Page | 1 Shri Swar-2022-23 Editorial Dear Parents, We are highly thrilled to share with you the “Fourth” edition of our own Parents Magazine – Shri Swar. We are overwhelmed by our parent’s contribution in showcasing their creativity for the Parent magazine, which in turn has grown from leaps to bounds. We can proudly say that we all are The Shri Family in a true sense, where the participation and contribution is not only from the child but also equally from the parents. We deeply appreciate the efforts of those parents who have rendered their contribution to make this magazine a blazing success. As mentioned by Oscar Wilde “Art is the only serious thing in the world. And the artist is the only person who is never serious.” We are sure that the positive attitude exhibited will surely stir the minds of the readers and take them to the surreal world of unalloyed joy and pleasure. We hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as we enjoyed making it! Thanks, Parent Editorial Team

Page | 2 Shri Swar-2022-23 From The Principal’s Desk `Happiness multiplies when we share. When we as the school and parents share the joy of raising happy, passionate citizens of the country who are driven by purpose, when we nurture our children to be the best version of themselves, when we come together as a family to do the best for our children and when we have a shared sense of responsibility towards not only our children but the community at large. That is when we transcend from being just a school to becoming an institution driving change. As the leader of this beautiful institution, I take pride in my team as they have accomplished a herculean yet rewarding task of 9 Form Evenings, 9 Shri Khels and a vibrant 'All About Culture' event. It has been an extremely gratifying and eventful year. Hope you all have had a great year and carried back memories to cherish. This year will also be etched in the School's history as our first batch of Grade X will be passing out this year. Shri Shubhashish, the special farewell was our way of expressing our love and blessing our Shriites. I take this opportunity to invite the entire parent community through Shri Swar to bless our students with a bright future. SHRI SWAR is my pride. A strong bond with the parent community is not a fancy statement in different documents. It is an emotion in action. One of the testimonies for this emotion is Shri Swar. Kudos to the parent magazine committee for their tireless efforts to bring to us another string of mesmerizing pearls. Happy Reading! Dr. Jyothi Reddy Ghanta Director Education and Founder Principal

Page | 5 Shri Swar-2022-23 The Science of Happy Parenting in this Modern Age Feelings of happiness, satisfaction, and fulfilment are the emotional characteristics of happy parenting. Although the word "happy parenting" can be defined in various ways, it is said to involve positive feelings and parental pleasure. One of the key components of Happy Parenthood is “The balance of emotions”. Philosophies of parenting As per the survey, a parent's parenting style, gender, age, and ability to create strong emotional relationships with their children are all associated with their level of happiness. Theoretically, many parenting philosophies can be used, one being "child-centric," and intensive parenting— While a child-centered approach to parenting keeps the child and their desires first. Under intensive parenting, parents invest significant amounts of time, money, and energy in raising their children. The approach under intensive parenting is 'child-centered, emotionally absorbing, intensive and financially expensive. Although much more research is necessary to understand this gap, the theorists suggest that the child's age may be a contributing factor. While intense parenting of early children may need more effort and attentiveness, child-centric parenting of older children may yield more rewards. What traits in a child might affect how contented their parents are? The majority of people who have spent a significant amount of time with children might tell you that some of them are easier than others. Furthermore, it's been found that there is a high correlation between these changes and parents' happiness. The parents appear to be less happy when they have a child with a difficult or sensitive temperament—but happier when they have an easy one…..relatable? Every child is beautiful and just as every one of us is unique. Love and traits do have a connection that affects all relationships. One of the differences of all the other ties, which is selflessly inclined, is the one between a child and a parent. Parents are extremely happy as long as they have emotional responses for a child, later once when children get older and don't live up to their parent's expectations, the child-parent love bond begins to deteriorate. This phase will typically come and go over time if both parents and children understand the most important thing, which is "Communication."

Page | 6 Shri Swar-2022-23 Impact of the technology boom on parenting How can parents ensure that their children are utilizing technology safely and beneficially? Parents are more worried about the impact technology will have on their children. As it develops, concerns like gaming addiction, violence inflicted online, and other such issues. The amount of time that youngsters spend using electronics is something that parents wish to limit. Adults view this as a daily need. People express their belief that family bonding time is being reduced by technology. We must acknowledge that technology will be a part of our lives. There are countless advantages to technology, But more crucial, we parents should talk to them about it. How often do parents ask their children what they did on their devices? The technology's benefits come from discussing it. To get the most advantage from the content, you should watch it within reason and then later chat with kids about it. The key is the combination. To support parents, we must change the way we view technology. We, parents, can’t keep a close eye on our kids always; instead, we need them to let up a bit. We don't want kids to be policed, spied on, or have their usage forbidden. The world we live in, where we check our phones 50 times per day, is also home to children. Children won't understand the value of technology if we act as though they are still in the 1980s and let them succumb to media-induced anxiety. To Conclude Given that happy parents use more positive parenting strategies and positively influence their children's motivation, academic success, and peer connections, they are more likely to have happy children. Each parent and each child are distinctive in their ways. “There is no such thing as a perfect parent. So just be a real one.” –Sue Atkins Happy Parenting! Page | 7 Shri Swar-2022-23 Wanderlust “One must travel to learn.” – Mark Twain Wanderlust is a strong desire to travel which is the best form of learning. Travel is a unique and immersive way to experience different places, cultures, languages and expanding our worldview. In August 2022, we planned a road trip to South India. The journey took us through stunning sceneries and exposed us to different architectures and rich cultural diversity. Our trip started from Hyderabad and covered various cities of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. This trip took words and projects from our book and brought it to life. Day 1: We started from Hyderabad, our city, capital of Telangana and IT hub and reached Bangalore, the Silicon Valley of India and capital of Karnataka. Day 2 & 3: Early morning, we started for Madurai, a city in Tamil Nadu. Madurai is one of the oldest cities and is known for its magnificent temples and rich cultural heritage. We visited the famous Meenakshi Temple, which has beautiful architecture and intricate colourful carvings. On our way to Temple, we explored the streets of Madurai which had colourful shops and delicious street food including the famous Jigarthanda. Day 4:Next morning, we bid goodbye to beautiful morning skies of Madurai and went to Rameswaram, a small island town. We entered Rameswaram through the famous Pamban Bridge which connects Rameswaram to Mainland. We stopped a while to visit Ramanathaswamy Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. We then went to Dhanushkodi, an enchanting and unbelievable view of two water bodies on both sides: Bay of Bengal on one and Indian Ocean on other.

