We chose the theme of nature; therefore, I came up with two alternative activities. The students must come up with a writing prompt. The implications and changes that take place in a world without seas are the subject of this creative writing prompt. Haiku, a type of short poetry, will be the subject of the second writing activity. With regard to the nature-themed photos they prepared, students must express their views and opinions. Since only one person from each group is allowed to present the blog, Vaishnavi, a member of my group, presented both the general blog and the activities we developed. TASK B

Project 2 : TASK A

We were to carry out an individual mock teaching according to Task A of Project 2. Following that, I made the decision to concentrate on speaking as the primary skill and listening as a complementary skill. The three activities I prepared to lead the students in are Activity 1: Dealing with peer pressure Activity B: Pick and answer it Activity C: Speak using quantifiers In my opinion, the learning objectives are almost achieved due to the excellent participation of the students throughout the lesson. Their responses whenever i asked questions show that they understand and are able to talk and listen according to the obtained information from the video about peer pressure. Since I was unable to conduct the lesson plan within the time allocated for activity 2, students could not participate longer and discuss their answers together, which couldn’t help to achieve the learning objectives fully. In my view, my lesson went well due to the student’s excellent cooperation and readiness to follow my instructions, I had no issues with participation when I conducted the lesson, which is listening and speaking activity. They also respond anytime I ask them questions about the topic which is ‘Being a teen’. which is our topic. This made it easier for me to carry out the activity efficiently. The thing that went wrong during the lesson is I was lack of time. So, I couldn’t involve all the students to complete the activity 2. As the improvements, I planned that the sequencing and flow of the lesson must be arranged, but it should also be adaptable. If my students aren't prepared, i should not jump right into a new section of the lesson. If the students have a firm understanding of the subject, I can go on to the next section. In addition, to ensure that the students are understanding what is being taught, I must check in with them frequently. Overall, I was satisfied with my mock teaching due to excellent participation and responses from students. Although this is my first mock teaching that I conducted in face-to-face class, I felt I was conducting the lesson better than the mock teaching that conducted through online. Moreover, I also would like to improve my nervousness which is my main problem during conducting a lesson.

THANK YOU
