Instructions for participating in Breeze sessions from a distance:
To attend live conference sessions:
In order to participate in a Breeze session, you will need to use a PC or Mac running Internet Explorer or
Firefox with at least Flash installed and enabled. To hear the presenters, you will also need headphones or
speakers.
To verify your version of Flash and download the latest update:

To enter the session, follow these steps:
1. Open the session URL in your web browser. The URLs are:

2. In the Enter as guest box, click the Click to Enter button.
3. Enter your name and the name of your location. (I’ve
put IU but other options might be the two letter state
name (if in the US) or the country from where you are
connecting from.
4. You will join the ongoing Breeze session.
5. Participation will be via the Chat pod.

To participate in the “Open House” session (Friday, March 2, 8:00-9:00 PM, EST):
1. Open the following URL in your web browser:

2. In the Enter as guest box, click the Click to Enter button.
3. When prompted, enter your name and click Enter Room.
4. If you do not have a microphone, you can participate by using the Chat pod.
5. If you have a camera and/or a microphone, send a message via the Chat pod to the host requesting the
activation of your Camera and Voice pod. They will enable it.
Setting up Camera and Audio in Breeze:
The audio and video pod will already be active (upper-left corner) but you still have to set up your particular
hardware to take advantage of the feature.
Camera:
1. Make sure your camera is plugged in to your computer.
2. Click on Meeting then Select Camera…
3. A small box for Macromedia Flash Player Settings will appear in
the middle of the screen:
a. Click the drop-down
b. Select your particular camera
c. Click Close.

4. In your Camera and Voice pod, click the small Start Camera icon.
5. If you do not see that, click the small pod options button and select Slow Images…
Now click, Start Camera
NOTE: If you are using a digital cable connection or DSL from home, I would not recommend using live video
but rather a still-capture (image) of yourself.
Creating a Still Image of yourself:
1. Once camera is working, look directly at the camera and then click the Pause Camera button.
Don’t like the quality of that image? Click the button again (Start Camera), smile for the camera, click the
Pause Camera button again. Repeat until you’re happy with the image.

Audio Setup (PC):
1. Make sure headset (if you are using one) is properly connected.
a. Microphone plug to computer’s microphone input
b. Headset plug to computer’s headset output
2. Verify that audio settings allow for sound output and a working microphone.
a. Double-click the speaker in your system tray at the bottom-right of your screen.
The Volume Control will open.
b. Make sure your system volume MUTE and Wave MUTE are unchecked. (1)
(In my example, my computer also uses proprietary software called SW Synth. If you also have
something like that, make sure its MUTE is also unchecked.)
c. Click Options then select Properties.(2) The Properties panel will open.
d. By default, the Playback, radio button is selected. (1) Select Recording.

e. Below that, the devices or programs that can record on your computer appear. Make sure
Microphone is one of the options and that it is checked (2). Click OK.
f. A Recording Control panel will appear. Make sure Microphone appears and that the Select box
is checked. Also, place the audio slider bar roughly in the middle.
g. Close this panel. (Click the X in the upper-right.)
h. Close the Volume Control panel as well. (From above.)
Audio Setup (MAC):
1. Make sure a headset (if you are using one) is properly connected.
a. Microphone plug to computer’s microphone input
b. Headset plug to computer’s headset output
2. Verify audio settings allow for audio and microphone. (Skip to microphone portion if you hear sound.)
3. Open your machine’s System Preferences. Click the Sound icon speaker.

4. Click on Input (1). Make sure you see a Microphone – internal or external (2). Adjust the Input volume
slide to near the middle (3). Adjust your Output volume and make sure the Mute is unchecked (4).
Configure Breeze’s Audio
1. First, make sure the My Connection Speed in Breeze matches (most closely) what you have. This will
allow the Breeze server to optimize what you send and what you receive (audio, video, files, chat, etc.)
2. Next, select the Audio Setup Wizard….

3. Click Allow to let iu.edu use Flash to access your camera and microphone.
A message will appear (no image but it’s Step 0 of 5) which explains what is going to happen next and
why.
4. Step 1 of 5, Click Test to make sure your audio is working in Breeze (1). Click Next (2) if successful.
If not, go back to the Mac or PC section of this document and make sure your computer’s audio is
set correctly. Also, if you have a headset with built-in mute and/or volume control, make sure it
set correctly as well.
5. Step 2 of 5, select your microphone. On some machines, Breeze will not detect the device. Click in the
box and select your device. (SigmaTel C-Major Audio is the device in my machine. Yours will be
different.)

• If you have a headset, a camera with built-in microphone or a computer with built-in
microphone, you might see more than one device here. You will have to try one and see if it
works. If it doesn’t, try the other until things work.
6. Click Record (1). Read the script they have provided. Click the Stop button (2). Then click the Play
button (3) . If you hear yourself then your audio is working. Click Next.

7. Click Test silence (1). Wait…. Click Next (2).
8. When you reach Step 5 of 5, click Advanced Settings and choose the following settings:
• Use enhanced audio: checked
• Silence level: leave as is
• Acoustic echo cancellation mode: half-duplex
• Automatic gain control: unchecked
• Microphone volume: 50-60
• Audio quality: good
OK. Your audio should be working now. If not, you need to start from the beginning and verify the
settings again.
Activate Breeze Camera and Voice Pod:
Now that your audio is working, you still need to activate your pod’s audio/video feature.
1. Click the small camera button in the lower-left of the Camera and Voice pod.

All video and audio will start. Press the Talk button to disable the Hands-free feature.
2. When you want to talk, hold down the “talk” button while you are speaking. NOTE: Please do not press
the “Hands-Free” (padlock) button. Participants may take turns speaking using the “Talk” button.
3. Press the “square” button to stop sharing.