Page | 8 Shri Swar-2022-23 Since it was 15th August, we paid homage to the great son of India and ex-President, Dr. Abdul Kalam by visiting his house, which taught us significance of simple living and high thinking. After lunch, we started our journey to Kanyakumari. On our way near Tuticorin we came across mesmerizing view of white Salt fields which gave us an illusion of snow-clad fields. After 5 hours of travel, and having seen salt fields, the largest operational land shore windmill farms, we reached the southern tip of mainland India, Kanyakumari. Day 5 and 6: It was exciting to wake up in Kanyakumari, the place where 3 water bodies Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea converge. We went to Vivekananda rock memorial, Triveni Sangam and also experienced the famous sunset and sunrise at Kanyakumari. Day 6,7and 8: 6th, we reached Kovalam and enjoyed the breath-taking scenery, beaches and delicious Kerala food. We visited the famous Padmanabhaswamy Temple, situated in Thiruvananthapuram the capital Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and has a beautiful huge Vishnu idol lying behind three doors. On 8th day, we started our return journey to Hyderabad via Bangalore. This trip gave us a lot of learnings and some of the most lovely and beautiful memories. “Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” – Ibn Battuta Shveta Verma Nagraj, Parent of Arya Nagraj - 3C

Page | 9 Shri Swar-2022-23 Education helps you to become a better human being. Education happens in our everyday life. Mother Nature teaches you new things every day, and education we receive from books help us to groom our self to become a better person. Education is learning how to give importance to everything, it’s about respecting others, it’s about discovering, it’s about exploring. Education is not forcing someone to mugging up something, education is about understanding. Fortunately, in Shri Ram Universal School all the faculty will help kids to learn better with the help of so many events, they teach kids importance of Mother Nature, how to take care of plants, save soil, respect elders, to be sportive and supportive, they also teach them beauty of helping, donation etc. which helps them to become a better human being. Education on your marks sheet might bring you appreciation but Education which reflects in your body language brings your recognition, so put in practice what u learnt. I am happy for choosing Shri Ram Universal School for my kids as they understand what true education is. Thank you for giving this opportunity! Page | 10 Shri Swar-2022-23 Parenting of AI minds One fine evening, I sat with my 6-year-old ward, Only to find out that making her study is hard. These children of modern age are so smart, They very well know - "how to send back the dart". Knowing, they are living in the world of Chat GPT & Bert, I started solving the riddles "wrong". As expected, the young ML/AI driven mind Started proving herself to be strong! She seemed surprised "why her training model is throwing incorrect result", As if trying to figure out - "What malware has mingled with this adult?" While I was feeling confident, that I gave the AI "a nice spin", To my surprise, at the end, she said, "Are you Happy now - that I let you win?" Similar to as we build technology to support us in the thick and thins, Seeing our children surprising us gives us supersonic wins! The million-dollar question still stands upright - "Is it us who gave birth to AI or is it them enlightening us bright?" They learn from YouTube, share on Instagram, experiment at speed of light, Leaving us to wonder that “Parenting of AI is really tight!" Context: I was finding it hard to make my 6-year-old to study, I start solving the sums wrong speaking loud enough so that she can hear my logical reasoning why I am reaching to a wrong answer, she started correcting me. I was feeling good that my trick had worked, only to find out later that she knew from start. Tarun Suneja Parent of Sukriti Suneja - 1 D

Page | 11 Shri Swar-2022-23 Building Character with Sports Growing up in the 1990s, in a typical Indian middle-class household, the life of a child revolved around academics. parents of that generation who saw the India of scarcity saw a safer passport in academics to a future of security and stability for their children. while not practically wrong, they often side-lined other spheres of life that also help in all-round character building. one such area that often got neglected was sports and games. when played competitively, sports not only help in physical development but also nurture one’s character and psychology through practical experiences. besides recreational value, they bring situations to test our character and help build judgement under duress. competitiveness, resilience, hard work, teamwork, patience, respect for others, pushing against adversities, facing failures and self-awareness are only a few things we learn while playing competitively. and as adults, we know that these are not mere qualities anymore but some ‘life skills’ needed to wade through the ups and downs of modern life. our sporting heroes such as sachin tendulkar, roger federer, lionel messi and others are not just the greatest icons of their sport but have also shown qualities and character on the field that we can all emulate. in my school days, my father was a big influence in me picking up interests in various sports. major global sporting events like a football or a cricket world cup, the olympics, asian games, hockey, badminton and tennis tournaments were observed very immersive in our household. my parents even successfully bribed me to focus on academics by promising my favourite sporting equipment as a reward for the desired academic results. looking back fondly, i see these acts as foundational to the interests in various sports that i have played over the years and enjoyed. so, i urge all children to shut down devices and play outdoors. as interests develop, your parents may also consider formal training to nurture your potential. always remember that when you play, you never fail. you either win over your opponent or you win over your own self. so, let the ball continue rolling!! Page | 12 Shri Swar-2022-23 Let them soar! Sometimes kids do what parents think otherwise or that they think will be difficult for a child to do. When my daughter, Mahita was very young and was learning to speak, I was skeptical on usage of multiple languages. You see, I come from Gujarati background while my Husband’s is a Telugu family. We were concerned, if we use multiple languages at home, she might get confused and her speech might get delayed. We reached out to couple of doctors with our concern and they assured - in fact insisted that we use our languages to talk to our child. Surprisingly, her learning curve was very steep, within couple of months; she picked up both languages very well. Before she turned 3, she changed language looking at who she is speaking too! Fast forward to PP1/PP2 grades, she mastered speaking another two languages – English from school and Hindi from her best friend! Sometimes children surprise you with what they can do – Let them soar! Unhe udne do, Unka aasman unhe chun ne do! Priyanka Champaneri Parent of Mahita – 3C

Page | 13 Shri Swar-2022-23 HAPPINESS IS A WAY OF LIVING Happiness has a different definition to every one of us, that definition is unique. There is always something good that can come from any situation, good or bad. It’s a matter of attitude. People who are happy tend to focus on the things they do have. In other words, instead of worrying about not having enough money or not being able to find a partner, people who are happy tend to look at all the wonderful things that they do have in life. We should enjoy the small things and search for good in every situation. We are often trapped in a loop of sadness and despair, surrounded by things that discourage us from being happy and living out our best lives. SRILAKSHMI NERALLA Parent of Sriansh Neralla - 5G.

