Fatimah binti Hashim had worn several hats throughout her life. From a Malaysian freedom fighter to a minister in
the Malaysian cabinet, she had proven that women too can be great leaders and contribute to the growth of a nation.
For her outstanding contribution, she was honored with the Merdeka Award and granted the title “Tun,” which is

the highest honor given in Malaysia. As the founder and former president of the Malaysia's National Council of
Women's Organisations, she had empowered women nationwide. Upon her death on 9 January 2010, she was laid to

rest at Makam Pahlawan in the Masjid Negara compounds. She was the first woman leader laid to rest there.

- Her full name is Fatimah binti Hashim.
- Born on 25 December 1924 at Kampong Parit Keroma , Muar , Johor.
- Married with the late Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Yusof.
- Is a mother of six children , named Mariam , Mohamed Shah , Dato Professor Emeritus Dr Khalid

Abdul Kadir , Datuk Ali Abdul Kadir and Abdul Karim.
- She have 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

EDUCATION

- Early education at Kampong Parit Keroma`s Malay Boys` since there is no girl school at her
place at that time.

- She then continue her studies at Mersing Malay Girls` School.
- She also study for English at night school with teacher from Sekolah Convent Johor Bahru.
- She attend her teacher`s training every weekend for 2 years but cannot continue because of

sudden outbreak of the World War II.
- However she managed to teach students at Mersing Malay Girls` School by being a replacement

teacher.

undeniably an inspirational woman, not only for Malaysia, but for the entire world.

developing and sustaining a well-balanced society

- As the younger generation, we must follow her footsteps towards victory as Tun Fatimah had
demonstrated that we are never too small to make a difference.
