I t is also known as ‘Bunga Raya’, the national flower of Malaysia. In Malay, ‘bunga’ means flower, and ‘raya’ refers to a celebration. The red of the petals symbolizes the unity of Malaysian people of various races, and the five petals represent the five Rukun Negara of Malaysia. Hibiscus has been used in traditional medicine that helps to lower blood pressure and reduce cholesterol level. Hibiscus is a herbaceous plant with trumpetshaped flowers and found in warm temperate, subtropical and tropical areas throughout the world. Jasmine Sunflower J asmines are beautiful tropical blooms that thrive in warmer climates. The smell of jasmine can be found in everything such as candles, perfumes, soaps and lotion. The jasmine flower is usually white, pale yellow or cream, which symbolises purity, modesty, senS suality, innocence and honour. unflowers are annual plants whose round flower heads in combination with the ligules look like a glowing sun. Sunflower is a symbol of steadfast loyalty, everlasting faith, optimism, good fortune and happiness. wLAVENDER Lavender has many uses. For example, lavender essential oils have calming effects, reducing anxiety and improving sleeping quality. It also symbolises silence, devotion, purity, serenity, grace, and calmness. Lavender plants are small, branching evergreen shrubs with grey-green leaves and long flowering shoots. The soothing smell and pretty colour make them attractive to people. It is native to the Old World and is found in Cape Verde and the Canary Islands, and from Europe across northern and eastern Africa, the Mediterranean, southwest Asia to India. E mperor penguin is the tallest and largest penguin in the penguin family, and it is also the only penguin in Antarctica that breeds in extreme winter when the environmental temperature is as low as -40 degrees Celsius. The females lay one egg at a time, and the male hatch the eggs. The melting of sea ice caused by climate change is threatening its population. Polar bear is the largest bear in the world, living within the Arctic Circle. One interesting fact about polar bears is that they have black skin and hollow fur, rather than white. Polar bears have a thick layer of body fat under the skin, which helps to insulate cold air and enables them to live in a low temperature environment. Malayan Tiger Malayan Tiger can be found in the tropical forests of Peninsular Malaysia. Malayan Tiger is the national animal of Malaysia and is regarded as a symbol of bravery. Locals call it ‘Harimau Belang’ because its pelage serves as camouflage during hunting. Malayan Tapirs are the largest among the four types of tapirs in the world, mainly living in the tropical jungles of Malaysia’s lowland peninsula. It is pig-like, with a short snout similar to an elephant’s. The black and white colour body makes Malayan Tapir unique from other types of tapirs. Bornean Orangutan Orangutan means ‘person of the forest’ in the Malay language. The Bornean orangutan can be found in the tropical forests, lowland rainforests and swamps on the island of Borneo. The Bornean orangutan is a species of great ape that share approximately 97% of its DNA with humans. They have broad faces with cheek pads called ‘flanges’ and shaggy dark reddish-brown hair.