Page | 14 Shri Swar-2022-23 Cherish Thirty-five years ago, I used to be driven to school every day by my dad on his white LML Vespa scooter. I used to stand in the front holding the steering, the journey used to be fun with wind in my hair, counting the number of bogies on a train when we used to top at the railway crossing, all the while, secretly wishing for a toffee enroute to school. This by far was the best memory of my childhood. Later on, while growing up into my teens, I have gathered more memories of getting drenched in rains, sleeping on rooftop in cold breeze during summers gazing at the beautiful stars, walking back home with a bunch of neighbourhood friends on Saturdays as it was a half-day and buses were fewer around lunchtime. Played cricket, football, marbles, and innumerable cycle races in which I always got admonished for being late after playing with friends. All these and many more memories which I have made as I progressed in life. The most important lesson I have realized in life is to make memories, often beautiful ones as much as possible with family, friends, teachers, life at school, then in college and while having a career. All the memories we are able to make and keep with us are the biggest and rarest assets we can own. Memories are the only assets we self-acquire 100%, so strive for making as many as possible and cherish them always. Do remember, in all pursuits selflessly try to achieve and give your best shot. Failing in an endeavour does not matter, as long as you have made yourself a memory of having given your endeavours the best possible attempt! Surya Kiran Kondapalli Parent of K Sai Rithwik - 3G

Page | 15 Shri Swar-2022-23 Happiness'. In this modern busy era, emotional health is more important along with physical health. Happiness plays a key role to keep us mentally healthy and focused. We should determine ourselves for being happy than miserable as happiness is just. The state of mind but not the situations around us would always make us happy. We can be happy by spending quality time with our family and friends, doing the activities in which we are interested like colouring, arts, crafts, reading a book, playing games. Etc. Page | 16 Shri Swar-2022-23 Go Green – Save Soil, Ways of Saving Water, Composting Population growth and lifestyle changes are causing a global environmental disaster. Resource overuse has caused soil deterioration, water shortages and ecological damage. We must act now to rescue the earth by adopting green habits. Saving soil, water and compost will help us become green. Reducing chemical fertilisers and pesticides saves soil first. These compounds degrade soil long-term. Instead, support organic farming using natural fertilisers and herbicides. This will save the land, our health and the plants and animals that depend on it. Planting trees and other plants is the second soil-saving phase. Tree roots keep soil in place, avoiding erosion. They also absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, lowering greenhouse gases. Water conservation follows. We must save water. Fixing house leaks and drips saves water. Dripping faucets waste a lot of water. Lowflow shower heads and toilets conserve water too. Changing our behaviours can also conserve water. While brushing teeth and cleaning dishes, we should switch off the tap. We should also take shorter showers and avoid small load washing machines. Composting is crucial third. Food waste and other organic materials are composted into nutrient-rich soil. It improves soil health and reduces trash sent to landfills. Home composting requires a container or pile. Add food trash, yard debris and other organic items to the container and let nature take over. Nutrient-rich compost may nourish plants and promote soil health. In conclusion, becoming green is crucial for our world. We can increase soil health by composting food waste, decreasing chemical usage and correcting leaks. These tiny actions may have a big influence on the environment if we all do them. Page | 17 Shri Swar-2022-23 Book Summary Book Name- “You Can Win” Written By- Shiv Khera This book contains the facts about success and the attitude through which you determine the goal. Author mentioned in his book ‘You Can Win’ that “SUCCESS does not imply that challenges are not present; rather, it entails overcoming them. The number of times we get back up after falling determines our success, not how far we climb in life.” Why to read you can win? This book can help you reach your objectives and live a fulfilling life. You’ve probably heard of the power of positive thinking, also some of you tried to be positive all the time but what about the power of negative thinking? Here you will get to know about positive and negative effects on us. The power of positive mind and thought instils in you the determination to succeed. Negative thinking gives you the ability to fail if you let it. Do you know! Positive and negative both plays important role in life. But some take it too high, some stick with it, and some even do not try that. Qualities are needed for success & why most people face failure. People face failure because of their attitude. Eighty-five per cent of the time a person gets a job or a promotion due to his attitude, and only fifteen per cent because of intelligence and understanding of specific facts and figures. Through this, you can analyse how your attitude play important role in professional life is. This book is all about achieving that 85% success rate which is not easily adopted by individuals. The most significant word in the English language is attitude. It applies to all aspects of one’s life, both personal and professional. Is it possible to be a good executive without having a positive attitude? Is it possible for a student to be a good student without having a positive attitude? Can parents, teachers, salespeople, employers, or employees perform well in their jobs if they don’t have a positive attitude?

