Welcome To Our Unit Caption: Our Cadets and CFAV at the Canterbury remembrance Parade in November 2022. Our first full remembrance parade since COVID-19. Canterbury Sea Cadet Unit, also known as "TS Courageous", has taken on the challenge to partake in the Big Help Out for His Majesty's, King Charles III, coronation weekend. Canterbury Sea Cadets is holding this open event to show the community what we do and hope to encourage the youth of today to join, maybe even some adult volunteers too. Here at our unit, we give all our dedication to cadets and staff. With a comprehensive training programme, a second family and a safe space to enjoy their time, while developing vital life skills. Canterbury Sea Cadet Unit has grown in the last year, with new command, new cadets and a new chapter. In this brochure, we are going to show you as much as we can...
About Us TS Courageouse, "Training Ships Courageous", named after HMS Courageous. HMS Courageous was the lead ship of her class of three battlecruisers built for the Royal Navy during the First World War. With 14 current cadets on our books and 11 active uniformed volunteers, we are forever thriving to become a bigger, better and more successful unit. Canterbury Sea Cadet Unit was founded in 1934 by the late Captain Vansittart Howard RN. To this day, we still operate and bare the same Training Ship name as we did back in 1934. We hold dear our unit and want to continue to develop our younger generation with vital skills that they will learn with us, here at Canterbury Sea Cadets. Training is a vital part of what we do and our UTO has many plans for the upcoming year. Lots of what we do is certified by external agencies, so it has a real world value to what the cadets go on to learn throughout their cadet careers.
Commanding Officer's Introduction PO (SCC) S Keen became Commanding Officer in November 2022, but stepped up in October 2022 as the Executive Officer as the unit lacked leadership. Now, she has taken the unit forward and has been a shining light for our cadets and staff. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Aenean imperdiet purus in sapien semper congue. Our Unit Training Officer is hard at work creating Training Programmes for our cadets and staff to follow. These are to help develop our cadets personal skills and their ability to work as a team and some day as a leader. our training is inclusive to all cadets and staff, with many cadets and staff loving every second of being apart of our Canterbury Sea Cadet Family. The Sea Cadet Corps provide all learning materials. They even outsource some of our training and provide an opportunity for them to gain real-world qualifications with BTEC, RYA, DofE and CVQO. This is all made possible with little money spent by us or you! These are achieved by going up the rates, going away on courses and general study within the unit. Lots of our cadets have been going away. Ever so recently they went away on a multitraining weekend, where they develop skills such as first aid, seamanship, drill, catering, marine engineering and lots more. They have the chance to make life long friends and even have a weekend away from home. Unit Training
Achievements cadets and staff at Canterbury are always aiming to achieve to help them. Only recently we had an awards night where FIVE of our cadets gained promotions. Achievements are an amazing part of being a Sea Cadet. Last year, the unit was awarded "special recognition" for their part in the NHS Vaccination Centre. Cadets even get the chance to achieve a lot on a trip away off-shore, which we have had 4 cadets go away off-shore. See the images below on what our cadetsand staff have achieved:
