Wall Cladding System (Curtain Wall)

Objectives

• Provide an enclosure which will give necessary

protection to building structure.

• Make use of dry construction method.
• To impose minimum load onto the building

Types of wall cladding

1. METAL CLADDING

ZINC CLADDING GALVANISED STELL
CLADDING

ALUMINIUM BRONZE CLADDING

ADVANTAGES of metal cladding

• 1. Metal cladding is its low
maintenance

• 2. Metal does not absorb moisture
or promote the growth of mold or
fungus, both of which can destroy a
home’s framing and can pose health
hazards to the occupants

• 3. Metal is extremely unfriendly
toward insects

• 4. The aesthetic qualities of metal,
both aluminum as well as steel
siding, have come a long way in
recent years

• 5. Metal siding is its fire resistance

DISADVANTAGES of metal cladding

• 1. Aluminum is a soft metal and dents easily. Hail, a stray
baseball, even heavy rain or a power wash can dent
aluminum siding, especially the less-expensive lower gauge
sidings.

• 2. When one piece or one section of aluminum siding is
dented, it can be difficult to replace, matching the color of
the replacement pieces can also pose a real problem.

• 3. All metal sidings, even the most heavy-duty siding, are
subject to denting if struck with sufficient force. Sharp
objects can even pierce metal, especially aluminum, which
is softer than steel. Metal sidings are also subject to
scratching, which will reveal the underlying metal.
Aluminum will not rust, but steel siding that has been
scratched must be repainted immediately or it is subject to
rusting.

2. VINYL CLADDING

• Vinyl wall cladding is
cladding made from
PVC and other
substances

• It usually comes in the
form of boards that are
installed horizontally
to the external
framework of building

Vinyl Wall Cladding Building

Vinyl Wall Cladding Advantages :
•Free Painting Works
Profil dinding vinyl • Homogenous & various colour

finish
• High heat reflection
• U.V. Protection
• Environmentally friendly
• High fire resistance
• Electrical & thermal insulating
properties
• Applicable for interior & exterior
• Superior Acoustic properties
• Strong durability
• Strong chemical resistance
• Corrosion resistance
• Quick & easy installation
• Long lasting warannty
• Cut to length – less wastage
•Light weight material

3. FIBRE CEMENT
BOARD

• Fiber cement siding
is a building material
used to cover the
exterior of a building
in both commercial
and domestic
applications. Fiber
cement is a
composite material
made of sand,
cement and cellulose
fibers

Advantages

• 1. Stylish and Versatile
• 2. Durable and Low Maintenance
• 3. Thermal Efficiency

• Using lightweight, cement composite building
materials can deliver significant benefits on warm
days because of the materials’ inherent ability to
cool rapidly at night. This can give relief to
sleeping areas in the night.

Disadvantages

1. Installation of fiber cement board siding is costly.
Labor costs are higher because fiber cement requires
more manpower to deliver and install. Cost can be
two to three times higher than aluminum or vinyl
siding. If a homeowner is planning to sell within the
next five years, investing in fiber cement siding might
not be ideal.

2. Unlike aluminum or vinyl siding, fiber cement siding
has to be re-painted. While the paint job lasts longer
than usual, normally about fifteen years, the siding
does require painting after some time. Initially, the
siding can be installed painted.