Page | 18 Shri Swar-2022-23 Regardless of your chosen career, attitude is the cornerstone of success. Shouldn’t we analyse our attitude toward life and wonder how our attitude will affect our lives if the attitude is such an important part of success. How to build a positive mind-set or attitude for success? Top 10 ways to be positive all the time: 1. Optimize your thoughts (take everything in a positive way) 2. Dealing with disappointments and failures (rather thinking too much accept your failures and restart your journey to achieve your goal) 3. Become more empathetic and understanding (understanding and showing kindness to others which help to make good friends and will help you to recover from bad moments) 4. Starting every morning with strong yoga, exercise or listening to some motivated and relief full songs to make your mind calm. 5. Take care about self-help instead of others’ help. 6. Avoid logic less gossip, instead of it involves jokes and tries to smile all the time. 7. Focus on long term goals instead of short term. 8. Prepare a path to achieve long term goals according to your budget and circumstances. 9. Listen to music according to your mood. 10. Build the habit of reading (reading should be anything like novels, quotes, ritual books, motivated content on google etc) 11. Speak less do work more with great patience. All these points would be superb options for youth. If they adopt it soon, they will reach high in his life soon. Moral of Book “You Can Win” This Book teaches individuals to transform every negative thought into a positive. In daily life routine circle, we got challenged through our surroundings to make minds discouraged about anything related to issues at the time You Can Win Book said to us no need to be discouraged it will take your all success achieving power try to transform your negatives into positive vibes. Page | 20 Shri Swar-2022-23 Biodiversity Conservation: An Overview Biodiversity is of vital importance to mankind to maintain a healthy ecosystem; each species plays an important role, in balancing the population, and maintaining the food chain and natural cycles on earth. It makes the environment a self-sustaining and selfregulating system. It can be regarded as a boom to mankind and the choir of life because it sustains life on earth in addition to aesthetic, cultural, and many more benefits. But today, being a part of the modern developing world, we have indiscriminately exploited earthy resources throwing the ecological balance off. Everyone knows that the earth as well as nature is the most valuable asset nurturing and nourishing all the living organisms but today this "Mother Earth" is in great danger itself. This has not become due to any other factor but rather due to mankind: due to our mentality to be a part of the modern world. This is today's demand to be developed but for what kind of development is this which is decimating and destroying our planet day by day? Global warming, acid rain, the greenhouse effect, and many more climate change have been recorded but we are aloof with all these things, we should not forget the Covid-19 pandemic and its hazardous effects. Even WHO recommended natural herbs for its prevention and control. Our earth has everything but habitat loss and fragmentation, extinction of species, deforestation, overexploitation of natural resources, etc. have kept us away from our mother earth. The topic regarding the conservation of biodiversity and our planet cannot be described in a few words. I want to conclude my thought with "Ye dil maange more" conveying the message to everyone that biodiversity is the backbone of our life, and we should conserve it and we should conserve it not only for us but for our motherland and future upcoming generations. Page | 21 Shri Swar-2022-23 My Dear Daughter My Dear Little Princess, When I held you in my arms for the first time I felt as if I am born again. When you touched me with your little fingers for the first time, I realized the power of touch and how a simple touch can arise so many emotions. Since then, it has been delightful to watch you grow. As you grow you have started observing me and trying to do things like me. You want to do many things at a time just like how I manage family and office, you want to play with your friends, learn art, practice dance, secure top in academics, and many such things. Though as a mother I wish you would do all that I could not do when I was of your age but immediately the woman in me awakes and reminds me that you are a separate human being, and you must become much better than me. So as a mother, I want you to do things in your style. But as a mother who always loves you and cares for your well-being, I want you to know a few things so that you can achieve your goals. The world you are growing is like a beautiful garden filled with many colourful flowers and at the same time, there are thorns beneath the flowers. So, I want you to be careful in holding those flowers. I want you to learn how to differentiate between good and bad. To achieve your dreams, you must prepare yourself for all the battles you face during this journey. You must be tough at times at the same time should not lose your inner softness. As Mr. A P J Abdul Kalam has said 'Dare to dream and care to achieve' you should not be afraid of dreaming big just because of these obstacles. Whatever the work you are doing you should learn to enjoy the work you are doing and remember that success is not the destination but a journey. As a mother, I am always there to support you physically, and emotionally and there to prepare you for your beautiful journey of life. With love, Your mom (Sivapriya) Parent of Sarvani - 3C

Page | 22 Shri Swar-2022-23 PEER PRESSURE – OF MODERN AGE PARENTS Nowadays, a line that dominates every parent's conversation is "Our Kids belong to a changed generation". When emotions run, Mothers like Me with full motherly rights rant about the absence of good habits, manners, not listening to anyone, then claiming we were model kids… and the breathless mothers go on.., leading to fathers suddenly realizing their duties towards the distressed wives and going off to pull-up the little monster being discussed, but who, taking advantage of the busy adults in this deep exchanging of notes had sneaked off to watch that cartoon show, suddenly finds himself in the limelight to be read out a moral story on behaviour. We even manage to convince grandparents about the non-cooperative mannerisms of the kid or maybe they don't have a choice except to agree while we are in that mode. After creating near havoc, the mothers then go into the analytical mode to assess "am I harsh?" Is it fair that everyone lectured my kid? It's a repeat telecast…. When my son came with some other kid's toy in tow, I was devastated because I visualized myself in a police station bailing out a grown-up thief. I forgot those summer afternoons when I waited for the aunties to sleep so that I can climb the trees and steal mangoes. Surprise!!! My profession is not Robbery. Maybe my son inherited my genes, went searching for the tree, but failing to locate it in the concrete jungle, instead got the toy. When my two kids gate-crashed a birthday party wearing pyjamas and after having their fill of cake and pizza, dared to ask for a return gift… to be told that it is only for the invited kids, I felt that Earth should swallow me up. I forgot my cousin's hostel stories of gate-crashing weddings. Genetics were again into play. Now I am not sure whether my embarrassment was on gate-crashing or because they did it inappropriately dressed. After over-analysing my reactions, I realized - It is not because the kids are changed but because we Parents have not changed. We belong to times when ranks mattered! Today all kids are bright, but in our times, ranks determined if the child is bright or not. Unfortunately, if you belonged to the category of "brightness", then, to keep up

