Our 2nd Annual JoAnn McGovern
Memorial Golf Tournament was
a “hot” success. We moved the
tournament to Silverado Resort
and Spa in the Napa Valley during
Memorial Day weekend 2017. It
turned out to be an incredibly hot
day with record highs of 110 degrees.
Our golfers and sponsors not only
endured the heat, they helped us
raise $40,000 to aid in the fight
against pancreatic cancer. The
money went to the Pancreatic
Cancer Action Network in memory
of our mother.
Thanks to all who played, donated
and volunteered to make our
2nd year such a success.

We took some fun road trips, even after she was diagnosed with
Brett McGovern gives Tim Reid the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 he won! cancer. One was to Yellowstone National Park with the kids. There
wasn’t a waterfall we didn’t hike to. Eventually, the kids revolted:
They weren’t interested in seeing another one. We stopped next
to a beautiful river and she waded out into the middle of it with
her pants rolled up and her arms outstretched. My daughter
Avery followed her out and did her best copycat, just not as far
out. My mom lived in the moment and was always up for
something fun. – Brett
Joey went back to school when I was 10 years old to
become a licensed psychiatric technician. She hadn’t been in
school for years. For months, she would spend hours studying
at night and I am pretty sure she finished in the top 5 of her class.
I remember her knocking it out of the park and being impressed
–Caseyby how hard she worked and how it paid off.
When I was 11, I hit the golf shot of my young life.
A 3-wood shot that landed only a foot from the hole. As I walked
to the green with anticipation to make my birdie putt, I saw my
mom skipping across the green. She
scooped the ball up and skipped
off with it. I remember feeling
unamused, but I can still
remember her laughing. She
just was having a great time
being out on the golf course
-with her family. Jon
