THEPOD After the interview with Ela Partoredjo from RMIT
Wellbeing department (inter. 2019), I knew that when
NGUYEN DINH QUANG S37408882 a person is under a lot of stress and anxiety, they
need to have some form of privacy and be with
someone they can trust. This is why I designed the
Pod, which not only provide a short term private
space between users but also provide a feeling of
being protected and respected.

The Pod is designed based on the circulation of
people in the Grass Field area and the overall
environment, which helped attract users and ensure
that users had been taken into consideration when
designing the space. To ensure a sense of safety
and welcomed without feeling restrained, I took the
inspiration from my self-actualization space.
Furthermore, I also took inspiration from the organic
curves of grass since I want to bring up the feeling
The Pod is “growing” from the site and covering
users.

Inspired by the self-actualization space, I utilised the
repetition of rounded form to support the ideology of
Safety and Comfort, furthermore, provided the
feeling The Pod is growing from the site. Moreover,
the repeated curves also created a clear circulation
that leads users to venture through the space. Taking
the overall environment into consideration, I want
The Pod to make from timber materials. Due to the
fact I want The Pod to be unified in materials and
also wood is a lightweight and can help trap sound
material. Overall, perfect for the idea of privacy.

In these trials, the problems I had are the color red of the real
building seem to “steal” the spotlight from the designed space.
Furthermore, the overuses of “circle” made these panels seem a
bit boring. Finally, The Pod works best with horizontal layout.