Page | 23 Shri Swar-2022-23 that shining, had to work double hard. Ranking was prevalent in academics, sports and almost everywhere. We wanted to become role models "Padosi ke bacche" aiming to make everyone around us proud and for this pride to manifold, we expected Good Characteristics which we acquired over years to be inbuilt in our kids. Why it shouldn’t because this is also genetics right? It is we, who are facing Peer Pressure from other parents and other kids also, to achieve a high rank in the field of reproducing perfect kids as We Are Conditioned to Compete. Happy Realization! The "Cool" grandparents who were not in cut-throat competition in their times can match their wavelengths with the grandkids. So, it's us 'Parents' who are the odd ones out. Maybe it's a good idea to take CHILL PILL. Signing off till the next avalanche of emotions grips me……. Page | 24 Shri Swar-2022-23 Work. Save. Travel. Repeat! Travelling is another school for Children. Every tiny step away from everyday life is a new experience for children, who absorb everything like sponges. It's an opportunity to show them the world, varied diversified cultures, traditions, languages &give them new experiences. In other words, you are turning the world into a classroom. Travelling with kids can be magical and at the same time, it can be stressful. For many parents the question of 'Is it worth it?' arises when they consider everything that needs to be remembered, from booking child-friendly accommodations to packing & carrying numerous things young children might need. But travelling with children can help their development in many ways, making the answer to the question a resounding "YES, it is worth it!", beneficial even. Travelling with kids helps the elders to slow down and experience life and the world in greater variety, which in turn helps them to rediscover their inner child. Below are a few ways our little ones & even us might benefit from travelling together. Building Stronger family relationships, the ability to adapt & adjust, igniting curiosity, and becoming Independent & responsible. Nature becomes their science teacher, the places they visit their history and social teacher, and the maps their Geography teacher. The kids visualize the textbooks in a completely different manner. Into a glimpse of my Life: I'm not a travel freak by nature& would love to enjoy my selfrelaxing indoors most of the time. But as you all know opposites attract each other so here comes my mate (and mate's Khandan) who loves travelling and doesn't want to relax indoors. So don't have a choice. In a year, we plan multiple inshort/short/Long travel destinations with a different set of family/friend groups (as a nuclear family/with Grand Parents/with first cousins/with little extended family (The entire Khandan)). This is a thumb rule we follow to have a mandatory travel plan with these groups each year. So, Let's Broaden our Horizons, Explore the fantastic world. You might see changes in your kid's personality which you might not have seen before and it's a beautiful way to grow as a family. Page | 25 Shri Swar-2022-23 Article on CHAT GPT Meet ChatGPT - the friendly robot who can answer all your questions! ChatGPT is a language model created by OpenAI. It's like a super-smart computer program that uses artificial intelligence to understand and respond to the things you type or say. ChatGPT is very special because it has read and learned from a huge amount of information available on the internet. That means it knows a lot about all kinds of things, from science and history to sports and music. It can even help you with your homework! To talk to ChatGPT, all you have to do is type your question or message in the chatbox on the website. ChatGPT will then analyze your question and use its vast knowledge to give you the best possible answer. It's like having a personal tutor or mentor that you can access anytime, anywhere! But that's not all ChatGPT can do. It can also have conversations with you, just like a real person. You can ask it about its favorite color, what it likes to do in its free time, or even ask it to tell you a joke! ChatGPT is a great friend to have, especially when you're feeling bored or need someone to talk to. One of the best things about ChatGPT is that it's always learning. That means it gets smarter every day as it interacts with more people and reads more information. So, the next time you talk to ChatGPT, it might have even more interesting things to say! However, it's important to remember that ChatGPT is just a machine. It doesn't have feelings or emotions as we humans do. So, while it can be a fun and informative friend, it's always a good idea to talk to real people too, especially if you need emotional support or advice. In conclusion, ChatGPT is a super-smart language model that can help you with your questions, have conversations with you, and even tell you jokes! It's a great tool to have, but don't forget to also talk to your family and friends when you need real human interaction. Page | 28 Shri Swar-2022-23 Importance of Coding for Younger Generations Coding today is equated to the language of creativity. In simple words, codes are nothing but the intercommunication process, which helps to give instructions to a computer, and processes our requests. Ranging from smartphones, TVs, and automated cars, codes have become a part of our everyday life. 1. Coding Matures Logical Thinking This encourages kids to follow a logical approach first, break down the problem into sub-problems, and then come up with a solution. So, this whole process is nothing but an exercise for your brain – an exercise that enhances your logical ability and boosts your persona. 2. Coding leads to in-demand career paths Programmers and developers today, are in high demand all over the globe. With coding as a vital skill on your kid’s CV, children may stand out from the others, in the near future. Many companies today subcontract their coding-related works. So by all means, working as a freelancer or as a coding expert can enhance one’s career flexibility, up a notch! 3. Coding Literates kids about – the Bigger Picture! Tell me a single sector that is not dominated by coding today. None right? We rely on technologies in data analysis, finance, health sectors, education, and several other sectors worldwide. So, learning to code will not only help your kid to understand the basic errors in your smartphone but might also encourage them to innovate new ideas. And, this is exactly how and why coding is important for kids. 4. Coding helps to create something for yourself Developing an app is not a matter of a day. And to learn the same, kids will have to start from the basics. But once, they get their hands-on guidance on the functioning of codes, there’s no looking back. So, motivate your kids to digitize their ideas, innovate new thoughts, create an app, and voila! Who knows, your kid might get viral any time sooner or later. But remember, different kids, learn in different ways. So instead of pressurizing them, try to spark curiosity in their minds first, and the rest will be taken care of.

Page | 29 Shri Swar-2022-23 5. Coding builds resilience in kids When children learn to code, they grow the ability to bounce back after failure. And this is one of the most significant reasons, why coding is important for kids. After all, debugging your code is half the fun! Final Thoughts Now that you’ve got your answer to why coding is important for kids, We at Little Inventors (www.littleinventors.in) have come up with an extensive number of STEM courses chiefly designed for kids with the basics of coding that includes programming in JavaScript, Python programming for kids, Programming in Scratch, game development courses online, and several IOT based courses as well. Page | 32 Shri Swar-2022-23 Memories of ‘Garmi ki Chuttiyan’ When I sit beside the window and think, this is the time that brings a smile to my face. My heart gets filled with happiness and nostalgia starts flowing in my body. Don’t you feel the same way? Summer vacation is a time that gives me loads of happy memories; the time we use to wait for the entire year. It was a time of endless fun, wild imaginations, joyful laughs, and cute banters. Vacations just meant eating my favourite ice cream, enjoying ice Gola, feasting on those juicy sweet mangoes and having a glass full of chilled RoohAfza. Honestly, the summer heat never bothered us. The life at that time was so simple. We had no ACs. Coolers were the only way to beat the summer heat. Me and my brother took turns filling the water in the cooler. It was the time my cousins visited us. Days would pass by playing, ludo, snakes and ladder, playing badminton, watching few cartoons that came on TV. Popeye the Sailor was my favourite. Nights would pass by narrating stories to each other. Small family trips to some nearby hill station used to give us so much pleasure. I still remember the day when my Mother told me that we were going to Mussoorie. Me and my brother were so excited and started jumping with joy.Summer vacations for us meant two months of uninterrupted break from school, enjoying and lazing around without being bothered about homework, studies, or waking up early morning to catch the school bus. Ah! What lovely times! Although we have grown up and miss those carefree childhood days, the child within us longs dearly to have those sweetest moments back! Page | 33 Shri Swar-2022-23 Happiness Happiness is having a Friend who puts a smile on your face. The great Aristotle said, and I quote, “Without friends, no one would choose to live even if he had all other goods.” I unquote and the resilient Helen Keller said, “I would rather walk with a friend in the dark, than alone in the light.” I unquote Indeed, the thought of life without friends seems unbearable right? So, what is it about friends that bring so much joy? In one word…. “EVERYTHING” but to be specific it’s the experiences we share along the journey of life. They are the one relationship in our lives that we choose for ourselves, unlike all others. Friends help multiply our joys and divide our sorrows. After all, a win in life would be empty if we didn’t have friends to share it with and how burdensome would life be if we didn’t have a friend’s shoulder to cry on? The strongest friendships are born out of shared experiences and that’s why the classroom is the lab that incubates the truest of friendships. Friendship is all about how many shared laughs and giggles. How many secrets kept? How many naughty sleepless sleepovers? It’s not about the number of disagreements or fights but about coming back to each other talking things out, forgiving, and then laughing about it together for years to come. I wish we had a friendship class in school as no one ever teaches us how to make friends and keep them. I am confident that if you know how to be a true and honest friend, you have discovered an inner treasure that will never be lost and if you are lucky to be blessed with a loyal friend then you have found something more precious than the Kohinoor itself. Be it our most memorable moments or the most embarrassing events, we always need our friends on this joyride called LIFE! So, to enjoy a truly blissful life – learn the skill of being a loyal and supportive friend today because Friendship is like a beautiful, colourful butterfly that will always, always put a smile on your face. Page | 34 Shri Swar-2022-23 Modern Parenting Parenting is the process of upbringing a child into an adult. Like every child is different parenting will also differ according to the child. In the modern age since both parents are working in most cases, the time we spend with a child is less, so the time we spend has to be valuable. Give your child lots of nurturing physical attention. Set clear limits on your child's behaviour. Have realistic expectations. Guide your child through their mistakes and weaknesses. Avoid negative emotional reactions to your child’s behaviour. Page | 35 Shri Swar-2022-23 Happy Me, Happier World Have we ever tried to find the meaning of happiness in a dictionary? Usually we get an understanding of happiness from our parents, from our teachers, from our surroundings, from the people we meet. But this time I just searched for the meaning of “happiness” in a dictionary out of curiosity and got to learn a bucket full of words which define happiness. Happiness is defined by being- cheerful, merry, in good/high spirits, joyful, lighthearted, jovial, gleeful, buoyant, carefree, blithe, smiling, glad, pleased, delighted, elated, ecstatic, blissful, euphoric, overjoyed, exuberant, in seventh heaven, lucky, fortunate, advantageous, favourable, beneficial, opportune, timely, convenient, welcome, propitious, auspicious, fortuitous. I spent some time to understand the depth of each word which led to one single word “happiness”. What I gathered is, in life there will be ups & downs, good & bad but the approach with which we face life helps in attaining happiness. It is Me & Myself who first needs to feel happy then the world will be a happier place to live in. I just found few words which are not in our control like- lucky, fortunate, auspicious, fortuitous. But every other word which defines happiness is in our control. We need to do more of those activities which bring delight, we need to connect with people or places who/which help us to be in good/high spirits, we need to make use of every opportunity that comes on our way so there are no regrets, we need to take things easy & be light-hearted, we need not be worry about things or people who don’t matter and just BE YOURSELF and not pretend to be someone who we are not. We spend our whole life to find that happiness externally. But we never spend time to find that happiness within ourselves. We all need to identify what our heart desires, what actually will bring that wide smile in our face. Sometimes we are afraid to express our real selves in the fear of what the world might think. If that one call with your best friend brings that joy, make that call, if that one night out brings that cheer, go for it, if that one day off from your work doing nothing bring that smile on our face go for it, if that one whole day of reading your favourite book make you elated, go for it. Duties, responsibilities are heavy words which will be there lifelong, but time is a very important factor. How are we making use of our time? Is it about only doing our duties & responsibilities? No, it is about how we make ourselves

Page | 36 Shri Swar-2022-23 happy. We all need to identify the things, the activities, the people, the places that will give us that euphoria. Children teach us many things. Their spontaneity, their fearless nature, their simple way of dealing with things, their easy way to connect with people bring that happiness which make them smile effortlessly. They are happier souls. As we grow up, with too many learnings & the pressures of being successful in life, we lose our real selves. Somewhere we need to find that child within us to bring that cheer & joy. A happy ME will make a happier world. Pritha Sengupta, Parent of Virangana Sen - PK-B

Page | 37 Shri Swar-2022-23 What is a positive parenting & how can we make it easy on us? A positive parent-child relationship is one in which there is open communication, mutual respect, and a strong emotional bond between the parent and child. In a positive parent-child relationship, the parent sets appropriate boundaries and provides guidance and discipline, while also allowing the child to express themselves and make their own decisions. This type of relationship is essential for a child's emotional, social, and cognitive development. Here are some tips to help make positive parenting easier: 1. Practice self-care: Taking care of your own physical, emotional, and mental well-being is important for being a positive parent. When you feel stressed, overwhelmed, or burnt out, it can be difficult to remain patient and positive with your child. 2. Set clear expectations and boundaries: Children need clear expectations and boundaries to feel safe and secure. Establish rules and consequences for misbehaviour and stick to them consistently. 3. Use positive reinforcement: Catch your child doing something good and reward or praise them for it. This will encourage them to continue positive behaviour and build their self-esteem. 4. Practice active listening: When your child talks to you, put aside distractions, and give them your full attention. Listen to their perspective and show that you understand and respect their feelings. 5. Avoid using punishments: Instead of using punishments, focus on redirecting your child's behaviour in a positive way. Use "time-ins" to calm down and talk about what went wrong, rather than time-outs or physical discipline. 6. Show love and affection: Children need to feel loved and appreciated. Regularly hug, kiss, and praise your child to build a strong, positive relationship with them. 7. Be a good role model: Children learn by example, so be the kind of person you want your child to be. Model positive behaviour and use positive language, and your child is more likely to adopt these behaviours as well. Remember, positive parenting is not always easy, and it may take time and practice to develop these habits. However, by making positive parenting a priority and consistently working on your relationship with your child, you can create a happy, healthy, and supportive family environment. Good Luck! Page | 40 Shri Swar-2022-23 School-Dream Wonderland At school, we are taught that questions have unique answers. But as we grow up, we realise that a question may have multiple answers. In life, we are expected to choose optimum or best solution for our problem. However, COVID taught us that some problems have no solution. The aim of education is to explore many possibilities of looking at a problem. Learning means bringing out virtues and qualities that are inherent within us. Expression of these qualities have the power to change lives of others. We learn a lot from our surroundings, nature, and even animals. The effort of a crow, alertness of a dog, focus of crane are some examples. At school, along with learning we are expected to develop our character. This means we should be devoid of pride and disrespect, be humble, patient, learn to control ourselves and be steady. At times, we know what is right, but are hesitant to adapt it. Learn from your failures, hence never be ashamed, if you ever fail. Excellent care, physical activity, psychosocial environment, cognitive and emotional stimulation are considered extremely critical for ensuring proper brain development and consequently, desired learning curves over a person’s lifetime. It is important that childhood education is flexible, multifaced, activity based, and discovery-based education. The present problem with parents, teachers, and students is that everyone is bothered about grades and worried about competition. This is increasing fear and stress - killing the basic spirit behind the learning objectives. What you learn, how logical, and independent is your thought process, can you think out of box, be innovative - all these parameters matter more than your marks or grades. The famous story about Thomas Edison is a great example. One day, he handed over a sealed letter from his teacher addressed to his mother. She opened it and after reading tears filled her eyes. She told Thomas that you are very intelligent, and this school is not good for your growth. They don’t have good teachers, so better I teach you at home. Many years later when Thomas’s mother passed away, and he became a famous scientist, he found small paper in his mother’s room. He broke down with tears as he read the contents. It said, Madam your son is mentally ill, dull and doesn’t fit in our school. You better take care of him at home. Thomas wrote one

Page | 41 Shri Swar-2022-23 more line in that old piece of paper. Yes, Thomas was indeed a dull student, but he was made into a great scientist by his great hero, his mother. This story clearly depicts how performance in school may not reflect your future career. This of course does not mean you should neglect studies or not aim for good grades. It just tells that you can change course of your life at any stage. A philosopher once said, tell me about your friends and I can tell your future. Understand the real meaning behind this remark. Friends play big role in making or destroying our life. Therefore, during school life, our company, behaviour, and attitude will decide our personality. Unfortunately, many parents neglect these aspects and cover-up their children for wrong doings. Good, thoughtful parenting is important not only for our own children but for other children around. Early childhood growth is school dependent as kids spend 6 -7 hrs daily with teachers and friends. The impact of school friendship and memories of teachers are carried throughout the life. So, let’s be happy, make our home happy and enjoy our happy school. . Dr VM Pandharipande Grandfather of Anveshi Maurya - 6B

Page | 42 Shri Swar-2022-23 Parenting in the modern age The Science Projects & Experiments – Creation of Ferro fluid What do you do when your child wants to recreate kryptonite as a school science project after watching Avengers or is trying to apply magnetism to every practical application possible, soon after he discovered it at school ? Our crazy family’s youngest member is out there looking for science in every aspect of life and his experiments in this journey of discovery takes us through the most memorable and yet paradoxical moments of parenting. So one day our son came back home from school, all excited about Ferro fluids and it’s amazing applications such as rotary seals in computer hard drives to reduce friction, in loudspeakers to dampen vibrations and in medicine as a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Now he wanted to recreate the magic at home after watching a few Utube videos and reading a Wikihow article. The ferrous ingredients were scraped from his junk yard under the study table draw and the binder solution from vegetable oil in the kitchen. The experiment was a complete failure and according to the analysis of Dr Dextor, (our son) the cause was attributable to inferior quality of ingredients. The protagonist conducted a thorough research in Amazon, added suitable items to cart and approached the ‘chief financer’ (Mom) for approval at an opportune moment after dinner. As per SOP (Standard operating procedures) established between us parents the proposal was examined and denied for economic reasons. Dr Dextor was asked to look at more alternatives at home. Dr Dextor used his persuasion skills and ordered the ferrous material online through his ‘chief consultant’ (dad) within his pocket money resources and also convinced him to borrow some petrol from the scooter to act as the binder solution. He even created a contraption with a syringe and a long straw

Page | 43 Shri Swar-2022-23 to draw out the petrol from the tank. With all the ingredients in place he managed to put together the Ferro fluid and ran around exited showing off his success to the world around him (friends, neighbours and grandparents). We (mom n dad) on the other hand were relieved for the culmination of the experiment and were gearing up for the challenges in cleaning up the mess that was left behind. But little did we know that another innocent question was leading up to the next experiment – “Dad how does a magnifying glass work and can I really burn something with it using the sun’s energy?” Vijay Shankar Ganesh Parent of Harsh - 5A

Page | 44 Shri Swar-2022-23 “Think, but with the hats on” “Hello everyone. For two hours, we have been talking about how to convince the residents in our colony to separate dry and wet waste. But it has been more of arguing and less of a structured discussion,” Maanya seemed frustrated. “It is because we have all been thinking in different directions. Aayan has some good ideas, but most of us are trying to find faults with him. Abdul has done excellent research, but we are ignoring the facts and harping on what we intuitively feel might work,” Tanvi chimed in. “It is because we are mixing up all kinds of thinking styles – creative, positive, constructive, logical, intuitive thinking. There is no structure and the discussion is going nowhere.” “You are right. I’ve learned an excellent tool called ‘Six Thinking Hats’ by Dr. Edward De Bono. Instead of thinking in different directions, we can all think alike at any point. We’d all be creative together. We’d all look at the positive side of the situation and then find the negatives together. This would be more productive.” “I have also read about the thinking hats. We don’t have any real hats here, but we can definitely imagine ourselves putting on colourful hats,” Tanvi added. “You have been leading the discussion today, Ankita. You can wear a blue hat and keep a tab on time. You can sequence the hats and make sure we don’t spend too much time with a single hat. You may also take a note of the points and summarize at the end.” “Thank you. We can start with a white hat and gather the facts around waste segregation in our colony. We’d list whatever we know is true. For example, the fact is today only 30% of the residents are segregating the waste.” “Then we can pick up the creative or the green hat. We can come up with as many ideas as possible to solve the problem. No criticism of the ideas at this point.” “Like awarding those residents who recycle the wet waste at their homes,” said Abdul. “Yes. And that would be the perfect occasion to wear our yellow hats. We can engage in some positive thinking and look at the sunny side of things.” “Yellow like the bright sun. I think the idea of training the residents on the importance of waste segregation is brilliant.” “Good point, Rajesh. We can pick the black hat after the yellow hat. Here we’d go over the pitfalls and risks. For example, we need

Unfortunately, most of us are black hat thinkers and we look only at the negative side.” “That is not the right way to look at the hats. No one is a black or a white hat thinker. We have to try all the hats. Someone who is positive by nature will also have to look at the negative side and vice versa. That is how parallel thinking works.” “Don’t forget the red hat. We can reflect on our intuition. We can share our feelings of what we think would work and what wouldn’t. I feel it would take at least a year to achieve more than 90% waste segregation at source, so we shouldn’t be impatient.” “Yes and we can pick any hat again as the need arises. We can have another round of green or yellow hat thinking.” “All this sounds brilliant. Organizing our thoughts this way and supporting each other would be really fruitful,” added Pooja. “Before we pick up the thinking hats, it is time for some snacks. I feel really hungry.” “Oh, we don’t need a thinking hat session to decide what snacks to binge on, do we?” blurted the usually reticent Aakash, as the room burst into laughter. Page | 46 Shri Swar-2022-23 What is real Happiness? As they say, “Magic happens to those who believe in it”. Same is the case with Happiness; it is a state of being in blissfulness & does not need any materialistic support for experiencing it. But the sad truth is that the meaning of happiness has changed, or you may say has evolved over period of time. There is a thin line between pleasure & real happiness. Pleasure is temporary but happiness is forever. Happiness should be kept first irrespective of anything that comes in our life. In today’s materialistic world, which is strongly influenced by social media, pleasure is always mistaken as real happiness. Real happiness is when your Soul feels it & and not only your body. People are often mistaken as selfish or greedy if they care for their happiness first. The good part is that life, everyday gives us so many smallsmall events when real happiness can be felt. But the sad part is that since we are so engrossed in our day-to-day rat race, we tend to ignore them. We focus more on short term pleasure rather than real happiness forever. Penning down some of the small gestures which can bring real happiness into one’s life. ● Helping someone when in real need ● Going that xtra mile to make a difference in someone’s life ● Giving back to society in whatever way we can ● Sharing your food when someone is really hungry ● Treating everyone equally ● Staying away from toxic rumours ● Talking to self-everyday ● When your soul feels good ● Stopping at the red signal even if you are alone ● Keeping regular touch or motivating someone during rough patches of life ● Respecting every life equally in this planet Disclaimer: This is not the exhaustive list by any means, you can keep adding the stuff which gives you real happiness. The book is already creating waves and has won the third place in The Poetic Caesura Awards. Islands in the Stream have been published by Authors press and the cover of the book looks resplendent with gleaming shades of different hues on water. In fact, the title of the book and the cover picture complement each other very well. They not only lure the readers to peak into the hidden treasures inside but also hint to the peaceful content that they are going explore. The book has been divided into two sections titled Nature’s Rhapsody and Life’s Foibles. As the title suggests the first part of the book contains poems that brings the universal elements of nature alive. While the second part of the book talks about human nature, memories and desires. The author has meticulously opened the Nature’s Rhapsody by quoting Lord Byron and Life’s Foibles by quoting Langston Hughes. Flipping through the pages of her debut book readers can feel the Breezes… making your skin prickle. She brings into life all the elements by the delicate use of words. Any poem you pick to read, be it on the morning, the moon, the firefly, the rain, the sunflower or the frost, you cannot escape the ethereal touch the author lends to the poems. Each word creates a vivid imagery of the nature in such a way that the readers find themselves in the lap of the Mother Nature. It is difficult for me to say which one of hers is my favourite. As I read through A Languid Morning followed by An Ode to the Night, Eos’s Sojourn, Nights and Days… till the last in the series each captivated my heart with its rich vocabulary and imagery. The poems from the Life’s Foibles makes the readers sink deep into sea of emotions humans carry. Sonal Singh has very gently touched all the emotional cords. In fact, the very first poem in this section is titled Islands in the Stream from where the author has derived the name of the book is a masterpiece and philosophical in nature. Sonal’s poems are full of optimism and cheerfulness. Even the ones that muse over the gravitas of life leave the reader with an uplifting spirit. The highs and lows of human emotions are well penned by the poet. The striking feature of Sonal’s poetry is that each poem is a muse that can be savoured by the readers. The poems leave an impression in the mind that lingers and makes the readers come back to it again and again. The rich vocabulary may at times compel the readers to open dictionary to grasp the meaning of the word and thus leaving them enriched with new words and their usage. The poet has effortlessly written poems on several styles,
